i see a lot of 360 bashing from hermit and i am half hermit myself so i know what im talking about , so i challenge any hermit to explain how fast easy and painless it is to install half life 2 or tell me why i cant rent any pc game why minimum requirement mean you have to double it to get a decent frame rate or tell me how to use a computer in my livingroom on a standard tv without having 2 tv pluged in the same time , how fun it is to transport your pc to a friend house how you feel owned after two week your 500$ video card is obselete, how desperate you feel when your pc crash for no reason , i know pc offer more performance but it came with a price and to do good gaming you need a lot of knowledge and time to tune so hermit be less arrogant and respect console user some of us are really happy with console a way we cant acheive on a pc.and im am a french canadian living in a town where nobody speak english so dont attack my grammar attack the content.

So your point is, the price for a much better experience is more knowledge required and more cash? Hardly a dark secret.

And also, try not to let your rose coloured lenses run away with you. It's not like console gamers are eternal victims of PC gamers slander, everybody is just as guilty as everybody else on System Wars.

Case in point, Mikasa's threads about how the 360 version of Bioshock is better since you can rent it....

I'm the same myself and I agree. I've also wasted a lot of money on games that simply won't run on Vista. Also the new protection on games is a pain and makes installing it a right chore, then signing up to a download site to get the latest patch, then trying to optimise performance and graphics, then like with Gothic3, getting a fatal exception error every 6 minutes of playing.

I look out my window, and the earth is flat.

The earth doesn't move under my feet, but the sun, moon and stars do move, therefore the earth is the center of the universe.

Like the above statements, your entire post has been dissproved time and again. Quite frankly, I'm suprised you had the motivation to post.

Get back to me when you're playing Company of Heroes, Total War Series, WoW, Civ 4, C&C3 and NWN2. Until then you'll just have to settle with consoles = action whle PC's = strategy.

Well I actually recently installed HL2 on my PC and it took about a half an hour, including all the Steam fluff so I watched TV while it was installing, whilst no where near as conveniant as a console it's worth it.

And my PC is rotten: 400mb of Ram, and old Celeron processor and an inbuilt graphics card on the mother board and I get at least 30 FPS on the game, all that and it's running Steam etc in the backround. Hoo rah for PCs!

I'm the same myself and I agree. I've also wasted a lot of money on games that simply won't run on Vista. Sounds like you have a beef with Microsoft. Do you own a 360? Maybe instead of making a console with defective hardware, they should of spent that cash on making their software work. Also the new protection on games is a pain and makes installing it a right chore, You are correct. Installing games with protection is a "right" chore. It is "right" because it will prevent theft and benefit PC gaming.then signing up to a download site to get the latest patch, Signing up to get a patch? I have no idea what you mean. Is this like signing up to Xbox Live to get patches for Xbox games? Maybe you have your platforms confused. then trying to optimise performance and graphics, Selecting settings is a benefit, tweaking ini's etc are a benefit and aren't necessary then like with Gothic3, getting a fatal exception error every 6 minutes of playing Lumping all PC games into one experience isn't a good thing to do. I guess this is how 360 owners feel when people complain about the "Red Ring of Death" except the "Red Ring of Death" affects a far higher percentage than one PC game.

If Steam is causing you such a hastle, then just buy a retail version. On the PC, you have the option.

It's true, PCs require more knowledge and dedication, it's not always just "plug and play", unless you wanna spend fortunes to a pre-built up to date gaming machine. Imo PCs are DIY gaming platforms, it takes a little know-how, but it's well worth it. Tho personally I think that in the modern age where everything is done by computers, knowing how to use one for gaming shouldn't be that difficult. I'm always shocked when someone hasn't heard of google, or has no idea what's the difference with Ram and HDD, but those people do exist and consoles are definately better for them.

so i challenge any hermit to explain how fast easy and painless it is to install half life 2legol1

I may not be the best person to ask, since I pre-ordered the game, pre-loaded months in advance, and then activated it within the first few minutes of the game's launch - allowing me to play it five or so minutes after the game was released...
...but I'll answer it anyway: extremely fast, and totally painless.

or tell me why i cant rent any pc gamelegol1

You can, from online rental services. Otherwise you'd just pirate the game.

why minimum requirement mean you have to double it to get a decent frame ratelegol1

Self explainitory. 'Minimum requirements' refers to the least amount of hardware needed to actually get the game to run - if your PC is only barely capable of running the game, then you shouldn't expect decent framerates.

or tell me how to use a computer in my livingroom on a standard tv without having 2 tv pluged in the same time ,legol1

Can't you just plug it in, and adjust your monitor settings? It works with laptops - I haven't tried with a desktop.

how fun it is to transport your pc to a friend houselegol1

It's just as fun and easy as transporting a console (although there are a few extra cables).

how you feel owned after two week your 500$ video card is obseletelegol1

Fortunately, games which actually require new graphics cards don't come out every week, so I'm happy maxing out, say, Bioshock with my two-year-old rig.

how desperate you feel when your pc crash for no reasonlegol1

I can't remember tha last time my PC crashed. Also, I know several people who are currently waiting for their 360 to be repaired...

i know pc offer more performance but it came with a price and to do good gaming you need a lot of knowledge and time to tune so hermit be less arrogant and respect console user some of us are really happy with console a way we cant acheive on a pc.and im am a french canadian living in a town where nobody speak english so dont attack my grammar attack the content.legol1

I agree that consoles are easier to use, but you'll get more out of your games with a proper gaming PC. If you just want to play games casually, go for a console - if you want to experience everything that your games have to offer (and more, due to mods), go with the PC.

If you are smart, PC gaming won't be a problem because

smarter=better job

better job= more money to spend on upgrades

better PC=play games max out

maxout PC game>>>>>console games

1.) That takes like what? 3 mins at most if you have a decent rig?
2.) No you don't. Play on the lowest settings + lowest res and you'll have decent framerates. It's a MINIMUM requirement for a reason yah know?
3.) Ever heard of VIVO (Video in Video Out)? Almost all the graphics cards come with this function these days, heck they even give you the VIVO plugs (it has component slots, input slots, output slots), S-Video cable for your TV, etc with your video card. This has been around with the Radeon 9000 series, X800, X1000, HD 2000, 6800 Series, 7000 Series, and 8000 Series.
4.) They actually sell MiniPC boxes which are pretty easy to transport. There's even wheels and handle bars sometimes for tiny little girly men like yourself.
5.) A $500 video card would last you maybe 3-4 years if you're willing to lower some settings. What kind of dumbass buys a $500 graphics card anyways? You buy the mid-high $150-$200 and you upgrade form there when the time's right.
6.) Ugh... use a back-up program, dumbass. There's plenty of them--Norton Ghost, TruImage just to name a few.
7.) Your grammar sucks. You have failed. Go cry yourself to sleep now.

Wow, you really took my post apart. I have no problem with Vista as an operating system, everything runs fine...except some companies games. Guild Wars, HL2, NWN2, Colin McCrea Dirt, C&C TW, STALKER, all run like a dream, Gothic 3, TW PGA tour 07, DMC3 and few others don't. Not MS fault.

I do own a 360, it is a launch console and I've had zero defects and it will stay like that because I'm soon upgrading to an Elite.

As for the protection system, it is a pain in the butt, I always have to run the game as administator. I know that it's a good thing for copywrite protection, but unlike steam, it's not user friendly.

sigh!! these lemmings always like to move in circles, putting forth same argument again and again, which have been dissaproved so many times. i can guess now why xbox 360 has has 360 in front of it, its because its fanboys always turn around a full 360 degrees and start the same arguments again.

It also works the otehr way around mate. there are Millions more PC gamers, to whatever degree you would consider them (above solitaire) , ofcourse not as many upgrade yearly or whatever but PC gaming is huge compared the next gen console's current ownership.

And your sayng the same **** all over agian that every insecure lemming says when he makes this exact same post.

Performance issues with DX9 have been a fairly substantial concern.

Interesting how you upgrade your console, a piece of hardware and ideal that is revered to not have to be upgraded, yet if one upgrades a PC, many state, "you have to upgrade your PC every six months." In both platforms, that is the users option, not necessary.

I own both a 360 and gaming PC, this is the real dark secret.

This generation sucks for consoles and PC lacks games in the following catagories and lacks functionality for split screen multiplayer.

JRPG

action games

Adventure

Platformer

Sports suck on PC

Fighting games

Thats about all the problems that exist right now.

Oh and PC game graphics are scaled so that sucks as well.

Nope, my PC installed Half Life 2 in ~3min when it came out--maybe your PC or hard drive+DVD drive just sucks? Sure, I upgraded my PC 1 time since HL2 came out. It doesn't mean I had to. I just had extra money lying around.

My laptop was £2000, I have no problem spending money on gaming, apart from golf, it's my main hobby.

you think im stupid and you shoud be more carefull i insult nobody i just telling you many gamer will never invest in a pc because it is not user friendly and you know that and a lot of gamer love console and dont want lose time with pc .legol1

No, I just think that the PC has games that the consoles cannot do. I see you dodged my post about all of the games that you cannot and will not be able to play on consoles.

If I want a game that makes me think I don't pick up any of my console controllers, I go straight to PC. When a console can deliver all of the things that my PC delivers to me, including the best way of viewing the web and the ability to freely mod my games, then we can talk. Until then you are basically saying that Fruit is greater than Cheese...which is nonsense, they may both be food but they have completely different tastes and textures.

The only way you can win is to own both consoles and a PC and appreciate the strengths of each. Until you do that you just come off sounding like a fanboy...

If you are smart, PC gaming won't be a problem because

smarter=better job

better job= more money to spend on upgrades

better PC=play games max out

maxout PC game>>>>>console games

My advice? Don't buy games designed for a console on your PC.

FRieDRyCe

Do you actually think a console gamer can understand that ? :|

i am sorry but it take a lot more than 3min to install halflife2 and dont use your today pc but use the one you have when hl2 launch you must have upgrade it 2 time since im prety sure hahahalegol1

HL2 takes very minimal time to instal and infact it only takes so long to instal because you have to download the patches for the game. Another fact you seem to ignore is that steam=no cd which means (unlike consoles which as you previously said only need to put in the disc to play) can play off the hdd and as such run/load faster then a console.

On noes, my 360 RROD'd and scratched my disk....help me you all mighty console fanboy!

See my PC doesn't crash, plays all the games I want it toat the maximum settingsbut then I didn't buy some cheap hunk of junk off the shelf and built it myself. Sure this requires knowledge but if you don't have it then stick to your consoles and be happy. I'll still be playing games you'll never see as well as all the games you do :).

i see a lot of 360 bashing from hermit and i am half hermit myself so i know what im talking about , so i challenge any hermit to explain how fast easy and painless it is to install half life 2 or tell me why i cant rent any pc game why minimum requirement mean you have to double it to get a decent frame rate or tell me how to use a computer in my livingroom on a standard tv without having 2 tv pluged in the same time , how fun it is to transport your pc to a friend house how you feel owned after two week your 500$ video card is obselete, how desperate you feel when your pc crash for no reason , i know pc offer more performance but it came with a price and to do good gaming you need a lot of knowledge and time to tune so hermit be less arrogant and respect console user some of us are really happy with console a way we cant acheive on a pc.and im am a french canadian living in a town where nobody speak english so dont attack my grammar attack the content.

Eeekkk stop talking sense, he can't handle it. I also bought Bioshock and HL2 on Steam. Bioshock pre-loaded for me and was ready to play at the stroke of midnight on the games release day. Half Life 2 downloaded in about an hour and worked first time without the need to do anything.

Like anything though, if it requires a little thought or some technical knowledge (as a PC surely does) then people run screaming.

Sigh this thread reeks fail.skrat_01

Every thread arguing either side of this subject fails, because you can't convince either side (hermits and non-hermits) that the other has valid points. Hermits scream about hooking PCs up to TVs and about how the only people who don't like to play games on their PC are "n00bs", non-hermits scream about how expensive the PC experience is, and about all the work involved in making sure a gaming PC stays at workable level. No one ever gives in, and people just end up hurling random insults at each other (probably even more so than in other SW threads ;)).

Except people like me that enjoy gaming on both and recognise the fact that the reason this argument can never be won or lost is that both sides have EQUALLY valid points.

Then again this is system wars and it is the place where those kids who can only afford one or the other come to bash the systems they didn't get ;).

Honestly I dont care what systems people like If you rather console > PC, as it is your personal preferance fair enough.

Its just when people spout stupid misconceptions (Cant hook up to a TV, console online is better - because -, consoles are more 'powerful', PC hardware is obsolete in months - let alone a year, PC gaming costs a fourtune) ect. ect. ect.

Its just that - what TC has proved, gets PC gamers involved in one of these long winded arguments, where PC gamers end up repeating what they have said many times before.....

Your right, but in most cases here, the Lemmings dont own a gaming PC and judge everything off thier personal experiance or look up a bunch of complaints and throw them in our faces.

I own both ... I was told Vegas had good online with Xbox LIVE , turns out it doesnt, I'm being told Gears of War had a brilliant Single Player and Multiplayer experiance and was well worth its 9.6 score .... I fail to see it after bullet grinding Locust number 12324241 in a grey world.

Now .... my Xbox360 is currently being used as an MP3 player attached to my PC Soundcard & Monitor until Halo 3 is relesaed.

I was a manticore last gen, I'm not impressed with these immitation PCs that takes ages to bring out good games, which are deprived of being as good as they could be, because they now have to be good in all aspects, including things that was once left to the hardcore PC devs.
