considering 360's lead has gone form 8-7 million at the start of 08 to 4-5 million at the half way point it's pretty easy to see ps3 will most likely overtake 360 in worldwide sales in early/mid 09Ragashahs

I've been saying it since day one, fanbase alone will help the PS3 pass the 360 in sales.

last gen Sony sold 120 million and MS around 25.

do the math.

Sony knows this also, they said it themselves, that loyal fans will buy the PS3 even without games.

I'm sitting here watching my girl play Too Human, I'm happy to see her enjoy this game and can't wait to get two copies so we can co-op this game to death.

see what I'm doing here, enjoying myself and letting PS3 owners enjoy whatever makes them happy playing the PS3.

you don't see me posting up articles saying "girlfriends rather play 360 over PS3", if it was you, you would break your fingers just to put it up on this post as fast as possible.(well honestly, renegade would probably beat you to it)

Thats because they are hardcore gamers or Sony fanboys who would save up to buy gaming systems no matter what. I am talking about the masses and fact is that the PS3 is geared towards a wealthier market, its look, blu ray, etc. easily indicate this. Where as the 360 gamers come more from the low/medium income segments which are the most affected by thecurrent recession and high gas prices...

Exactly the Blu Ray attracts those wealthier consumers to buy a PS3 during the current recession wheras the 360 does not have such a direct feature that would cause the mass higher income consumer to purchase it.

You should read up in the news most of the world is in an economic recesssion there is labor strikes in every major airline worldwide. Markets have dropped. The Euro has increased its value so rapidly that most European nations are facing masses of people that are unable to buy normal goods. I am European BTW.

The first talks of an upcoming recession came in September of 07 and it was dealt for the most part because of the failing real estate market. I am currently majoring in a degree in Econ so I know what I am talking about. And the $50 difference may not seem big but thats the whole point when the wealthier mass consumer that has the disposable income to buya gaming system currently goes into the store he will see a system that has Wifi and is able to play Blu Ray along with his HDTV and the other does not and is only $50 cheaper, the decision is simple as these people dont care much about games thats more of an extra feature.

Huh? When did the Fed declare a recession? They can't, actually, since a recession is defined as two straight quarters without economic growth. We grew in the first quarter of 08 by 1.1%. The average is around 2%. Why are you spewing nonsense?

That would apply to the PS3 and Wii as well.

It does however as I said the PS3 has certain features that also attract consumers of higher incomes and its only $50 more expensive. And it has affected the Wii look at the sales numbers from last year they have decreased even though the supply is much higher now, additionaly the Wii is a much cheaper system.

well after telling my girl a million times what the buttons do, she is really kicking ass in too human! lol

yeah while you work in econ i work in reatil so i'm actually the one selling these things and let me say that the video game sales have gone through the roof despite the recession. and i'm not talking about just ps3 or hardware when i looked at our departments sales by each section we found every sections sales were either down or didn't have substantial growth all except for one and that would be video games. both software and hardware are selling better than normal and it's not that we're selling less 360's. our 360's sales have stayed the same for the most part when comparing 07 to 08 so far however ps3 sales have greatly gone up in that same time. the main reason it the blu ray player as you said however the reaction isn't the the ps3 also plays games but that the blu ray feature is an added bounus on top of great games. oh yeah my job is at walmart in the electronic department so we don't get many "wealthier mass consumers" thereRagashahs

Nah you cant say that your local retailer represents the country as a whole, some places are more hard hit than other, while some areas are far more wealthy and always have been. The general mass consumer usually will go with whatever is the best value and the fact is Blu Ray offers the PS3 far more value esp with people that are not very interested in gaming. And you also have to remember that MGS4 was a huge title that caused an upswing in sales, much like a Gears 2 would do on the 360. And lastly now that that Sony won the format war it is obvious that the PS3 will benefit from higher sales esp in the short term.
