Call of Duty 4, pretty sad that was a lot of people's GOTY 2007.

[QUOTE="z4twenny"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"] average gunplay and stealth, awkward pacing as in cutscenes begin to totally overshadow gameplay as the game progresses, dialog is badly written and redundant, cutscenes were too long, story is a convoluted mess with lazy plot devices and deus ex machinas, etc.AAllxxjjnn^ really the whole series is overrated huh? im wondering what kind of games you guys actually enjoy (im thinking its 360 games the more you bash)
average gunplay and stealth? what in your opinion has really good gunplay and stealth?
the cutscene pacing, well thats another to each his own. i really like it, 30 minutes or so of gameplay and 30 minutes of cut scenes. but i like movies....
i thought the dialogue was decent. as for the story being a "convoluted mess" i didn't have problems following it personally and i dunno if i would really consider the "deus ex machina" idea to be a "lazy" plot device. but again, thats just me.
I like movies too, in fact i love movies. But i don't love movies in my games, and i don't love bad movies; unless they don't take themselves too seriously.
Splinter Cell Chaos theory has good stealth. ie shooting out lights to alter the environment. and sneak past a guard, things like that. Thief offers better stealth. MGS4 practically encourages you to play it run and gun. Especially with Drebin practically giving you unlimited ammo and silencers. You always have plenty of Drebin points, i never found myself running low on points after Act I. Act III was a good example of poor stealth gameplay. That could have been executed much better, which it has in other games.
Good gun play would be a game like Crysis. It doesn't help that MGS4's controls are still clunky. The cover system is complete suck as well.
The Resistance member had no AI; he was an idiot on rails. Also, what kind of person whispers while trying to avoid a bunch of PMC soldiers? :lol:I agree with the other things you said for the most part. One thing I don't understand about the four Beauty and the Beast bosses is this: When you first kill Laughing Octopus, Drebin calls you on the codec and tells you about her story. Then Snake goes, "Why are you telling me this? You expect me to feel sorry for her?" Drebin doesn't really give him a response. But he continues telling the stories of the four Beauty and the Beasts because...? Snake doesn't say anything after this. He just listens. It's weird. I also thought they could've given them a reason to know what their background is like.
Also, the mission briefings really broke up the sense of urgency. Like right after Act 3, you watch this really corny cut-scene of Raiden being "emotional." I just felt the pacing was way off.
On top of that, I didn't like Raiden this time around. It was like they were trying to make him to be a more badass Gray Fox... I actually liked him as a character in the second one.

I also remember Drebin saying he knew nothing about the B and B corps other than they wanted snake dead, but i guess Drebin wasn't the most trust worthy guy, so i cant exactly knock it for that.
Crysis was pretty bad.
The evironments weren't really that impressive.
The characters where just lame.
The story was bad.
And graphically it was poorly designed (artistically)
It's a shame that a company can make an awesome engine but build a crappy game on it.
CoD4: It was a fun game and all, but it didnt take long for me to get sick of the MP and go back to playing Counter Strike.
Bioshock: Such an awesome game ruined by a poxy final boss. I have never been so let down in my life. My first playthrough on hard and I beat him in a few minutes? And the formula to beat him was the typical Zelda "attack till weakened, then so special attack, repeat 3 more times". Seriously that just made me sit here and say "thats it?"
Super Smash Bros Brawl: Shocking online. What could've been an enjoyable time was ruined by complications with friend codes and extremely bad lag, even playing people living in the same goddamn state and country. Unless you got a bunch of friend who are willing to come over on a regular basis, there is a lot of fun lost.
While many users do this, there are legit reasons as to why many games are overrated. It's quite simply a matter of personal opinion every way you look at it (yes, even the scores are opinions), but if you actually think about where that opinion (well, the opinion of the more intelligent users and critics) came from, you'd realize that it's based upon objective content that isn't debatable in many instance. To say that you didn't like something and to acknowledge that something was sub-par or even decent but got credited for more than it deserved are two different things. The same applies to the term underrated.Calling a game overrated should be banned on this forum. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's overrated. :|
Besides, this is just a thread designed to bash gamers' favourite games disguised by using the term "overrated".

[QUOTE="mitu123"]GTA IV, Halo 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Soul Calibur IV and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.Giancarif we are going by GS scores, which we usually do in SW, TP got the right score Yeah, but it could be a little lower, it was too easy, LOL.
Guess your pc wasn't good enough to play it, kind of sucks. :( Anyway, Halo 3 campaign was completely overrated. The multiplayer is fun however. Oblivion is overrated, but it meets it's expectations with mods. GTAIV was also overrated, I would have given it a 9. Haven't played MGS4 or LBP yet, so I can't comment on those.Crysis was pretty bad.

Msg4 is a 9
GTA4 is a 9
Halo 3 8.5
Resistence 2 8.5
Gears 2 8.5 due to broken multiplayer (if multiplayer were fixed like they said it would be 9.5)

I don't understand why TP gets so much hate. I would put it easily my top 10 games of the gen, probably right outside my top 5.

It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, it's just too easy and I'm against easy games. While Super Mario Galaxy was easy, it was unique and fun, but Twilight Princess wasn't as fun IMO, though it isn't bad.The word overrated is overrated in SW now. It's thrown around at any game that is popular and gets good scores. tmntPunchoutLet me ask you a question: Do you think those games deserve the scores they got? We at least played them(except for Rigga911 since I doubt he has a PS3/X360) and while it all comes down to opinions, we all don't agree with the scores they got. Considering that I'm harsh, it's hard for me to like many overrated games.
Assassins Creed. I can't believe it got a 9.jarvis008Definitely this. Terrible stealth and combat mechanics, the same clunky animations Ubisoft has used on PoP games, dull and repetitive objectives, nice plot device but terrible execution. I could go on. AC is one of those game that reminds me there's no point in a game with certain amounts of ''freedom'' when the objectives are completely dull, just like Crysis.
I'd also mention Oblivion but I didn't get far since it bored me right away.
