ok most build here where focused on money, what about power consumption, can anybody make a custom built that will consume an average 150 Watt gaming and provide the same performance as the ps4.

Keyboard and mouse are not needed, the os also no needed.

I doubt that's possible. The CUSTOM motherboard and APU of the consoles has a lot to do with the low power consumption. You are not going to get that effeciency from seperate PC parts

@Couth_: Did you not see my post? Very easy to achieve...

Nvidia 750ti = 60w

Intel CPU = 60w

You'll EASILYfit the HDD, RAM and motherboard within the remaining power budget.

750ti is faster then a 7850 in PS4 but only needs 60w of power..

the mobile CPUs in the xbox one and PS4 help a lot with power consumption and heat. You can't use a mobile CPU in a good gaming PC. at minimum you want an I5 (with an I7 being ideal) and both will draw more power and heat then a console

Actually 7850 is faster. Maximum PC did a budget videocard roundup and the R7 265 (rebadged 7850) beat the 750ti pretty handily.

Want to be more specific than intel CPU? Haswell i5 hits 160+ under load which is about what you will need to match PS4 performance with a 750Ti.. PS4 GPU>750Ti

Errrrr..... no...... the comparison is equal performance for equal power.... gaming wise an half decent Core i3 would smack the consoles around.

Errrrrr.....no.....i3 is going to struggle mightily with modern/future games.. price/performance is going to be shit with an i3.. You could get a lot more performance out of a cheap AMD processor but then the power consumption thing goes out the window

An i3 would batter the 6 cores the consoles have to play with... much higher IPC and much higher clock speed on the i3 make up for lack of physical core count.

I didn't realize i3's were multithreaded.. They actually can hold their own then... 4130+750Ti would do the job but you might top off at 150-200W under full load which is a fair trade off. It can be done OP

Hyper threading is the MAIN difference between the Core i3's and the Penitum dual cores.

The Palit GTX 750 Ti Storm X Dual just about matches the Sapphire R7 265 on BF4 while using considerably less power at around the same price.

I actually had to look that up since it's not a common term in the US. I'm both employed and in education

I have to admit that overclocked 750 ti is quick and only uses 75w, I hope nvidia release a new generation of maxwell cards, I hate the high TPD of high end gaming cards, it turns your room into an oven. Still an i3 + 750 ti in 3 years will lag behind the ps4.The games are going for more cores and that i3 could be a serious bottleneck, it already is with some games. that 750 ti oc is just too close to the ps4 gpu to allow it to cruise this gen.

The differences in cost are negligible, unless you're running some insane 1500w quad-SLI setup or something.

Could DX12 improve performance further? Being a low level api and all the other extra benefits that DX12 should bring.

@sakuragi007: 4 threads at 3.4ghz should hold their own against the consoles to be honest...I don't see the consoles lasting very long either. Never mind the weak CPUs, the gpu s in them are already 2 years old..not literally but 7850 is 2 years old and 7770 almost 2.5 now

a very tough exercise. i'm not sure it can be done. at least not at the moment.

in the future intel/amd's CPU's with integrated GPU will provide a viable gaming solution within that power budget.

good question though.

The key feature of Nvidia's new Maxwell line is crazy good power per watt. We'll see what happens in a few months when the 800 line rolls out.

Actually is does vs stock 7850, but not by much. a simple 10% overclock will allow the 7850 to perform sightly better.

7850 TFLOPS 1.75

PS4 TFLOPS 1.84

5% faster

7850 pixel rate 27.5

PS4 pixel rate 25.6

7% slower

7850 texture rate 55

PS4 texture rate 57.6

5% faster

PS4 TDP is 137w, it would be a challenge but not impossible, The problem is that the PS4 cpu is only clocked at 1.6 ghz making its power usage even lower.

AMD Athlon X4 720 Trinity 3.2 ghz 65w TDP.

GTX 750ti 65w TDP

total 130w
