ut2004 is leagues better than overwatch. overwatch is a shallow, barely skillfull f2p game they are charging full price for. like 95% of the shit in the game doesnt even require aim. just look in the general direction of an enemy and everything else is done for you

Exactly dude.

Everyone ignores this because graphics!

No longer does a game need to have meat or try to do anything different.

Nobody cares so devs just spam these pretty generic FPS, especially this gen.

inb4 but 21 classes!

UT2004 is my favorite FPS and I'm calling BS on 109 maps out of the box. Maybe now... probably a thousand now. But at launch... nope.

Overwatch does have a pretty clean look, nothing mind blowing but a high end late game DX9 title for sure.

its slightly clean. i mean theres still lots of temporal aliasing which is pretty inexcusable considering how simple the graphics are. it looks incredibly outdated in 2016. it would be right at home as an upressed ps360 multiplatform game

Definitely, this could be pulled off on last gen consoles it probably wouldn't be as smooth (probably 30-40 fps at 720p).

Whats funny is, even after what you said, OW on PC has a higher skill ceiling than literally any console game and will have a bigger e-sports scene than anything on consoles. Your 95% figure is a flat out lie, over half the classes require great aim and quick reflexes. Then the rest have hybrid situations were aim is mostly still required.

But UT2004 was better, I'll agree on that. Nothing really touches that game, you have to compare Overwatch to current gen titles. Like, OW destroys recent slow paced casual shit such as BF, Evolve, Battleborne, Division, Halo, Destiny, Titan Fall, or CoD. Which is why it is getting rave reviews, they are comparing it to recent shooters, not a 12 year old gem.

Overwatch is fun, but Unreal 2k4 is one of the greatest fps games period. So Unreal. Shit all the unreals, except 3 are better games.

You have good taste, but yeah Unreal Tournament 3 was terribad.

First Unreal Engine 3 UT game and we got that, my mind was blown.

It killed the series until this new free to play one coming out (like a decade later).

But could I play my waifu in UT2004? Didn't think so!

Yep I keep saying UT2003 and 2004 are crystal clear proof that multiplayer only games have turned sour, expecting people to be satisfied with a 40-60 dollar product that has a pathetic content listing. Titanfall, Evolve, R6 Siege, Battlefront, now Overwatch. All fell into the same shitty trap. What's worse is the microtransactions that are completely unjustified.

Yeah, I refuse to pay $40-60 for MP games that even while lacking an offline or single player component also have barebones multiplayer.

I'm surprised the average consumer is accepting of this (Battlefront selling 15 million copies, etc), I'm going to assume they probably don't know any better.

Any gamer with some gaming experience spanning anywhere in the last 15 years+ knows these games are a joke content wise nowadays.

I get what you're saying, but for today's standards Overwatch is still the best option other than CS:GO as far as skill shooters go. All the real content will be free updates rather than shitty season passes, and it will be getting a lot of those since Blizzard.

On PC that is. This is unplayable on console and probably won't even last nearly as long, like CS and TF I basically consider it exclusive...IMO.

Less content on launch, but we knew that. The skill, teamwork, and gameplay are great as ever in OW, IMO.

Fortunately it will only increase, and for free. OW on PC is going to be majestic, count on it.

@brah4ever: I mean they dropped onslaught and made decisions that made it more like a glorified unreal championship game than unreal tournament. It was fun in its own right (though the interface on PC was terrible), but it was such a class below 2k4.

Then again a lot of people forget unreal tournament 2003 was kind of disappointing, and needed 2k4 to make good on it. Either way not having unreal level gameplay and content isn't a fair knock. Those games were the shit. **** I'd be down for a proper unreal championship 3, 2 was a badass game on the Xbutt

Not really when you think about it.

UT was one of the games that inspired the combat in Overwatch, it's in the dev documentaries.

UT2k4 by far obviously.

Overwatch is console casual cartoony shooter combine the elements of borderland and destiny. its one of the biggest rip off in a sense its full priced game sell with no SP.

In terms of modes/player count (one of the dumbest metrics for judging a mp game/lack of SP, that argument flies.

In terms of Unreal having way more maps and actually having mod support? Not that absurd. Hell Team Fortress 2 had mod support, and that's a pretty big deal for the longevity of these games. I know this forum hates the hat servers (official servers still exist, but whatevs), but some of the more absurd servers with the bizarre maps made TF2 a blast to play when you didn't take that game seriously. That and multiplayer games deciding not to have bots anymore, when Unreal still has them. Fair argument as well.

I think the maps comparison deserves a level of scrutiny as it requires to people to also remember, that a lot of Unreal 2k4's maps weren't original new maps for Unreal 2k4, they predated that game.

Simply put Overwatch is a pretty fun game, but the same cronies that love doing the gameplay per square inch nonsense with other mp games, suddenly don't mind with Overwatch.

Unreal Championship 2 was a pretty interesting spinoff.

But about the dropped onslaught that was a really weird decision since the mode had so much potential and it was a huge hit on the past UT.

UT3 was definitely more console focused compared to the PC exclusive UT's, it showed in the way the game played and the map designs.

The same ppl that complain about "today's games" and lack of content or whatever.....have no quarrel with Overwatch bc its Blizzard.

Comparing UT2K4 is a prime example of what used to be and what is accepted now.

Mmhmm, UT3's gamepad limitations were obvious as ****. Which is why the idea of a multiplatform Quake being made is whatever to me. I know there are people who look back fondly at the old Quake campaigns (fucking gross btw), but Quake to me, was a multiplayer game. It was Unreal or it was Quake (I mean really you could play both, but Unreal 4 Life), and it was fucking glorious. I want a successor to Quake 3, not another shitty thing about a Shub-Niggurath or whatever.

Luckily we have the early access Unreal Tournmanet already, and that game is already such a fucking blast.

Yeah, it's kinda sad how people turn a blind eye to UT2004 basically being a full-priced content patch for UT2003 for the sake of their petty argument.

The game was good, but the reason it had hundreds of maps was because this is how they tried to justify the price on top of what you've already payed for UT2003 last year.

And please, don't fucking say "it had single-player" when we all know it's just a botmatch.

Overwatch has the same kind of "single-player", if that's really your point.

Overwatch and UT are very different. Overwatch's 12 maps are more than enough to keep you busy for months. The different strategies, heroes and team compositions that you can use keeps the game fresh for thousands upon thousands of matches. It's also heavily team focused and personal performance doesn't mean much if your team isn't co-operating.

In comparison, UT needs the large number of maps so that players are forced to adapt to new environments, weapon placements and choke-points. Even team modes like Assault and CTF, personal skill trumps team co-ordination. One or two players can decimate the opposing team if they're good enough.

UT2k4 is easily one of greatest games of all time! I can't count how many hours I spent on that game. Overwatch is a great game as well, and has serious potential to join the ranks of the other GOAT's; Especially during a time when we are flooded with mediocre shooter after mediocre shooter;...it's a nice breath of fresh air...so to speak. But, it has totally different play style and mechanics though vs UT2k4. The games aren't really comparable in my opinion.

Unreal Tournament was for people not good enough to play Quake.

UT(any of them) have a much higher skill cap than Overwatch. It's a shame the duel scene for UT2k4 wasn't ever that big when it was quite good.

Why compare Overwatch to UT2004 instead of the new Unreal Tournament?

But could I play my waifu in UT2004? Didn't think so!

Yep I keep saying UT2003 and 2004 are crystal clear proof that multiplayer only games have turned sour, expecting people to be satisfied with a 40-60 dollar product that has a pathetic content listing. Titanfall, Evolve, R6 Siege, Battlefront, now Overwatch.

So what does that say about the state of the genre, today?

What's funny is every thread I see him in defending Overwatch he wants to bring on consoles players and consoles is bad and blah blah blah LOL. We get it, you're a PC elitist, you think consoles shouldn't exist, consoles are the devils work LOL. Just because someone doesn't like Overwatch that doesn't have anything to do with the PC vs console debate you have constantly going on in your head cause I'm sure there are PC players that don't like Overwatch.
