So what if the Halo launch is huge? It doesn't mean that Halo is a good series, does it? No, because Halo is an average, very overrated series. I could understand if one review gave it a bloated score, but how can people be so deluded into thinking this is any better than games like Timesplitters 2, and Unreal Tournament? Agreed. Halo is a great series and people enjoy hating on it because it is popular.

exactly....the Halo series does one thing that niether of those franchises have accomplished yet. It offers not only a great single player campaign, but dives deeper by offering an exceptional multiplayer game as well. Cows claim Halo is overrated simply because they'll NEVER get it on their console of choice and Hermits claim Halo is overrated because it didn't come out on the PC first. Instead, they got a port of the original a few years after it's release and they just now got a port of Halo2 while we will be getting Halo3 in just 7 days.

I'd be pretty pissed if I knew I couldn't play a highly acclaimed series or if I had to wait a couple years before I got to enjoy it.

im not a halo fan and never played a halo game cuz i dont like FPS, but i dont say its not a good game. to be honest all those people cant be wrong about this game. maybe it really has something over other FPS games.

I do not like Halo. That having been said, you still sound like a twonk. It's easy to speak poorly of a storyline by dealing in vague generalizations. I'm relatively sure your favorite games could be attack in the same fashion, and it would be equally baseless.

actually i played halo 2 and i think it's a good game, but the storyline is still pretty average to bad.

It's not new, or innovative, or unusual or anything like that. Everything in Halo has been done many times before. What makes Halo so special isn't that they do it well... they do it VERY well. There are two types of great games. Games like Super Mario Bros., or Metroid Prime that do something new, that wows people. Then there is the other type. Games like Residant Evil, Banjo and Kazooie, and Halo, which don't really do anything new, but they take a tried and true formula, and the make an excellent job of it. That's what makes Halo so special.

What you're saying is wrong. The halo series has set a new standard for the action genre. Halo was the first game tjat made vehicles a big deal of gameplay where it felt natural to use a vehicle to transport from one location to another. Almost every big online shooter has had vehicles since then. Halo 2 was the first game with a regenerating health system. You no longer had to seek for the "health boxes" all of us were so familiar with. Halo has always had awesome graphics, good story and fun multiplayer. Oh, did you say it wasnt innovative?

Many games, such as Command & Conquer: Renagade, and 007 Nightfire used vehicles quite readily. Also, games like Call of Duty, and many action adventures used steadily regenerating health. The story was good, but generic, and the graphics were nothing impressive. Nonetheless, all the great things you listed are just things that have been done before, done better.

Nightfire, Renegade and CoD were all released long after halo CE :|.

That's not even remotely close to the summary of Halo. The only thing you got right is you're a super soldier, there are aliens, and there is a weapon (which isn't mass-destruction nor do the aliens have it).

My contributions to this thread will be how terrible Timesplitters 2 & Future Perfect are compared to the Halo games.

From my experiences with Timesplitters on Ps2. It has terrible movement, melee-ing, grenading, & vehicles. All it has going for it is quirky characters. Granted, I don't like the PS2's dual stick movement for FPS, it probably would've been better on the Xbox.

But to the Timesplitter fans who are angry that Halo is more popular even though it is 'generic' & 'overrated'. Sorry, Timesplitters just sucks entirely. I won't deny that I had some fun with it anyway.

I own a PS3 and I still find it seriously funny that the release of Halo 3 is 10X bigger event then the launching of the PS3 itself. Plus add the fact that the 360 has some hardware issues and is still outselling the PS3 2 to 1. Even with the release of some decent games and a price cut the PS3 is still failing to meet expectations. I just find it funny, although I hope it does not continue because I do want some good games for my PS3.

I like halo, but mostly just for the single player coop (thats why I didnt like halo2 very much) and My best friend who lives withing walking distance of my apartment is buying it on the midnight release, so no I wont be picking up any time soon. and If you play against me using the monkey I will concentrate on fragging you more than anyone, just because I can.

Trust me, i know that it has a story but its main focus is definatly on multiplayer. The campaign itself is very fun, just rather barebones (im not hating on timesplitters, my tsfp profile has a playtime of 150 hours with all platinum medals)

Halo is mosty an all around good shooter,that said its not anything special,certanly not to a degree they are hyping it.

Like i said its good an average and this is comming from a person that played most of the shooters released from 1994 till now,IMO Team Fortress 2 and Quake Wars have a much better multyplayer than Halo3 will.

Halo is mosty an all around good shooter,that said its not anything special,certanly not to a degree they are hyping it.

Like i said its good an average and this is comming from a person that played most of the shooters released from 1994 till now,IMO Team Fortress 2 and Quake Wars have a much better multyplayer than Halo3 will.

Agreed. Halo is getting old and is very over-rated.

Iwould agree that it's old but it isn't overrated -Millions of people still love it. + Bungie really do a good job with each one. I'll get it but I haven't been a massive fan since Halo1. Shotgun and pistol combo ftw.

If halo 3 has a massive launch it must mean it has a massive fan base, to get that you need a good game
