Overrated And Underrated Games

What do you think are the most overrated and underated games?

My Overrated -

Assassin's Creed - controls are difficult and story tends to drag

I never undesrtand how people honestly say Madden is the same game every year, especially with this year's Madden...

Overated: Oblivion

Underated: TF2(8.5....you serious?)

1.You're pretty hypocritical and very inconsistant in yor logic.

Underrated: Mass Effect for both PC and 360

overrated in these topics:

Overrated: Final Fantasy X. I thought the game was linear garbage with no sense of exploration.

Underrated: Shenume. Although not perfect, I felt the game strengths negated alot of its weaknesses. I don't feel the strengths were taken as seriously as they should have been.

I think Super Mario Galaxy was also sort of underrated and if GTAIV and MGSIV got tens, it deserved one just as much, if not more.

I understand why GTAIV and MGSIV got 10's and I think they had good reasons for giving these scores, but I feel some of the weaknesses of both games were overlooked.

GTAIV takes too long to get started. It's starts out much too slow. And although there are some really mindblowing missions in the game, there could be more variety.

MGS4's first act is excellent, but later the gameplay starts becoming fragmented. Europe is where you can really see this fragmentation. In Europe, there's cutscenes, a breif sneaking sequence, cutscenes, an on-rails bike sequnces, cutscenes, a boss, cutscenes. Act 1's story and gameplay was tied together much more nicely and things just start doing downhill as far as balancing story and gameplay after that.

Also, the game is a bit too breif.

But I would give both games 9.8 just for the fact that they outclass almost everything this gen IMO. They are just so unique and rewarding as overall entertainment packages.

But if I had to pick one I liked better, it would probably be GTAIV just because I'm a huge fan of the franchise and I feel the gameplay experience is purer and fuller than that of MGS4, even if MGS4 is far more polished and has what might be the greatest presentational elements in the history of console games.

That being said, I think Galaxy is a purer than both, and its more gameplay-centric than both.

Grand Theft Auto IV -shooting and fighting still have some problems and not a wide variety of guns and driving isnt as fun as it was it the last gamePunchMan72

I never understood the complaints about the driving.

I thought the driving was much more challenging and rewarding than the other games and I felt the cars actually felt like cars.

The shooting, although not the best, was far far superior to the shooting in the PS2 GTA games.

I don't know about you guys, but I was perfectly happy to trade the cumbersome RPG elements and customization stuff in San Andreas for the polish that they gave GTAIV relative to the previous games.

MGS4 ,Crysis, R6V2, COD3 & PDZ

Underrated:

Battlefield Bad Company, The Witcher & Madden 09'

No offence but there's no way in hell that RE4 is underrated. Go and check the scores it got on gamerankings, go and check how many game of the year awards it got.

As for my answers: Zack and Wiki is overrated and Crackdown is underrated.

Red and Blue are probably the best games ever. Yellow was a stretch and Gold ans Silver were both really good allowing you to go back to Kanto. That feeling was only matched by Shadow Moses in MGS4.

I think Yellow was a stretch too. It seemed like the only thing different about it was that Pikachu followed you around and the Pokemon models/drawings looked better in battle mode and the Pokedex.

Ughh, and what's this Pokemon Mystery Dungeon stuff? My little cousin keeps talking about it and how it's soo good, but this is also the cousin who thought I could get Steelix in Pokemon Red. I feel so bad for the children of today. First the cartoons, and now Pokemon!

Overrated - GTA4 because GS porbably got horny from those hookers in the strip clubs. They also seem to enjoy blood, gore and swearing.

Underrated - SMG shows that blood, gore, swearing and non stop violence doesn't make a game 10 material.

I didn't recall them saying any of those things in the review.

What are you talking about? GTAIV got a 10 while SMG got a 9.5. GTAIV got tons and tons of 10's from various media outlets.

There are games with gore and violence which are ten material and there are games without gore and violence that are ten material.

You can look at it 2 ways. At its time period, and now. Looking from both I still feel RBY felt more original and better. Pokemon nowadays is basically.

Resident Evil 4 is overrated. It's given too much credit. All it did was switch genres, pumping up the action, removing the survival horror and the plot.

It's a good game though.

We have too many of these and I am honestly tired of calling games overrated. I will just say i didn't like Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion.

As for games that I feel deserved more praise

Fire Emblem Radiant of Dawn

and Metroid Prime 3

The first one got a low score

I think Brawl is extremely overrated.

underrated: fire emblem radiant dawn, the plot was very different but the gameplay far made up for it.

overrated: SMG, it was good but the music and other parts trying to make it "serious" in terms of the story left me a bit dazzled.

OVERRATED: Halo3, Call Of Duty 3, Mario Galaxy.

In the Middle: Assasins Creed, Cod4, Portal.

Underrated: DOA, Uncharted, Jean D' arc etc just to name a few.

overrated: MGS4..... now don't get me wrong its a good game but not a 10 IMHO.

Underrated: Heavenly Sword. yes i know its a 6-8 hour game but i enjoy every minute of it. come to think of it i think MGS4 game play is not that much longer than 9 hours

The Kingdom Hearts series is underrated on these boards it seems. There are some users that really enjoy the series, plus those that want to know if the series will go to Wii or PS3, but there are also those people that absolutely despise it and come into the topics and say it. :( Can't we just be friends?

Twilight Princess is underrated here. All this nonsense of it has no soul or OoT rip-off. I understand if it didn't meet to what you expected, but it wasn't a bad game by any means and when people tear it apart its like they are giving it a 6 or something.

Wow you've played every single Final Fantasy, including XIII?

GTA 4 was a huge disappointment for me they actually down sized the gameplay and the graphics were not comparable to rest of the games out there.

But I love Burnout Paradise and I typically hate racing games but I took a chance and bought that game and I never regretted it:)
