don't get me wrong, Iam a PCgamer in heart ( if you look @ my Xfire, you only see arround 10% of the games I played, since I never use Xfire)

but, Crysis have been leaked, and all you see on the Crysis board is that everybody is saying how far they are with downloading it

really makes me sad

I know Console games can be downloaded to, but not in the numbers of PC gaming

And you know what makes me sick??? That they charge $50 for new PC games and $65 for New PS3/Xbox360 games. If they where cheaper don't you think that most people who download them would buy the original copy insted?? I surly think so!

But Piracy is something you can't go around....there are too many people in it. How was Crysis leaked??? Someone who works there did it....so don't blame the people who download it.....blame the people who put it on the server.

If they put someting in front of you and they say is free you will refuse to take it???

Be honest....you would download it too if you know how.

Unless you are ultrarich!!

And if you say that you are a PC gamer you must have played at least one downloaded game!!

Well that's how it goes, people spend fortunes in their rigs but are often unwilling to pay for games. But for the defence of those downloading Crysis I gotta say that with the poorly optimized demo it's imo morally justified to download the full version to see if it runs any better on your PC before bying it, after playing the demo with a crippled framerate I wouldn't/won't spend a dime on it either based just on a whispered promise of better performance.

No one will bust you if you just have one copy and you are not selling it! Also there are too many people downloading stuff from the net!

I got Gears of War....paid $53 for the damn game and it keeps crashing. If I where to download it insted and try it I would have know about the issue and won't spent that money....it's $53 wasted....there is no fix for it and I'm not the only one that has the same issue. There are many other people. Go to the Epic forums. So do you think it's fair to ask $49.99 for games like these??? I think if games where like $29.99 piracy would decrease....but it won't end!! It will never end! There are people who refuse to give a dime for any game. I spent a fortune on my PS3 collection....always got the games when they came out. I have 28games as of today....multiply this by $65. I have 50 Blu-ray movies....multiply this by an avrage of $28. Look how much money I spent.....and If I would have gotten those for free how much would I have saved....or just half price...for $29 games....and $19 for the movies....there will be so much more people buying them.

But maybe it's just me who thinks that way.....

Yea, PC gaming has been the home of way too much piracy.

Talk about killing the industry. Thats proably why most of the big pc FPS's come to console, so the devs can make a few bucks.

On the contrary, its impossible to prove that the piracy of PC games has become widespread, or that it has a negative affect on the industry as a whole. What many fail to realize is that piracy not only promotes a franchise to a larger number of people and raises brand awareness, but many people that pirate do so out of socio-economic reasons. They couldn't have afforded the game even if they watnd to buy it. In such a case, how are the companies losing money?

The 360 is the most pirated console since the original Playstation. Hell, if you read a certain thread on this very forums front page youll see more then one person admitting to downloading Assasins Creed.

That they download it doesn't mean they aren't going to buy it. If I had a good computer could get Crysis a couple of weeks before I was supposed I'd gladly download it, but I'd also buy it when it came out.

Is that so??? I'm from Europe and I bearly know anyone there that has even one original CD or game. Most people download them from the net...and share them with their friends.

Also I known people who had copied PS1 games back in the day. I even remember Police busting in their home...it was on TV but they only owned one copy of each so they couldn't do anything to them.

I think it's fair.....these videogame companies charge too much money for their games(I'm not saying that they don't deserv the money) but it's too much!! Imagine if they ask for less....piracy would decrease. everyone likes an original copy more than a pirated one but to most of the WORLDs population these things are too expenisve!

A great example is the Wii....look how great is doing. And it's not because of its games. It's because of it's god damn price. You can say what you want but if the PS3 or Xbox 360 would be at the same pricepoint the Wii won't be so popular as it is now.

Sam goes here....if prices ar lower more people buy....if prices are high people don't buy.

You always get more costumers when you have a sale in your store than when you are selling at regular price....it's common sence! And you make more money way faster douring the sale!

Pirating is much harder than it was before.

Anyone remembers the old days? You could just copy the game on a floppy or casette and give it your friends.

Heres another way to look at it: They spend so much upfront on their rig that they simply can't afford all the subsequent game releases for that rig. Therefore, they pirate. Or heres another conundrum, prove that those who pirate do not buy the game.

Pirating because you cant afford it doesnt make it right. And if you cant afford games maybe gaming isnt the hobby for you. Spending thousands on a super computer is not an excuse for illegal downloading games.

I cant prove they dont still buy the game, but i can assume with great certainty that, if they pirated the whole game, they would have less incentive to buy the game upon release than had they waited in the first place.

And heres a question ofr you: If you already have a good computer, and financial security, why would you opt for buying a game as opposed to just downloading it for free? Not all pirates are poor unfortuante souls.

Not very many, all things considered. Compare the pc top sellers to the ps2 top sellers, also note how important a timed exclusive series was to the ps2 (GTA).

Oh believe me, I'm not trying to justify piracy. Its illegal in the US, they should be locked up for their actions. I'm just saying that this issue isn't black and white, its shades of grey.

[QUOTE="JPOBS"]Pirating because you cant afford it doesnt make it right. And if you cant afford games maybe gaming isnt the hobby for you. Spending thousands on a super computer is not an excuse for illegal downloading games. I cant prove they dont still buy the game, but i can assume with great certainty that, if they pirated the whole game, they would have less incentive to buy the game upon release than had they waited in the first place.Vandalvideo
Oh believe me, I'm not trying to justify piracy. Its illegal in the US, they should be locked up for their actions. I'm just saying that this issue isn't black and white, its shades of grey.

Point taken.

[QUOTE="Cali3350"]The 360 is the most pirated console since the original Playstation. Hell, if you read a certain thread on this very forums front page youll see more then one person admitting to downloading Assasins Creed.kevy619

And yet 360 software sales are through the roof.

You act like PC games dont have many multimillion sellers :|

Not very many, all things considered.

Plenty actually. This whole idea that PC games dont sell is rediculous. In the last 3 years the PC has 4 games that sold over 10 million.

Technically the legality of it is up for debate. The Digital Millenium CopyWrite Act is NOT clear on such cases, and a few that have gone to legal action were awarded in the defenses favor.

While i cant comment directly on PS2 sales, a Wikipedia entry shows it at...4. Just like the PC.

3 actually, as for WOW it has subscribers listed, not game sales. One less then PS2. Such horror! More then either GC or Xbox too.

While it is all time sales all 3 of those games came out during the last gen consoles lifetimes.

Even so, you cant pirate WOW. And it could be argued that people who buy the sims games dont even know how to pirate.
