I haven't played all of those games and they're certainly not all my favourites, but they all seem like excellent examples of their genre to me.
FPS should really go to Half-Life.DireToadIt's got the platforming that many listed games are lacking.
I think the grand spectrum of survival horror is best defined by Siren. It has a little bit of everything.
This thread is 2 years old, I just noticed that.ArisShadowsDamn, what is with people reviving all these old threads?
I disagreed with most of them to be honest. Halo is not a game that defined it's genre, it just refined it. I would say something like Frequency would come before DDR, too.NAPK1NS
Yeah. Even if someone was just talking about console FPS, it should go to Goldeneye because before Goldeneye there really wasn't any FPS on consoles except for some Doom ports.
FPS should be Half-Life though and how is Gears of War a action-adventure =/.
If the damn thing wasn't so frustratingly inpenetrable I'd agree with you. Forbidden Siren 2 was the better of the two original Siren titles IMO. It kept everything that made the original Siren so great while still making itself accessible. I'd like to see it get the Blood Curse treatment, that'd be great.I think the grand spectrum of survival horror is best defined by Siren. It has a little bit of everything.

I disagree with that. I don't think the originator is the game that defines the whole genre Especially when the quality is like night and day :| Halo today obliterates Goldeneye out of the water. A ton of freakin games do in the FPS genre. Same with Doom or Wolfenstein if we really want to talk about the games that put the genre on the map. While being the original innovator is definantly important and impressive, i don't think that makes the game "Define the entire genre" The genre has had improvements, old ideas become refined to a more improved streamlined idea that works better in some cases. The games that push a genre forward, or refine a genre are just as worthy of the defined a genre. Where as Goldeneye didn't push the genre forward(sure for consoles, but it was stuff that was allready being done in the genre on the PC).Please Log In to post.
