Software not so much. But they did advance the online gaming and online marketplace for consoles. Without the X-box and Live, I don't think that either Sony or Nintendo would have pushed their online services nearly as hard as they did.

Only with XBL. The rest is just stuff that MS steals from others, and then pays the settlement in court. Just looking at all the troubles MS has in Europe due to software infringments gives you the idea.

Also, their current 1st party games are not completely Original. Was it not for its compelling Story, LO would be just an old school RPG. BD was mediocre compared to more recent RPGs (and I hate Toriyamas lack of creativity in his designs) but it was playable, specially with the lack of next gen JRPGs at the time.

Im holding my judgement until I can play a non-demo version of Banjo, but so far its not good.

MS best in games comes from 2nd and 3rd studios, Gears, Halo, Tales, Ace, etc.

Thats not originality, that is great streamlining and efficiency but none of that is original. They werent the first to do online gaming and they don't do it best. I do agree they helped push the quality of online console gaming.

Well if you look at it like that, then there's not much original out there at all. Sony's never done anything original. Outside of software, Nintendo hasn't done anything original either. I think you have to sometimes loosen up a definition of originality sometimes, or at least place it within context.

MS is no originality and never will. They thrive on taking ideas that already work for other companies, trimming down the quality and then taking the market over through marketing. Good thing that gamers are smarter than the general public or they would of took over video games by now.

Does it really matter? I think originality is overrated, Odama original game but wasn't very good Halo3 more of the same but great, not say originality is bad but it shouldn't take the place of quality

See this is where biased fanboy opinions ruins good discussion, going by your logic the only original one here is Nintendo cause they did a console first, Sony and Microsoft are just copying.

They pushed Live, online is the biggest thing this gen IMHO, not HD at all. It's all about exclusive downloadalbe content, streaming movies, downloading movies, expansion packs, full games to download, demos all over, microtransactions. It's all about online this gen and it wouldn't be without Microsoft pushing Live.

I think they've been very creative and very original console wise, reality is all 3 seem rather creative and it's good for all of us.
