I want to know what happened to Super Mario 64, why did it mysteriously disappear from the list? It seems like it only has 19 reviews counting towards it.. yet not too long ago i remember it being up there, did GR decide to not count one of those review sources!? BAH an injustice! this game deserves its recognition more then, say the ps2 port of resi 4(ya, good game.. but both up there on the top 10 over Mario 64?!).
Anyways..
yes, as was stated Twilight Princess was on the top. In fact, it held #1 for a short while before dropping to #2 if i remember correctly. Then it slowly dropped to 3 and so on before eventually settling in at 24 or something, the highest ranked game this gen before bioshock came out.
As for OB gamerankings success. I'm not sure i particularly care for it. It's an excellent collection of games, but it's just that.. a collection of games. Each game is quite good, and given that its 59.99, it makes each games short length and flaws less noticable.. given that the collectionasa whole has a decent amount of hours in it. but still, the impact and awe alot of the other games on the top 10 brought for their time is something else. Episode 2 is good, but its just more of the same; as for hl2 and ep 1, we'ev seen them both before(in hl2's case multiple times).. as for TF2, it'sexactly TFC with some substance removed, a pretty art style, and better balancing..but it lacks diversity and suffers from terrible lag issues. Then there is portal, a truelly excellent game and one of the reasons i only said that i don't particularlycare for its place in the top 10, rather then outright saying i find it ridiculous. Portal is quite good, and unique. It'sgot some great humour and interesting challenges, but itscriminally short. Overall,I harboured the same feelings towards bioshock, and was glad to see it drop off.. but i honestly believe, despite how fun and amazing it is, that its not top 10 worthy.
I'd like to think mario galaxy will be good enough that it deserves a place in the top 10.
