I mean, more and more games get online multiplayer but they dont get offline multi. That's stupid. You can play with your friends when they aren't there but you can't when they're there. Nothing's better than a good ol' 4 player split-screen deathmatch, and it becomes harder to find every year.

I like offline multiplayer better.Nothing beats having a few friends over, turning on the console (the Wii,in my case.:P),and enjoying a few good hours of playing video games with them,in the same room. There is really too much concentration of online play,in my opinion.

EDIT: But I prefer an excellent single player,though....

It is because of the 360. It is the only true online console to have. It has a community whether you like it or not that can't be match by any other console.

ps. PC is not included because it has a more dedicated community then consoles.

The reason why online is beating out offline multiplayer is because most people tend to be too busy to come over nowadays. It's simply more convenient to just get into an online than getting people to come over your house and play.

any multiplayer game without online is garbage IMO

thats why virtua fighter 5 is trash everyone wanted to play it online but sega was to lazy to implement it.

offline is garbage because its too inconvieniant i mean lets be real are you going to call your friends up EVERYTIME you want to play multiplayer. the answer is NO

meanwhile with ONLINE i dont endure the hassle of calling people i just plug it in and play.

However, my fear isn't of in person MP getting the back burner, but more the SP portion of games getting less and less attention.

true hmm should i plug in my internet and play online gears of war or invite 7 friends over to play over system link and remind them to bring their 360s lets face it if you dont have 10 brothers and sisters your age that live with you your'e not gonna play offline and if you are an adult it would be even harder to invite people over. ps. I hate sharing the screen with 3 other people, I want the whole thing to myself

offline multi is garbage? so are you admitting you have no friends or something
its VERY vital to me... ask anyone whats more fun.. playing strangers online or playing w/ your friends
sure online people are more skilled.. but for games like CO OP... wouldnt you rather play with friends
heck.. i live with my girlfriend.. offline is hardly garbage to me... onlines great for fighting skilled people i agree, but its still not as fun as playing with my REAL friends...

i played games online for a large majority of the psx-ps2 days... it oddly enough took me a GC to get me back into console gaming.. but nothing compares to the experience of an epic single player game...
and online communities for small tight knit games are even more amazing.. you can make a name for yourself if you're good enough in the community
but it really doesnt compare... online is for competition.. and offline gaming is for friends.. and truly epic games...

Agreed. The one exception is when you take turns at a game that works that way (platformers ftw!). Just recently I was doing that with resident evil 4, that game was a complete blast to play with 4 or 5 other people :). First time the chainsaw guy came out.... ahh the memories :D

I don't call my friends over when I want to play an offline multiplayer. When I play offline multi it's when my friends are over and we're drinking and having fun. That in my opinion is way better than online multiplayer.

offline multiplayer is vital

it sucks when u have a bunch of freinds over, and everybody wants to play gears. but you have to settle taking turns at two player coop because offline 4-player deathmatch is not an option.

more games these days need the 4-player split-screen option. its so much more fun that way.

I agree with this too. The more I think about it, the more I hope MP3's delay isn't to add any online MP but to better the single player experience (better level designs, more levels, bigger enemies, better graphics, more power-ups, etc.)

For games like Halo or SSB I would appreciate online play more. I played so many hours of offline MP in SSBM it isn't even funny, but when you're playing with the same two or three guys it gets a bit old and the attacks become predictable.

Unless you have a huge TV that is, I don't like having my small Tv split in 4 parts. Offline splitscreen can be fun, if you can still see everything clearly.

Yeah, that can happen. Hasn't really for me though. With games like Timesplitters: Future Perfect last gen I only played the game offline with the same friend pretty much all the time but since we were kind of even it was extremely fun.

I think devs are just having a hard time trying to find a balance between offline and online play, but IMO are concentrating more on online now than ever before, because it provides greater replay value than playing the same single player over and over again.

I agree completely. nothing was greater than having a group of 4 guys over to play Goldeneye or Halo 1(or a 2v2 game of Hockey). Online is a nice addition but offline multiplayer is still the ultimate playing experience.

On the same tv ? I remember playing 2x2 on the same tv... which really sucks. Because first, too small. Second, because you can actually see where people are just looking at their screen.

I don't really know technically speaking, but I bet it's the same case as MotorStorm. (Devs said it can't handle splitscreen)
