Dude that 9800GT sucks ass; I can't believe people are still buying that POS. The 4870 is like 3 times better and costs like $10 more if you look hard enough. If you don't find one, a 4850 is still miles better and costs $15-20 less.

[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"][QUOTE="Zero_epyon"] So if you bought a pc for 300 and now need a $150 just to run newer games, that pc now costs 450 and so on. Zero_epyon
There is something you are not seeing though.
That PC has countles uses outside of gaming, what I am showing right now typing this for example. If it would cost $150 to upgrade it into a gaming machine that is your gaming specific costs; which don't include the price of the system. The exact same argument can be made for a HDTV, it has multiple uses, but people try to exclude the TV then try to tell PC gamers they must include the price of the whole system.
I know PC's are used for more than gaming. I use my to run crysis but also for virtualization and foldiing@home. I don't think PC games should include the monitor in their prices. You need a display regardless and today you can use 1 display for both so price really comes down to preference. My question is really how much do you have to spend on a pc to get console performance? Also, using your logic, if that $150 upgrade went to getting a new OS, then other aspects of your computer just got overpriced since they didn't require it and you gaming costs stay the same. Am I right or did I interpret it wrong? Win 7 RC is free for a year.lol? you know nothing of computers.Dude that 9800GT sucks ass; I can't believe people are still buying that POS. 9800 GT isn't 3 times worse than the 4870, i own a 4850 myself, i know the 9800 GT when heavily overclocked is still within 10% difference and where the hell did you pull that costs 10$ more and 15-20 less? are you nuts? around here, a 9800 GT costs 109 euros, a 4850 costs 129, and a 4870 goes for generally 169 upwards, do i need to link you to actual benchmarks where they put the 4850 and 70 against the 9800?Try and build a PC that can play Fallout 3 all maxed for $199. chaoz-kingyou talk like the 360 actually runs it maxed.

And we're talking about Newegg prices. Take a look:
4850 for $97: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824
4870 for $117 (after rebate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131140
And he linked us a $110 9800GT...
Oh okay, let's keep at the numbers game without considering context, shall we?
The PC has 80 AA+ exclusives this generation alone. The PS3 only has 11. From that, we can infer that the PC has 7.2 times as many high quality exclusive games as the PS3 does. How many PC gaming configurations necessarily cost 7 times as much as a PS3?
Arguing over numbers like this isn't a very fruitful pursuit, because ALL the hermits have to do is pull out the fact that while a PC may require 50% more buck, its giving you back 500% more bang.

Just wait. ATI will eventually come up with a physics solution; after all they are always one step ahead of nVidia every time.

Are you basing that judgement on actual information or fanboyism? Don't bother answering, I know which.
For the record ATI's GPU computing solution CTM flopped, no one adopted it, so they have teamed up with Intel to work on an open source version.
To date there are no games in existence that use ATI's GPU computing methods, past or present.
For the record before you decide to label me a fanboy; I realize Nvidia's solution is going to die just like ATI's, there isn't room for a brand biased solution. As with all the other solutions CUDA will be scrapped when Microsoft releases the compute shader with DX11.

I don't call anyone a fanboy, only you do that to people who prefer something that you don't like.

Yet you would have if I didn't say it first, you are clearly ATI biased so if I didn't add that last bit you would have come back with something.

I tend to prefer the cheaper products that perform better. Sorry if that sounds dumb.

And there's that fanboy attitude again :P
For the record I got my 8800GT when it was the best price/performance GPU available, the second one was cheapo off E-bay.
You can say what you want about Nvidia but they do stuff while ATI makes tech demos, that's why this game plus others have PhysX while nothing supports ATI's solution.
ps3 has web browsing xDPC gaming is for the people who want the next next next next up in their gaming exeperince plus other things such as web browsing, making games, photo editing etc etc.
It does cost more to buy at the start if you want everything new... but you get the better experince for the most part :)

Web browsing isn't a feature you can simply check off a tick list, there are good web browsers and bad ones.
PS3 web browser is what we would call bad, very very bad. Don't lie to me, I've got a PS3 sat right next to me so I know exactly what it is like.

Ok, good for you, but now there are new cards that kick its ass for less.
And like I said, I'll get myself an nVidia card when most games support PhysX. But yeah, you can still call me a fanboy when you CLEARLY aren't even slightly better.

I'm a PC gamer, I know the drill when it comes to progressive technology. You can either put your money down and buy the best you can get now; or you will always forever be waiting for the next one around the corner.
The 8800GT has served me well, not that cross platform games need much performance to be maxed out.
