One game...to define a WHOLE genre

Yep I said it , one game , to define a whole  genre, Some say say its impossible,I think for some genres it can't be done, But I tried my best so TAKE A LOOK, IF you agree ,disagree, if Im missing a genre, or if you think Im all wrong. PLEASE LET ME KNOW, OR MAKE YOUR OWN LIST

Genres..............

Free Roam(new genre)- GTA, (hands down) (all)

FPS- Halo (you can kinda guess) (all)

Racing/SIM - Grand turismo (all) / moto GP (for bikes) (all)

Racing /arcade- Burnout (2 to revenge)

Sports- (EA sports company ), its impossible to say one sports game to define all , so I say the whole company, they make NHL,NBA live,Tiger woods, Maddenopoly (madden) ,rugby,FILA,MLB  ETC..

Fighting- Mortal combat

Wresling- Smackdown (all)

Street fight/Beat em up- Def JAM (2 only)

RPG- dare i say it........  Final Fantasy........NoT crono trigger???......OMG!!! ..( you probably guessed)

RTS- Command and conquer (all)

Army/War- Battle Field  (any)

Action/adventure - It would have been another GTA, but Gears Of War has recently " took the cake"

Fantasy/action /adventure- Well Zelda would have taken this spot, but I'll have to give it to FABLE...YEAH I SAID IT,( well, typed it ).... FABLE...sorry zelda fans, but keep in mind ...I never played TP,... so .....

Stealth/action-  MGS (all)

Horror- RE4 (only)

music/dance- Dance Dance Revolution(all)......DUHHHH .....you thought i was gonna say parappa the rapper?

movie based - The warriors

Family- the sims (all)..besides hot date ..not family but good

I may have added some, but I hate to leave any Genres out, so if I did, let me know, and one game you think should "define " it ....if you disagree, correct it , just don't tell me you disagree, Im here ,to hear opinions, not to be yell at for My opinions of which game is better at defining.... if you disagre, show me what you think should be there instead of acting all "pissy".

Umm, no offence, but EA makes some of the WORST sports games. People actually started online petitions because NBA 07 was of such low quality. 2K sports on the other hand...Hot_Potato

Here are the corrections u need to make for some of these Genres.

FPS-  Half Life/CS? Quake? Unreal? did u forget about these?

Racing/SIM - Need for Speed?

Fighting-  Street Fighter & King of Fighters, these games are kickass

Street fight/Beat em up-  God of War?

RPG- CronoTrigger and Final Fanstasy both have their ups and downs, so they should be put together

RTS- StarCraft + Broodwars

Action/adventure - DMC?

Fantasy/action /adventure-  LoZ:LttP lol, this is the best zelda game ever, it's the integral block that helped make OoT and TP so good.

Horror-  RE4 was fun and all, but it wasn't scarey enough, not like the previous REs.

movie based - This spot has to go to GOLDEN EYE

Family- the sims, ya i kinda agree, but Wii sports is catching up, lol. Even my grandmother plays it.

No, Elder Scrolls or Fallout which existed way before GTA, GTA popularised the genre, did not define or revolutionise it.

Heck no, Halo is nowhere near to the genre definer. Half Life, Quake, Doom, Unreal are all much bigger players in the history of the genre than Halo, which by comparison added very little.

Wolfenstein was the first one, but even though it was great, when it came to designing game mechanics, levels, and realism, it left a lot of potential, which Doom almost fully realized. Still Wolfenstein 3D should probably go there since it was the first one.

Wolfenstein 3D started the genre, but Doom realized all the potential the genre had in the first place.
