Great console with lots of awesome games! Unfortunatly very underhyped.

November 15th 2001 was the release of the first Xbox game console and the begining of the end for Sony???Tony-BaxterEh, no. It was more the beginning of the end for the original xbox.

It's a shame it died right after it's 3rd birthday. :(
I bought two of those suckers and two copies of HALO 2...I had no idea a year later it would be long dead and the 360 would already be out.

It's good to know that after death, it still can age.
You can say it's the 9th anniversary, or the 6th anniversary since death in a few months I guess. but no way "turns 9 years".

i bought a crystal xbox and halo 2 cause it was wow this game is awesome and online on a console was a totally new thing for me especially.A year later support dropped off and MS had the 360 on show.
Tbh can you imagine if halo 2 were a launch title for the 360, highly polished perfect for getting the 360 kicked off for being another PS2.Forza 1 could have been the same.
I missed the party yesterday, so happy belated born day XBOX :). You were the biggest baby ever born, powerful too! You've slimmed down as you've gown though. And like Michael Jackson, changed pigments. Did you have surgery too? :P (it's OK that he walked towards you, and subsequently performed a 360 and "walked" away!). But, now you're black again :o!
And the world just keeps on turning.....
I kid I kid, it was a great system and if it wasn't for it console online gaming probably wouldn't have come as far as it has. On the same note maybe console local multiplay may not have died as much.... Hard to say but worth considering.

Why are we celebrating the original Xbox? It's Dead. Dead stuff don't get birthdays.ZippySlappy
The NES got a birthday.

I still play my original launch xbox. I was 1st in line at my local walmart after standing there for 9hrs..:)..matter of fact, I just bought a new controller...and fixed 2 of my other controllers...A classic system that will go down in history as one of the best.
what a shocker, people that are more into brands than games don't like the og xbox.
great system, i had a blast with so many games on that thing.
ghost recon 16 player co-op, rainbow 6, splinter cell, rallisport challenge 2, playing games in 1080i, amazing online service, jade empire, riddick, odd world, crimson skies, jet set radio, steel battalion, mechassault, ninja gaiden, elder scrolls, otagi, project gotham, deus ex, halo, panzer dragoon...
go ahead and talk some more smack about the xbox and show all of SW that you have no clue what you are talking about. go on, it's amusing to me.
Oh sorry, original Xbox is DEAD. I don't say happy birthday to the deads and stop counting their age, as they are dead.
And happy birthday to your dead grand-grand mother. She must be over 100 years old now!
Why would people that are into games like the xbox? Xbox's total library was half the size of PS2s, and comparing exclusives is even more one-sided.what a shocker, people that are more into brands than games don't like the og xbox.

TC - the longer this goes on, the more I'm convinced you should have posted in Legacy Platforms instead of System Wars. Though to go back to your original post - Xbox was not the "beginning of the end for Sony" it was a rebirth of a 3rd competitive company in the video gaming market. It took the place of the Sega Dreamcast but neither Xbox nor Xbox 360 have completely ended anything for Sony or PlayStation.
For all the "we don't celebrate the birthday of dead things" - why did they make the point of John Lennon's 70th birthday when he's been gone for 30 years?
If ANNIVERSARY fits more than birthday, then keep that word in mind and use it in place of the term in this topic. The fact is that MY personal original Xbox has a date of November 17th 2001 - it still works, therefore it is still a "living" system - I can still play it and it's 9 years old. My GameCube is also going to be 9 years old, I still play it, it still works. My NES was bought around March of 1988 and still works, therefore it is almost 23 years old. Anniversaries or not these are the actual ages of the systems I have.

Congratulations, you're #52 on the list of people who said the exact same unwitty response.
On topic, great console. Didn't sell too well overall but was really the dominant brand where I lived, EVERYONE had an Xbox. Unfortunately everyone got a 360 and I got a PS3, so now I have few people to game with :P

Well lets come up with a list out of the 1000 PS2 titles that are worth playing. I love my PS2 and still have my original launch PS2, but showing disrespect to the Xbox only shows how little you know about it. It was 10x the console out of the 3 major consoles at the time. Built in hdd,4 controller hookup, awesome online, built like a tank, better controller.."yes even the duke", HALO, plus the Splinter Cell series was started on this machine AND better on the xbox.

it's because i'm glad you didn't like it.
it pleases me a little that you see no value in it.
seriously it does, if you didn't get to play some good games because you limited yourself it is imo is a good thing.
is that strange? yeah i think it probably is but what could be more fitting in sw than to see someone get less of a good thing because they are limited by their biases.

You need to make that "thousand" into "thousands", and if you can't come up with a list of games worth playing out of it, then apparently you are the one who cares more about brand-loyalty than games. Built-in hdd? Not really an advantage last gen. The days of downloadable content and patches for consoles didn't really start till this gen, and better controller? That's very debatable... that thing was the size of a basketball. If it was so much better, why'd they shrink it down and make it more like the PS controller, while the PS controlelr has stayed pretty much the same for 3 generations? Why would people that are into games like the xbox? Which good games did I not get to play by not having an xbox? Can you make me a list of all the great xbox exclusives?Yeah and most of the kids who play the xbox are just turning 9 aswell... I saw a post a few days ago stating "I grew up with the 360 controller" Thats hilarious!!!JohnF111

Unfortunately, I don't own an xbox, nor can I buy one anymore, since it was discontinued 6 years ago, and I'm certainly not going to buy a $300 360 to play some last gen games.[QUOTE="ianuilliam"]

I already posted a picture of the quote. his memory didn't serve him too well, because he took it out of context then, and he still has it out of context.
