So far call of duty has not hit shores yet until November early but from the information i have found it seems pc users on "call of duty black opps will get a ripoff of a deal with this"

According to GameServers' , ranked servers will cost $14.95 a month for an 18 max player limit. Discounts are offered for monthly prepays. Unranked servers will cost $0.99 a month per player up to maximum of 24. Teamspeak support will have an additional fee. Discounts will be offered for a 3, 6, and 12 month prepay.

Treyarch Community Manager said this partnership will provide high-quality private servers at an affordable rate for the game and re-emphasized Treyarch-hosted dedicated servers dedicated servers will remain free.

So far it's so uncertain if any pc gamer will put up with this greedy activision stamp.

While it also is uncertain if consoles that use p2p file sharing over servers to play games will be able to host "locally" without any interruption of private matches, or laggy dedicated matches this i am uncertain will happen,

What Should happen is tho the xbox owner pays alot for a membership isn't it fair to at least host your own private game, if you can rank up in offline black ops why not local mode,

Tho this is still not yet certain if true

The question is what will you be playing call of duty black opps on,

Console:

PC:

both will have their strengths and weaknesses, from paying something like 14.95 for only one game mode for just 1server

or console that will support no local host, i could be wrong

I'm not getting it at all, because: 1. I hated World at War and Modern Warfare 2 2. I can no longer feel right about buying an Activision game. I refuse to support that company whilst Bobby Kotick is in charge. If I ever buy another Activision title, you can bet it'll be used.

Anytime someone hosts a server, whether it be from a server bank, or their own private in-house server it costs money. Servers don't come out of thin air you know. It's been this way since the dawn of dedicated servers.

This.

I've hosted a few servers for friends and talked to server admins and they have to fork out money for private servers due to the electricity consumption, bandwidth cost, hardware, maintenance etc. etc.

I hate it when console fanboys start mouthing off about stuff they don't even understand.

You really don't know what you're talking about do you? The statement that is paraded around by PC gamers is that dedicated servers are free for anyone who plays on them. It is common knowledge that a server host has to pay for it.

Same thing goes with Xbox live except that the online service is more crap and you have to pay for it.

Console Black Ops.

I may get it for the 360 because most of my Friends that play Call of Duty have an Xbox.

Maybe for the PS3 because I'm used to the controls on the PS3 version of MW2 and some of my friends play it on there.

and maybe even for the Wii so I could have a new FPS for the System and use that awesome new looking Wiimote and Nunchuck made specifically for the game.

You dont have to pay for a dedicated server. You can build one yourself. Gaming on PC is free, some people just want to pay for better stuff.

I seriously doubt that, if you are going to do that then you may as well be playing on a private server. Public ranked servers are for everyone, only time an admin will kick someone is if you are cheating or just being rude.

cant say I've ever seen anything like that in the games I have played... COD4,CCS,KillingFloor,UT3. Though I'm sure its true, its just not the best way to go about things if you want to have a popular server.

Thing is, most clans will offer multiple servers which cost money. If they are good servers they will always been popular. There are full free servers around, its just where you play I guess.

FPS on PC always. Thats not even debatable if the option exists. Having said that, haven't bought a COD since 2 because they are completely underwhelming.

I think people are taking this the wrong way. You only have to pay if you want to host a server, and its always been that way. Whats the problem?

So don't play on a clan server... I don't know what it's like in the US, but here in Australia, the majority of servers are public servers provided by 3FL, Internode, Gamesarena etc where you will never be kicked off unless your cheating, acting like a tool, or have some absurd ping. Dedicated servers, even in Black Ops, which is the worst implementation of them that I've ever seen, is still going to be miles ahead of peer-2-peer. That isn't even up for debate.

Besides, it costs nothing but your free time to join a clan, and the clan who's paying for the server have every right to do that. The only reason they are paying for one in the first place is for their private matches. The bottom line is that nearly everyone who buys Black Ops will not pay a cent for playing on dedi's.

What does activision have so very much against dedicated servers? is it simply because they want to force PC players to also buy their DLC packs?

I find it funny that console gamers just found out that communities in PC gaming host their own servers. Goes to show how uninformed many are.

Apparently dedicated servers are bad because they cost money to rent, lmao. Gameservers.com didn't just pop up out of nowhere. They been around since 2004. Dedicated servers for games been around longer than that.

I will pay for neither. Only way I'd get black ops is if Steam has it on sale for $3 in 2013.

Happens a ton if you are playing on clan servers, in my experiences. Once the clan members start logging on they start booting noobs. Sometimes they will let some of the more l33t players stay and play w/ them.... like myself :P

then again the last PC FPS i was hardcore into was Soldier of Fortune 2, which was the awesomest fps ever as it was kind of a quake/counterstrike gameplay hybrid. All the servers for that game died out... which is another potential pitfall of having user hosted servers.I tend to play my FPS games on consoles nowadays... although im somewhat sick of them in general.

There are enough servers that you can usually afford to black-list those with features you dislike, such as booting you in the middle of a game. I stick with whatever pops up when I search for Highlander and Vanilla. The only server i really regular is nomnomnom.

Well yeah the servers I play in are mostly clan servers.... But the clan also usually has a private server as well, so they never kick anyone. But I can understand them kicking people if they only have one server.

If I were going to get it, it would be on ps3 since that's what I have. I'm not ruling it out, as a lot of people I like playing with will likely get it, but I really don't want to buy it because Call of Duty has crap online on consoles. Their p2p netcode sucks balls, and the games are constantly laggy. It gets worse with every iteration. Additionally, the games themselves are rather unimpressive. Black Ops does look to be adding more than they ever have before though, which might make it the first COD sequel that actually feels like a sequel and not a map pack.

The only reason I will ever consider buying Black Ops is to see how bad it is and perhaps play zombies (unless it is outrageously priced DLC). Even then it would be second hand, no way Activision is getting a cent from me.

Do yourself a favor and buy COD4, you'll save money and get a better game.

Isn't that a bit presumptuous...
