So I've finally broken down and decided to buy a new gaming system but I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want to get.

Typically I've been a PC person but it seems like getting a 360 or PS3 is way cheaper than investing in a gaming PC. On the other hand, PC's generally get much better game selection than any particular console, although consoles do have their own "brands" of games.

I've heard that the 360's have a lot of performance issues based on poor cooling design and that the PS3 suffers from too high a price and poor game selection. PC's are generally much more expensive and have a higher chance of having a fatal component error.

Anyway, what do you all think?

You don't need an HDTV and you pay for games with the PC as well. :?

The only true part of that is the online, which is only 50 bucks a month. :o

PC gaming is more expensive in the long run, sorry. I thought this was widely agreed...

I generally don't discriminate when it comes to genres. I like FPS, action (Splinter Cell-types), racing, some fighting, RPG, sports (mostly American football), etc.

It is. PC gaming is more expensive. It is also far more rewarding and fun. Specially if you enjoy building a new rig and find it a hobby.

Pc gaming is not expensive in the long term. As long as you shop around and get a good pc to start with it will last as long if not longer than the life of the consoles. What you pay extra on hardware can be made up in game prices that are half that of consoles. Like i said, so long as your initial purchase is a wise one it will last you until the next lot of consoles is released.

The questions you should be asking yourself is not about price but what kind of games you like.

Personally i love FPS, RTS, TBS and adventure games and mmo's. This means pc is king for me. Also most pc games are harder and more complex than console games. Much better for adults imo, consoles are for kids, imo.

IF you like arcade style games, racing, fighting and sports games i would go console, 360 to be honest.

Other things to consider is mods. PC games, most infact, get mods. This is one of the best things about pc gaming in my opinion. You can easily turn a good game into a truly great game.

You will not be able to build a PC that can compete w/ the 360 for the price of the 360. That's a simple fact.

But you can't do everything you can do on a PC on a 360. the 360 is strictly for gaming.

the PS3 will bloom next year. probably around the summer. You should wait until at least then to buy one. They will use 65nm chips which will use 50% less electricity (they use A LOT now), they will include the rumble controllers (Dual Shock 3), there will actually be more than a small handful of games worth playing, and they will be less expensive.

The 65nm 360s will be arriving in the states about 2 weeks after HALO 3 arrives.

PCs are also just entering the crossover point. Quad cores are too expensive now, but in 9 months they will be very affordable, the current high end video cards will also be 1/2 the cost at that time as well.

So my recommendation would be this: Buy a 360 now (in 3 weeks). Enjoy it & save up for a PC. Buy/Build a PC when quad cores approach $150 in 9 months & when vid cards 1/2 in price. Then buy a PS3 after it moves to 65nm & Dual Shock 3 w/ price cut (should be $350 then).

Depends where he lives. In Europe PCgaming will be cheaper than 360 gaming. And by "games cost 10 more" he obviously meant dollars (because 360 games do cost at least 10$s more than PC ones).

Anyway..which to choose? Decide by games. Take a look at exclusive line-ups of each platform and then make a list of games you are interested in, the platform with longer list wins.It really is that simple.

Hmm. On the one hand, I can get a system that will allow me to play so many of the games I've been waiting for: Crysis, Far Cry 2, Spore, KotOR III, Stargate Worlds, to name a few..

On the other hand, I can get an Xbox 360 that will let me play other games I've been interested in. Gears of War, Halo 3, Perfect Dark Zero, not to mention the others that will be coming out soon. And by saving money on the 360, I could potentially buy a flat-panel HDTV to play it on. And not only would I get the enjoyment of the 360, but I could watch my football games, tv shows, whatever....

Ahh! Too much to think about!
