Whenever people talk about the greatest First-Person Shooters of all time, you get the obvious candidates:

Half-Life

Doom

Quake

Halo

Some people occasionally mention:

Deus Ex

System Shock 2

And some less-known ones. But there's one game that it always overlooked.

STAR WARS: Dark Forces. This was one of the first FPS games to use a linear storyline and cutscenes to advance a plot, and it introduced one of the best protagonists in Star Wars, or even one of the best in gaming. Of course, he, too, is overlooked.

Granted, he didn't have a lightsaber in this game. But Dark Forces was a very influential game that, according to Gamespot "Rises above the 'me-too' status and becomes a great game in its own right." And if nothing else, it paved the way for this:

Another game that never gets mentioned. And that led the way for this, which I particularly liked:

As for Jedi Outcast, I challenge you to find a game that has better swordfighting, aside from this:

This series is so often overlooked, and I fail to see why. >_>

I'm detecting a pattern here. Mainly that LucasArts games tend to get snubbed on this forum. >_>

Operation Flashpoint is rarely mentioned either.

Without OPF, the battlefield series and all its copies would never exist.

Well, it's hard to put Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy into the great FPS list seeing as it's also a TPS technically. Still, the combat from Academy and the story/dialogue/presentation from Outcast are fantastic.

The last 2 run fine on XP but you may need to set a compatability mode for the 1st 2.

Well, Lucas Arts gets looked over a lot of time because of the fact that they can publish games like no other. However, when they develop one themselves it's hit or miss.

I always mention Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight as one of the best FPS games ever, but the original Dark Forces was not that great. Neither were the later games.

I just finished playing Jedi Outcast, strangely enough, and it's an awesome game. I think at times it tries to hard to achieve some kind open endedness but other than that it's wicked, best saber fights bar none. Woot woot.

Heh, it was alright. I thought it was a pretty good Adventure game. Although, I was rather young at the time and had to take the cheap way out and had to use a strategy guide to get through some of it. :P

Gamespot gave a really bad score to "Obi-Wan." It was the first action game I played on Xbox and I really liked it. It was worth getting along with the system.

In fact, I'm now going to get Jedi Academy for PC.

Jedi Outcast remains as one of my favorite games of all time.  I just had so much fun with it.  I spent so much time just spawning mass amounts of stormtroopers and destroying them with the force.

I had Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast for the GC, fantastic game with a really cool story and a very difficult campaign for FPS standards. That game was long as well, I must have completed it in at least 40 hours if not more. Imo it was one of the most underlooked FPS games last gen and is worth a pick up for any die hard Star Wars fan or anyone who enjoys a consistant FPS game.

Oh s***! Wow, I completely forgot about this game! Ha, well, great game nonetheless

And as far as Dark Forces goes, if I remember correctly, this was the first FPS I ever played. But, being as young as I was, I didn't realize how great the game really was at the time. I just loved it because it was Star Wars :P. It would be fun to go back and play it again now.

Why is this in system wars?? Anyway, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight (I think that's the name) is definatly one of the greatest FPS games of all time. It was revolutionary when it came out. Why it's never mentioned alongside Half-Life and other great fps games, I'll never know...

The original two Dark Forces games were just plain awesome, regardless of the Star Wars subject material.  Cool weapons, objective-based missions, and great level design.

Man, LucasArts was one of the best PC developers around back then.  I don't know what happend to them...
