They both look drab and colorless. Why is it that the two most anticipated PS3 titles are in greyscale. They both have amazing graphics, but hardly any color. I am still looking forward to both games, but this worries me for the future.

I saw a thread where a guy asked "If there was a way you could shoot yourself in KZ2 to see some color."

War is not colorful. MGS4 also has other areas. Everyone needs to stop nitpicking.

Both games are aiming for realism, if you want lots of colour go play uncharted or barbie fashion show.

So what. MGS4 isn't that drab, don't forget that it's the kind of game like Resi 4 where up until a few weeks before release we'd only seen footage of like 1 segment of the game, right up until I bought Resi 4 I didn't even know there was the second Island, it's the same with this, so it will get less drab. And I'll say what I said in another thread, KZ2 is a war game, the colours IMO match up with the drabness and grimeyness of war, it suits it I think.

I suppose that Uncharted, Ratchet, Little Big Planet, and Motorstorm 2 must be the most amazing godsends on the planet for you then.

Would you please stop whining about this? If you're SERIOUSLY trying to argue this, just stop. Stop. There is no purpose to it.

Play the MGO Beta, 1. Then realize that the color in KZ2 is DIRECTLY tied to the lighting. If there is no lighting, which is created and destroyed in real time, then there is no light. When there is no light, there is no color. Want proof? Turn out the lights. See any color? Get me here?

They turned off the lights, so to speak, for the sake of atmosphere. You've seen like maybe 10 preview screens. Would you quit jumping the gun and making this totally bunk argument now PLEASE.

It will suck. In case you've never realized, most reviewers score games entirely based off of the number of colors in the color pallette. For example, GTA IV got a 10 because it has 10 colors in the color pallette.

I think its funny when people say Killzone 2 and MGS4 wanna go for realism because of war or whatever. I don't know about you but even in war there's color, from the different color of fatigues, to the blue skies and green oceans, to radiant plant life, to enemies wearing bright clothing, and the different color of bricks buildings are built with, to the obstacles like cars you can hide behind to take cover with, realism is color.

It only has one area because I've only SEEN one area. Seeing is believing.

You got me?

Killzone 2 only has one environment because only one environment has been shown. If they had more than one environment wouldnt they have shown it by now?

Well, I don't think MGS4 is drab but keeps a consistent theme in the same level. For example, the Desert village MP level in MGO has a rather different look to Groznyj Grad and a rather different look to Blood Bath (Blood Bath seems to be a half way point between desert town and Groznyj Grad in terms of colour scheme)

And War isn't colorful, I believe Killzone 2 has captured that right. It does use a fair amount of different colours, but it's not pastel colours like Halo 3. Also, go into any industrial city like up north and try to find a fair amount of colour)

I like them because they're both consistent.

I dislike GeoW's graphics for two main reasons:

Alot of the things look 'plasticky' to find a word.

Locusts = Bad enemies, I honestly prefer the Helghast over them in terms of design.

Extremely small areas, from what we've seen MGS4 is a full battlefield and Killzone 2 has a rather wide area.

Steroid muscle men design = not good.

Gears of War 2 should change this though! Won't change my mind on the Locust or COG art design, I honestly believe the best character models were the stranded. Loving the look on that new spiritual style COG though, going to play him in co-op :)

Both MGS4 and Killzone 2 are trying as acurately as they can to depict a real warzone. Explosions everywhere, bullets whizzing by, debris scattered along the beach etc. Not all that colorful. It's a different kind of artstyle, and if you ask me, both games are beautiful.

Well i played the Beta, and the colors are pretty well not colorful but it doesent bother me beacause thats how real wars are!

The game is going to be awsome and KZ2 looks great aswell. "Checks calendar for June 12th" (makes sad face)

Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto 4, CoD4 and many more are all pretty washed out and drab...

They seemed to have sold well and earned critical praise. I fail to grasp your point.

Go up to the industrial areas of Manchester and say that has more colours than Killzone 2. You do not live in an industrial area, Killzone 2 is trying to represent an industrial areas as an entire world. And the skies tend to be cloudy and bright sometimes in the latest HD video so how does that relate? There are no oceans nearby or plant life as this is an industrial place.

When I turn the lights off, I can't see anying you must have really good eyes. Moreover, in low light I can still see color. Weird maybe we see in different spectrums or something. Ultraviloet maybe.

Yes but the real world isn't an alien planet where you fight alines though is it. Or a world in which full body stealth camoflauge and ninja robots exist either.

People need to realise these games are set in fake environments and that the Helghast planet is supposed to be as it is. All dull and grey, and why are people even moaning, we've seen like 2 minutes of gameplay, doesn't mean the whole game will be set in that one place does it...

Okay, in case you don't realize, you see using two different parts of your eyes, two different receptors, called cones and rods. Cones see in color and detect light, and rods do not detect color. You use Cones in daytime (light) and rods at night (dark).

Let your eyes adjust to the dark and you will see in mostly black and white. The mostly part is because there's always light.

And you have obviously never been deployed in a modern war zone. There are no green oceans or radiant plant life in the desert. Don't be such a tool. The color scale has to be realistic to the setting. And in these two games, what we've seen fits perfectly.

The North Pole. Colors = Blue and White.... wow. Broad Spectrum there.

Rainforest... Greens and Browns. Is that suprising?

When you say life has color, it equally is monotone or very shade preferential. Not everything looks like Times Square or Las Vegas.

EXACTLY! That's a realistic depiction of war! Maybe now these kids will quit whining. Both games look awesome. They sport more realistic color tones versus arcade color tones. I prefer realism over arcadey... but there's room for both, so get over it.

It will suck. In case you've never realized, most reviewers score games entirely based off of the number of colors in the color pallette. For example, GTA IV got a 10 because it has 10 colors in the color pallette.

So the first gears of war was over rated then because it was dark just like part 2, but I guess you didnt think b4 you open your mouth.

Just finally read the first post, one:

The screenshots for MGS4 are showing more...green/orange scale.

Killzone 2 is all right for it's setting but I won't deny the dominance of Grey. The same way I won't deny the dominance of green in Uncharted.

VladTheImpaler

The world is not a box of crayons. People want reality in their games and then cry when not everything looks like the Vegas strip.

Who cares what the damn colour is? Seriously. As a GAMER your concern should be whether or not the game is any good and fun to play. This whining about palette choice is a sign of how many casuals and posers there are on SW pretending to be real gamers.

War isn't fun..

MGS 4 ain't supposed too tell a light story like Halo or something, its going too be a dark one with some realism, bright colours would ruin the mood.

For killzone 2.. I guess they just wanted it too look darker.. doubt any story elements motivates the look.

In the middle east (MGS4), you can't walk three feet without bumping in a lush jungle or an ocean. In Helgan (KZ2) I fully expected an hellish planet that gave birth to the mask wearing, red eyed Hellgast, to have a nice view of a garden with rainbow colored buildings and blue horizon. And everyone knows that there's nothing better to wear in battle than pink clothes, so the enemies can't see you.

Exactly. The developers could easily use many bright and luscious colors but that is not their vision. What is their vision is to use colors to depict war so maybe the dark greys maybe represent death, destruction and havoc to the developers.

I really don't see what there is to argue about anyways. When you're able to see the sun in KZ2, at least in the trailers, it seems to be fairly yellowish, MGS4 takes place in a jungle I hear, and Uncharted, Ratchet, and GTA4 show that the PS3 is more than capable of producing amazing colors. Like I said, I don't see what there is to argue about.

That seems to be the norm with a number of shooters this gen, I don't buy the 'realism' for a second. In the real world, colorexists.DementedDragon

Color is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, yellow, blue, black, etc. Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution of light energy versus wavelength) interacting in the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. Color categories and physical specifications of color are also associated with objects, materials, light sources, etc., based on their physical properties such as light absorption, reflection, or emission spectra.

so these are war games and people always say color effects mood of people why would you want a barbie world inspired game with pretty pinks and reds and purple in a war game.

if you want that play halo
