PC gaming is stronger than ever and will continue to grow as people realize how redundant the consoles are and make the shift to quality gaming on PC. Sony admitted they released the Pro as an attempt to keep gamers from leaving to PC and Microsoft has embraced PC with their Play Anywhere initiative. Things are looking good. :)

Didn't the last JPR article that was posted here state that the PC gaming hardware was at $200 billion and the gaming GPU market alone was worth $30 billion. Take of that what you will as that article was pretty atrocious for its accuracy.
Hardware is getting more an more expensive so this is a surprise because? Now I pay $1200 for an awesome monitor alone. A couple of years ago I paid about $1000 for the whole package.
@arunsunk: I am not sure about the other JPR article, but there are many market research articles that talk about the strength and growth of the PC gaming market. Things are positive for sure.

You can still get the whole package for $1000. However, your willingness to spend $1200 for a monitor means that you are willing to pay for quality. That is the beauty of PC. There are options and there is something for everyone.

well MS and sony are kinda doing the same thing now. You can buy a cheap entry level system or a high end system

Options for consoles are good, but I wouldn't exactly call them high end. I have the PS4 Pro and it is still shit. The Scorpio will be respectable in terms of specs, but I would rather just play on PC as all the MS titles will be on PC.
I have said many times that we should all be pushing for a unified open platform on PC. No more exclusives. All games available to everybody. There can still be consoles in this ecosystem with set hardware specs that developers can target. People could buy these for a simple solution with maximum compatibility. There would still be custom PCs to cater for the more hardcore as well.

I agree on the exclusives for sure. realistically they aren't doing anyone good anymore. spending a ton of money on games that you can only see to a certain audience. doesn't make a lot of sense when games cost tens of millions to make. it was fine when games were cheap to make and hardware made money. Now it doesn't make sense

PC gaming dominates in China.
Nice. PC can't be stopped, even globally!
That's a lot of console owners paying full price for anything coming out due to lack of choice and the majority of PC gamers getting more for less due to high competition within the platform driving prices down and amazing sales.
Money is not a metric that can be used to measure value for money, quality of experience or level of enjoyment for a platform.
I may be one of those rare people, who have switched from PC to console.
I rarely game on PC now, and my Ps4 library has expanded incredibly, while my Steam library has remained stagnant since this time last year. for me, console gaming offers the superior gaming experience. I found PC gaming too high maintenance, and i felt that if i wasnt able to run a game on its highest settings, that I wasnt getting the same satisfaction or experience that other PC gamers were getting which bothered me more than it should have.
I like that console has standardized hardware, and software, I feel that everyone has the same opportunity for the same game experience, especially on multiplayer games.
with that said, im glad to see PC gaming growing. I think competition is good for the industry to strive higher on both PC and Console.

Hmmm, strange that you don't point this out to the TC who's taking about the money spent in PC hardware or the people bragging about the PC, yet have issue with the one person that shows that console game revenue is higher than PC game revenue...
Also time posting here doesn't magically legitimize your arguments at all.

That was the first and only instance of the image required to make my point and the comment was at everyone.
All my friends game on steam now... it's great coop action. Steam app let's me keep tabs on em too... chat from work.
My understanding is the Switch app will be similar. But I feel like I'm stranded on an island when I game on my consoles.
The thing that keeps me from gaming online with my friends on consoles is the online fee.
I do like local co-op on consoles. But I have a ton of friends on Steam and Origin that play games I like, for example Company of heroes 2 and Battlefield 1, so i'm good.
Back when I played Left 4 Dead on PC I didn't have many steam friends that played the same games. But I just added players that I liked to team up with :)

So do you have a pro then? :P
Especially when the scorpio releases this will be even further from the case and you're assuming that everyone's internet is equal for MP games.
Yup PC gamers love to buy the latest hardware, too bad they don't pay for games, so will continue to get indies and console scraps.
2,1b console
6,3b pc
6,1b mobile
Keep in mind that console titles are mostly 75% of its revenue in the year they launch, for pc that number for some games like wow and league stays the same, or becomes even bigger.
I wouldn't be shocked if wow already made 10b with world of warcraft for example, league of legends is looking to hit this year 3b revenue already.
People spend way more money on pc games then console games.
Not to forget e-sport which starts to become massive right now, i believe e-sports already bring in for league of legends about half a billion if not a billion this year. Let alone other company's.
Most people make the mistake to look at steam numbers when talking about PC gaming while not realizing that steam doesn't even have the biggest games from PC gaming under there belt. It's yet another store nothing more nothing less.

You have never enough performance, there is always something to get better. Once you realize this, that issue is no longer there.
But consoles also start to do this tho, you need a pro if you want to max your ps4 games, if they keep this up. you will have to upgrade your hardware every year also. And also buy a high end PC to play those console games on a even better visual level.
My vision is atm, 1080p, 60 fps, high settings. I'm fine.
I firmly believe few people would not like the pc experience more. Over time, it's the cheapest option (5 year chunks...the real price for our hobby...the box is just the first cost), with the best fidelity and best experience. Why would you want to go 30fps when 60+ is so smooth? Why have games not render in your monitors/tv's native resolution?
Many comments about the "maintenence" of pc gaming are misinformed...I've had more issues with my consoles in the past 5/10 years than I have on pc. Driver downloads are quick and easy. I have options in my hardware. Paying for online is for suckers (Forza H3 I can play multi on pc...on my console, it's a greyed out option, because why am I going to give money to MS for nothing?)
That said...I have an Xbone S, Xbone, and PS4. They make great little media boxes around the house, so I can play my movie rips from my pc, which has 10tb storage. Disks are so last century!
+ One of my favorite pc features...trainers/cheat engine. I play games the way I want. My buddy always reminds me how he spent 10's of hours making daggers in Skyrim. That's not fun. I type in a line, and I'm done in seconds. For people that want to grind away on crap like that, that's fine. I have a life...I'd rather enjoy the fun parts of games with my time.
@PinchySkree: No but thread after thread created by pc gamers stating the same shit does.
And you look at global sales and consoles are still more. Thats impressive considering one of the largest markets in the world just started selling consoles.

To put this into perspective for the full market and not just a cherry picked table
and to put the importance of Asia-Pacific into perspective as well, it is after all the most important PC gaming market.
A point about this Newzoo data is that these tables come from a report issued in June 2016 and are only predictions, not accurate data. An accurate report will cost in excess of $3000, something I'm not about to pay for.

Web based games can be played on non-PCs, hence the flaws with your selected graphs.
For most cases, game consoles has better hardware averages with GPUs that ranges from XBO to PS4 Pro while PC gaming includes Intel IGP which is lower than XBO.

Entertainment Screen includes streaming game services such as PSN as well as VR revenues, the majority of which comes from systems that can only run on a PC.
Tablet and Personal screen includes software that can be run on either or both so those should be combined. The mobile games market has the largest revenues by far when it's accurately portrayed. Consoles have the smallest and PC sits in the middle.

PlayStation Now (web gaming streaming service) is available for PS4. PlayStation Now is used as PS3 BC for PS4. PlayStation Now is still powered by PS3 game console.
NewZOO's global game graphs cloaks Chinese games from companies like mainland Chinese Tencent which are not applicable for the majority of non-Chinese audience. Until recently, Chinese government warped gaming market by restricting foreign game consoles.
We know Sony's game revenues are mostly for PS4.
EA's and Activision's XB/PS game console revenue exceeds PCs.
MS gaming revenue hardly change from H2 2014-H1 2015 which are mostly XBO revenue based.
NetEase and Tencent are the two large Chinese game companies.
@ronvalencia: No one can go to any shop and buy the "PlayStation 3" hardware that has been custom designed to allow the network to run PS3 games. It takes a bit more than some gaffer tape, gorilla glue and wishful thinking to get 8 custom console units into a single rack server.
Also when was the last time you plugged a console into your phone and ran a game?
Edit: That pic is out of date, it doesn't show Windows PC.

I dont have a pro, and yeah, it bugs me as well.... the same argument applies to console gaming too.
The more i think about it... I just prefer playing games on console right now, simple as that. in a few months that may change back to PC. Ive certainly swapped between the two in the past.
