and another thing!! didn't anyone find it funny that when he said

"and if you are a developer..the point in making a game is to sell as many copies as possible..and what either your going to program the game for the largest possible audience.. which is the consoles..you say no no there's a billion pc gamers out there..there's not"

yet while he said that..they show dragon age gameplay..a game who was made primarily on the pc...better graphics, controls, etc

I'll give you a cookie if you convince me into giving a **** about sales. Really, I'm serious. I could be only person in the world playing games on my PC, still wouldn't care.

A 13.1 billion dollar software industry that has been consistently growing is very insignificant.

PC gaming could be on its last dying breath and the fanboys would still deny it. :P

Pacher is an idiot. And that first question is stupid too "Will it further hurt the PC community". Pachter is stupid and the people that send in the questions are stupid.

13.1 billion $$$$$$ revenu is a very small number...

He isn't including things like subscription fees (WoW) and advertising profit (Farmville).

I'm sure Xbox live fees don't count either, right?

wait a minute... its funny how everyone quotes pachter but once he says something like... the PS3 will outsell the 360 by 2011...everyone goes back to " its PACHTER LOLZ" mode but since hes saying PC is weak...everyone is praising him

devious742

Hell no. I don't care if Pachter releases a market analysis showing that the sky is blue - he still doesn't know any more about video games than your average game blogger, and any predictions he makes will reflect that.

I'll give you a cookie if you convince me into giving a **** about sales. Really, I'm serious. I could be only person in the world playing games on my PC, still wouldn't care.

Hanass

Metcalfe's law. The more people buy a game, the more people you have to play against. This seems like a multiplayer-only concern, but keep in mind that game sales beget future game development, and in the extreme case that you become the only PC gamer left on earth... well, then I hope you know C++. That said, I don't think any platform is in danger of being dropped on account of poor sales.

I'm sure Xbox live fees don't count either, right?

Bebi_vegeta
They shouldn't, in any reasonable discussion of platform sales. If anything, it's a negative to publishers - those are dollars going into MS' pocket that could have gone into their own pockets instead.

Well this is what we need to know, and what Pachter needs to show us the numbers, not estimated %,and let's exclude this and that, but facts.

i agree with some points he has. PC gaming is not dead its just less relevant . Consoles can do more and more so there is less reason to buy a gaming pc. A home threater set up is a much better place to make then at a desk with a tiny monitor . 50 intch plasma ftw

Vandalvideo
24' 1080p monitor up close is much better than any sized HDTV from a distance

Unless you're farsighted.

I'm nearsighted : ) It's called glasses. When I play on my TV I have to wear glasses. It considerably worsens the experience for me considering my short distance vision is almost exactly the same without glasses as it is with it, ergo I don't wear them when I play computer games, or most any other times for that matter.

PC gaming i do believe is minimizing but dieing is over reacting. PC gaming will always be here but i think it's only going to either the causals success like sims or hardcore niche games like MMO's, PC shooter, and RPG's

To comment on Pachter's comment, yes it is. More and more consoles are being sold a year. Most people like the idea of being able to buy a console and not have to upgrade it and can just play games right out of the box. Many PC exclusives are coming to consoles due to worldwide sales of console games. Not to mention PSN and Xbox Live are growing online networks for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

PC is so dead that it has more high rated exclusives this year so far than the x360 and it's slightly behind the PS3 (only because the major titles are yet to come), not to mention the superior versions of Mass Effect 2, Metro 2033, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Supreme Commander 2 and pretty much every multiplatform game out there.

R.I.P. PC.

I say Farmville. Also, why did he exclude WoW?

Farmville? What's next, the helicopter game?DarthBilf

It has 82.7 million users.

Shame how such a boring game can have so many users. If you really need to play casual games, why not just buy casual games on Steam which are better than games on Facebook? Or play casual games on your iPhone or DS, which is more portable than your PC browsing Facebook.

Because it's not on Facebook and Iphone and DS games aren't free. Your right about the games being better and more portable but the reason Farmville gets so many users is because it has sort of "I'll just do this" quality that has people play it for hours when they just logged on to check their comments. Plus I'd say a large chunk of those users are probably who "don't play games" and think because it's Facebook it's different from all those other games.

Helicopter sims are more hardcore than any console game :] The most recent one : Black Shark make Demon Soul look like a fricking casual game. So don't group them with Farmville pleaase

why would a "by the numbers" analyst discredit the expanding PC market?

88mphSlayer

well, he obviously is only talking about US sales and there the market for PC games is indeed very small.

Yes, dying just like its been dying for the past 25 years. I think anyone who ever thinks that PC gaming is "dying" loses all their credibility as a journalist.
