This, and people should remember it works out both ways, there are games that come out later for consoles.

Main two companies behind late ports were MGS and Capcom, MGS is out now and Capcom is aiming to release future titles closer to each other. Actually most big multiplats this fall will be simultaneous on PC and consoles.dc337

No it is not mainly two companies.

Remember:
Gears of War
Condemned
Braid
Mass Effect
Lost Planet
Force Unleashed (still not out)
Red Faction
Burnout Paradise

Probably more I'm sure.

They do it because of piracy. They want people to buy the console version since with the pc release they have to compete with the pirated version. Physx is just an excuse just like how Lucas arts made the optimization excuse for force unleashed. The pc is easier to develop for than the ps3, so if any version should be delayed due to optimization it should be the ps3.

They don't state piracy because if they did they would have the pc gaming legions fill their forums with complaints about how piracy isn't actually a problem and how some are going to now pirate the game out of spite. They don't want to anger pc gamers since some will actually buy the game, though of course most will pirate it.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Did you even read my post? Half the games you quoted were MGS/Capcom published so you only further proved my point. And I never said MGS and Capcom were the only ones, I said they were the MAIN ones who did it consistently with all their games.

You boldy stating that it's due to piracy does not make it true. I'm not saying it's not an issue and might affect their decisions, but games like CoD4 have shown that releasing all versions simultaneously does not make everyone just pirate the PC version and leave the console versions dust in the shelf. Capcom representative I quoted said piracy is not the reason, you're flat out calling him a liar.

How do you explain games like CnC3 and SupCom being released later on the 360, it's due to piracy, right? Or the multitide of MMOs that were supposed to be multiplat but cancelled on 360, all because of piracy? Sacred 2, Infernal, UT3, ET Quake Wars all later on console, and always because of piracy?

There are other reasons out there, the main one being limited resources, sometimes they have to prioritize, that's mostly why we see some versions come out sooner than others. And priority is always on the platform that their game is mainly targeting, often with multiplats it consoles, but it does go the other way around too. I'm sure otherwise every dev would love to put out every game on every possible system out there.

Second are publishing contracts, for e.g games like Braid and Mass Effect weren't on PC from the start because MGS had exclusive publishing rights for a time.

Third are technical reasons, each platform has its limitations, even PC. That's why we see MMOs cancelled for 360. Core PC gamers simply don't buy games like TFU, that's casual stuff and if it doesn't have "casual requirements" to go with it it's propably better left undone. Thus their "too high requirements" excuse IS indeed justified.

And PC is not THAT easy to develop for, there are multitude of configurations unlike consoles, testing takes time. And console hardware, aside from GPU, does differ quite a bit from what the average PC gamer has under the hood.

So when the reverse happens (console game is released after PC one) I assume it's also because of piracy ? Makes sense ;)

Using games like Braid or Force Unleashed as examples is just plain silly. braid was released on PC so much later because Microsoft FORCED the developer to do so, that was the deal they got for XBLA, they had to provide period of exlusivity. And Force Unleashed wasn't delayed, they weren't working on PC version at all when the game was shipped on consoles

1 ) They just announce their games for consoles only.

Yet they don't do that do they? Console companies are increasingly moving their games to PC.

2) After some months that their game sold at very high prices "" 59.99 to 69.99 "" on consoles they announce the PC port.

Console games cost more because of licensing fees, the developers/publishers don't see any of that extra money.

3) PC port release with higher standards and very lower price 39.99 most new AA-AAA games.

PC games cost less because the platform does not charge to sell games on it...

AnnoyedDragon

If you're going to be a consolite at least get informed on the subject, that way you don't look ignorant when you try to bash a platform  Console games costing more because of licensing fees is common knowledge.

Did it ever occur to you having such a wide range of hardware configurations increase the development time of PC games compared to fixed hardware platforms? Plus console games have to run perfectly on release, so take higher priority than the platform with a performance surplus?

Really now , you talking to me or what??...

not true, they are adding phyx support to batman pc and other improvements, hence the delay. nothing to do with sony or microsoft. at least tehy are taking the time to make a good job of the pc version, unlike some devs.
