PC-Exclusive Divinity Original Sin II gets a 10 here in GS

The Good

• Spectacular scope and depth that could easily keep you playing for over 100 hours
• Detailed plot set in a world that seems completely lived in and authentic
• Expansive tactical combat with seemingly unlimited options based on spells, skills, gear, and ever-changing battlefield terrain
• Deep character creation and customization options due to extensive ability and skill options
• Beautiful visuals along with an evocative musical score and impressive voiced dialogue

THE BAD

• Confusing journal makes it hard to keep track of individual quests and the plot

Now that GOTY award is getting very interesting, this has been the best year for gaming

I thought it was multiplat w/Xbox One and PS4? After double checking, yes, it's only out on PC, for now.

Something worth noting, this is £29.99 in the UK, with no preorder crap. While many games are trying to push £49.99 with microtransactions e.t.c...

Yes, this is the first time ever! But for how long it will stay a PC exclusive? The first Original Sin was on PC in 2014, then came out on PS4/Xbox One 2015

I only played the first one. To me, Divinity: Original Sin feels like an answer to the question: "what if BioWare, Black Isle and Troika never stopped making top-down cRPGs?"

At its heart, D:OS is a sandbox game that gives you many, many different choices of how to play the game and role-play your characters. It also has a unique tactical battle system where environment matter almost just as much as stats, abilities and positioning.

Larian have always said if the game sells well on PC they'll port it the consoles, just as they did with the first one. It's selling very by the way so going multi-plat is pretty much a given.

Pretty awesome review. I like the first one, played it on the Xbox One. I'll wait for this one to hit the Xbox One as well.

The first one showed hints of brilliance but was really amateurish with story and dialogue and crap voice overs. They seem to have fixed all those things, it's next on my list to play. Really looking forward to it, a 'proper' game by all accounts and that's a rare thing these days.

I much prefer turn based combat or even real time if it's done properly to the real time with pause combat of something like Pillars of Eternity which I tried to get into yet again and have to concede it's just a plain fucking awful absolute disaster of a combat system that will never ever get better.

@Archangel3371: It's a well written review i agree. I also have the first on X1 but haven't finished it. It's the combat. Turn based is coma inducing. Have to accept ourselves in life. This isn't for me but I hope others enjoy it.

About midway through Divinity: Original Sin II's campaign, I was called on to visit the family farm of a heroic colleague named Gareth. On arrival, I found him mourning his murdered parents and calling on me to help him take revenge. Pretty standard RPG stuff.

But when I went to the farmhouse in search of the killers, I was greeted by paladins who prevented me from going inside. I tried to change their minds during dialogue with the in-game persuasion skill. No dice. I was facing a brick wall with this quest. The only choice I had was to kill the paladins. So that's exactly what I did. But after I stepped over their bodies to proceed into the farmhouse, I discovered that the murderers inside were possessed innocents. No way of releasing them from this magical mental bondage presented itself. The most expeditious way of moving forward with the quest was to kill them. I did that…and then discovered a love letter from a possessed woman to one of the paladins that had stopped me at the door.

After playing the first one (severely overrated game btw) I had no desire to try DOS 2, I gave in and tried it and I have to say it's a lot better than the first one. My prime grip with the first one was the characters were dull as ****, not a single likable character in that whole damn game, fast forward to DoS 2 and messing around with some of the characters they are literally 1,000,000x better than the characters in DOS 1.

Red Prince and Fane are the shit, I honestly can't remember the last time I've enjoyed my part roster in a crpg since maybe Planescape Torment (Pillars had a few good ones).

Made him my tank, with some poison spells. I just send him in first, and have him fart poison everywhere to heal himself and damage everyone else lol.

Yea, bit unfair really. Zelda's established so by default it wins, even though Original Sin 2 is far more of an accomplishment.

I'm hooked just like I was with the first game. Though where the first focused more on the gameplay mechanics and combat than it did the story and characters, this one has it all. Everything about the game has been improved and refined. The pre-made characters/origins are awesome as well and all have their own backstories and motivations. I'm not sure about the story yet - I've just now gotten off of the first island after ~30 hours of just messing around talking to everyone and exploring. The amount of options is staggering. There are so many different ways to achieve your goals!

It will also be released on consoles too so everyone can enjoy it.

10/10 would back another Larian Studios game again!

Finally PC gets a 10/10 Essential must play excluive, now its only around 90% behind consoles, but you got to start somewhere! :D

Well consoles enjoy a 90% increase in 10/10 Exclusives not to mention excluive GOTY, which PC hasn't gotten in the last decade +. Maybe this game will get them over this horrendous drought~

Most "hermits" can afford a shitty $350 plastic box for the odd worthy exclusive :)

Pfft, but you can't count CRPG, MMO, MOBA, RTS, etc. Dude bros don't care about them, so they're invalid.

Walking simulators like uncharted? PC gamers everywhere need to drain the tears out of their $200 keyboards since we can't have amazing games like that.

Yes the world is a better place with games like Uncharted 4 and Journey.
