One of the reasons the 360 won't win the console war...

This thread's not meant to offend although I'm sure it will because apparently saying a console probably won't the console war in SW is equivalent to getting kicked in the balls.

Anyhoo, the following list is a list of games that have sold over 1 million for the 360. The titles in bold are shooters. The titles underlined are action or RPG games with shooter elements. You see where I'm going with this? Yeah, you do, and so does everyone else, so don't think you're clever:

From a casual perspective and I really stress that, the 360 is still a console for shooters. The games that get the most attention from the gaming community are shooters, as are the games that get the most attention from the media, hence the reason why a lot of casuals still think it's a console for shooters. And since casuals are the biggest consumers, this is one of the reasons I(me, personally, in my opinion) think that the 360 won't win the console war.

MS doesn't promote its variety very well simply because you guys don't buy them. People complain that the industry is lacking innovation... which is funny since all you do is buy very similar games, so why would the devs need to innovate?

The Wii and PS3 million sellers are more varied, and I think PS3 is also having the same problem now that the 360 is having with casuals also seeing the console as a shooter console primarily, hence one reason for it being in 3rd place. I think having established franchises like GT and FF will push it ahead quickly, but we'll see.

Anyway, just thought I might throw this out there to discuss if any of the points I brought up are interesting to anyone here. What do you guys think?

Where have you been? The war is over, the Wii cannot be caught on sales and the PC cannot be caught with the number of AAE and AAAE exclusive games.

The 360 and ps3 are both fighting for 3rd place, my feeling is that PS3 will get that leaving the 360 forth.

It's not my logic. I know that Mass Effect is not a shooter. I know that GTAIV isn't one. The OP is a casual's perspective, and since they make up the biggest market, that's why I think the 360 won't win, because it's being portrayed as a shooter console just like the Xbox was. On topic though i see what you mean, the 360 is mostly shooters. But I see myself as a casual gamer and I like shooters.

most of us here are casual gamers. I play games like cod4 online and oblivion, but unless you are playig for 7 hours a day or something you are a casualy gamer.

But yes the ps3 does cater to the casuals more, which in the end is the bigger market.

Though being a PS3 fan, i believe there is no war going on, there are 3 consoles which luckily all offer quality games (being exlusives or multi-plats)....

In the end the winner is always determined by the total sales, and right now everyone knows which console is selling most... Personally I am interested not if PS3 will outsell Xbox360 or reach Wii, as long as its successful and reaches a good mark where Sony is satisfied and pushes them to keep developing consoles i am happy with that even if it means Wii has double or triple the install base of PS3...

What i am interested is that games keep coming to PS3, and exclusives are of high quality, while PSN keeps evolving to offer a better service... afterall i didnt buy PS3 to help Sony win the 'console war' but because i love gaming..

When does GTA IV, Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2, Rockband, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Super mario Galaxy, MarioKart, Come out on PC? I say these because these are games that interest me and if I can get them all on PC I am missing something.

Such as Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata

Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, etc

Eternal SOnota, Too Human, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, etc

The reason it doesn't do well with the hardcore gaming crowd in Japan is not because its all shooters. Its just too western. To many western oriented games. The RPGs are all WRPGs, and the JRPGs are too few and not big.

The hardware is just failure that has nothing to do with the genre.

If we are talking casuals, then yeah i can see that.

But there is an american trend i can argue from what my own experience. They see the 360 as this online gaming system, they see it as a system for good shooters(COD 4 being the new fad and not Halo 3 actually), and the big multiplats such as GTA 4, ROck Band, etc.

I agree that in the longrun the PS3 will win out Japan and Europe. But i dont see any reason it can win North AMerica. MGS 4 will give PS3 a spark for the summer, but what about later on in the year.

THe 360s biggest problems- Hardware isn't reliable, Its a western oriented console(no appeal to Japan for the most part), its library is too similar to that of a PC(AUTOMATIC LOSS in Europe).

I understand the casuals make up most of the market, but right now they are eating up the Wii. The current trend in sales is mostly hardcore gamers jumping on board to the next gen consoles. I think maybe next year we start seeing the casuals jump in some more, but right now it is strictly a hardcore gamer business with the PS3 and 360.jg4xchamp

Yeah, that's true. One of my reasons for wanting a 360 is Banjo 3, but I really doubt casuals even know that Banjo is coming to the 360. And it's MS' fault (and partly the gamers themselves for not buying a wide variety of titles) because a lot of the non-shooter games like Viva Pinata or LO or Eternal Sonata just get buried under the amount of shooters and nobody even knows they exist.

360 is significantly better than the Xbox in terms of variety but casuals don't know that, and that's one of the major reasons it isn't getting a lot of support, and never will. I also agree with your other reasons though, although I don't think the hardware problems are having a major effect.

How much more convincing do you need? The Wii is already a guarenteed success. The other consoles will never catch up in sales. Its theoretically impossible as the Wii demographic is so many times larger then either the PS3 or the 360's.

Its like Microsoft and Sony are trying to sell to 10 customers each while Nintendo has a pool of 100. Its just too much easier for them to sell more.

How much more convincing do you need? The Wii is already a guarenteed success. The other consoles will never catch up in sales. Its theoretically impossible as the Wii demographic is so many times larger then either the PS3 or the 360's.

I don't know, I guess I just think that a lot can happen in the coming years... since the gen has gone so slowly and MS/Sony haven't really done much yet.

It's also possible that the Wii could get less attention as the PS3/360 get more when bigger franchises release. It's definitely likely that the Wii will win, I just don't like calling it a definite so soon I suppose.

I enjoy flames, lol... guess that's a bit weird but some of them are pretty good. I'm loving GTAIV! I think I'm nearly finished the story although I'm not sure. On the 3rd island now, it is awesome.

How much more convincing do you need? The Wii is already a guarenteed success. The other consoles will never catch up in sales. Its theoretically impossible as the Wii demographic is so many times larger then either the PS3 or the 360's.

Its like Microsoft and Sony are trying to sell to 10 customers each while Nintendo has a pool of 100. Its just too much easier for them to sell more.

Not to mention that they haven't even released new colors yet :?

I don't know, I guess I just think that a lot can happen in the coming years... since the gen has gone so slowly and MS/Sony haven't really done much yet.

It's also possible that the Wii could get less attention as the PS3/360 get more when bigger franchises release. It's definitely likely that the Wii will win, I just don't like calling it a definite so soon I suppose.

I enjoy flames, lol... guess that's a bit weird but some of them are pretty good. I'm loving GTAIV! I think I'm nearly finished the story although I'm not sure. On the 3rd island now, it is awesome.

My point still stands sorry. I will state it more clearly for you though! The MAJORITY of Wii sales is made up of people who never purchased a console or even cared about gaming 2 years ago. I think Nintendo is brilliant but enough nonsense from actual gamers in here that know better.
