Anyway, how was it a "complete *** of a game" ? gingerdivid

They never pulled the "this is a sim card" with GRID, they merely wanted to establish a prominent position in the genre by appealing to both crowds (Codemasters have had limited success with the Race Driver series in the US).

Are those Ingame?

If so W:oW, The Grass and Shrubbery looks flawless, almost like artwork.

I believe they're using Dirt/Grid engine for this one.

Sure looks like it, doesns't it?

But they are probably using a variation of it in order to make an FPS from the engine.

[QUOTE="bionicle_lover"]i didnt do pc gaming until after this game was probably dead so i went with battlefield 2 instead. but i've heard this game is so realistic that its crazy hard... and i thought battlefield 2 took time to get into to be decent. i want to get this day one so i have a chance :P i tried day of defeat source after giving up years ago, and i got owned cause everybody who was playing it apparently knew exactly where everything was and where to camp wit those pesky machine guns and snipers :Pskrat_01
OFP is still very much alive.......

So true, the mods keep pouring in.

Integrating arcade elements and sim elements dosen't make a game inherently bad. So using my quote there hasn't answered my question.

Looking at it's critical acclaim and reflecting on my experience with the game, it seems that they've successfully merged these two together, with great damage modelling with arcade like speed and sensitive handling. I'm not being provocative, I'm just interested in why you think that it's "ass". I think personal enjoyment from Grid depends on what you expect from it, as it's quite a departure from previous installments in the Race Driver series, but yet I think it's a great game on it's own merits.

Yes it has. The game is complete ass the same way Invisible War was. Or the way people fear Fallout 3 will be. Or OFP2. For me personally it's complete ass because it has the most freakish, bizarre handling ever devised in the history of mankind. I also reckon it utterly fails at emulating racing or whatever PR BS they were spouting.

I think they took a series that was traditionally simmy (Race Driver) and tossed in a lot of arcade elements. It really seems like they built a great game around it, but the driving itself just felt so incredibly off in the demo that I couldn't get into it or handle it. :(

I'm really hoping that they keep in the realism. Playing through OFP a couple days ago, the game is still the most punishing shooter I've ever played. And I love it.

Initially it feels like you're driving on ice, even the heaviest cars feel light, as if they were just pink wafers rather than a 2 tonne muscle cars. GRID's feel is a little off putting initially, but I think it takes time to warm to it, as gradually you begin to appreciate the sensitivity of the handling and the steep challenge. Then you'll notice the incredible A.I and how handy the flashback feature is. However, it's still clearly a departure from the previous installments in the Race Driver franchise, it also has a relatively light offering of cars and tracks. ]

Although it still stands as one of the best white knuckle race games I've played, which is refreshing after playing Mario Kart Wii.
