@mems_1224: Skyrims writing blows outside certain Daedric quests and Dawnguard.
Fallout 3's as well and Fallout 4's, outside Far Harbor and certain companions.

@jg4xchamp: Bioware's best character writer, Patrick Weekes...who wrote Tali, Mordin, Cole, Solas, (I think Thane, not sure) and Legion is now the Dragon Age lead writer, and say what you want about Mac Walters, who now is MEA's creative director, but he is a far better character writer than Drew Karpyshyn.
DAI is a huge example of a well written game that is poorly directed.

I own that game, I just never got around to it. I'm just saying from what I've played, from Baldur's Gate to Mass Effect 3, I think while you can certainly make an argument that Avellone's had stories with far more interesting themes, he has a tendency to write robotic. Where as Bioware in their formulaic nature, still had time to make their characters first and foremost interesting and human.
Including characters people don't like, like Ashley.

I think Drew Karpyshyn writes robotic as well many times.
He wrote Tali in ME1, who was basically a talking codex entry about Quarians and wrote Liara as well. They are much improved characters with different writers.
I might be one of the few people in existence, but I really enjoyed Far Cry 3's story. Had the ending only been the "bad" one, without the choice, it would have ended on a much better note. That choice defied the fact that Jason was on a descending slope towards insanity/psychopathy, and he literally had no hope for escape from. The way in which Vaas and Citra got into his head suggested to me that he should have only had one "choice" in the end, to give into the monster within.
