But, what people have been saying is that why didnt you just install it from the disk? And no, dont give me angry remarks about your "experience" just tell us, Why? kris9031998Because I think he tried, and Steam woudn't allow him. I had the same issue on launch.
I had to use a workaround to install the game from the disk.

[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"] are you blind or just plainly stupid? the game installed but its not running because of busy servers. How is this my fault?

You waited 4-5 hours downloading it from Steam, instead of installing it from the disk, but ok yea, i'm the stupid one.

Okay then. But if theres a workaround, why didnt he just look it up? :?
I ran into that problem as well. SKyrim wouldn't install off the disk that POS. Thankfully, there was a work around found here that allowed me to install the game off the disk. No service is perfect, Mozel. Stevo_the_gamerReading your post got me really excited, I actually, just for a second believed that you found the solution to my problems... And then I was linked to the same guide that I was linked to on page 1, which didn't help me at all because it still refuses to install from the damned disk

Alright this just got so frustrating I called my friend who also has Skyrim, and bought from the same place as me. He claimed that he had the exact same problem as me; except downloading wasn't as simple as it is for me. My 460kb/s may be realtively slow, but his internet (messed up) hardly gets 50kb/s so downloading via Steam was hardly an option.
So he tells me that he called the store he bought Skyrim from and apparently the sell virtually EMPTY retail disk, just an empty disk and a code to unlock via steam. My friend then spent days downloading and it worked.
What the hell? retail copy with nothing but a blank DVD and a code to download off Steam????

Steam sales are slowing down servers.
And the people who whine about PS3 install times no nothing of install times..
Give them the Old Amstrad Cassette Computer and watch em go mentally insane from waiting.
PC install times have generally been longer but its for the best, ie, tweaking, setting up controls, sound etc.

TC did this part wrong, so his arguument is invalid. If you have the disc in your DVD-drive when entering the code in Steam, you will be asked if you want to install it from the disc, and even if you failed to do this, you can chose to install a game from the disc at any time. Then why bother putting a disk? Just put a code and say to the customer they have to redeem that code on Steam for download the game.I don't have Skyrim yet. But, I plan to buy the retail disc at Walmart.
For those who have already done the same, were any of you prompted to download the Skyrim game files from Steam (aside from updates)? I have several retail games that require Steam. But, I have yet to see one that requires downloading the game files when I already have the discs.
If I have to download the binaries and other files when I already have the disc, I'd be ticked off too.

How the hell wouldn't he notice that the disk is empty after trying a lot of stuff to get it installed? I know some stores are know for sleazy maneuvers but come on, even if true it would be noticeable.

No you don't have to. What the TC is apparently suffering is a variant of a known Steam issue that has some sort of connection problem when you try to install it. So Steam instead of trying to confirm why it had the error (was it the lack of a disc or a connection error?) just takes it as if you don't have the disk so it starts to download it. Dumbass Steam. :x
[QUOTE="Slashkice"]Yup... Steam logic. what a sh***y service.You bought the disk version...but you're downloading it?

Yup, steam sure is a crappy service because you cant figure out how to install a game from teh disc, yup, what a bunch of ****s.

Hmmm. Error message. Do you remember what the error message was or at least a general idea of what it said? But, yup. The way you described it has been the same way my retail Steam games have been. So this thing with Skyrim sounds new to me.
Well, where I live PC Gaming is almost non existent so I don't know how about retail disks. I only buy my games through Steam.Seriously I think this is a BS myth. He's a very techy person but couldn't get it to work. Support from the store that sold it said the disk was empty :? and that you have to download via steam. Whatever, point is, this game should have been installed 5 minutes after I opened the game, like my other 200 PC games have throughout my gaming career. Not taking half a day.

I screencapped it a while back. It said this.Steam is great, steam is the future, stop complaining. Seriously, steam is not bad, and if you are a PC gamer, you know it. PSN or xbox live never and never will have great sales, discounts the way steam does them. Sure their goal is profit and etc, but at least they don't do it like vultures, they don't abuse milking the cow like so many others.Just got Skyrim PC in the post today, FINALLY. Been waiting ages but things like driving lessons, $5000 home cinema projectors and etc has rendered be unable to buy video games this year, but finally I got Skyrim myself now. I open the box, ready to play the game.. but what thell???? "steam servers unable to handle this operation"????
Two hours later FINALLY Skyrim starts downloading, but it took 4 minutes before it got to 1%.
what the hell is this crap? just let me play my f***ng game!!!!!!
Lemmings go nuts for waiting for a PS3 game to install for 3-5 minutes, but jesus christ this is taking 3-5 hours.

There isn't anything wrong with Steam as a service because there are houndreds of thousands of people playing it right now (like me) that haven't had any issues.
Sometimes S*** happens and things don't work properly. If out of over 100 messages you can't find a solution to your problem then that probably means there is something wrong on your end.
Try uninstalling everything, including steam and then do what they suggest on the site. Sometimes you just need a clean install. try rebooting your router as well or check to see if you need to open up a port.

I fail to see why you are blaming Steam for this. Should the blame not be laid at the feet of Bethesda? It is their game, any problems you may encounter installing the game from the disk is their fault not Steams. Yes Steam download is slow right now, but they are having a huge sale world wide right now and it is not all that surprising that the network is overtaxed. So blame Bethesda for the install issues you have and accept the fact that Steam is currently under an unusually heavy load which may result in a service which is not indicative of normal performances.
