PC gaming is dieing guys, AMD just shipped 2 million DirectX 11 GPU in the last three months. Yup PC gaming is officially dead.

AMD released their new DirectX 11 GPU in October last year and in three months they managed to ship 2 million graphics cards. Not bad considoring PC gaming is dead and that they had MASSIVE production problems which meant for the first month or two there were hardly any available to sell to customers.

PC Gaming is DEAD:lol:

No... no...no, Pc gaming is fine devs just need to take reasonable anti piracy measures. Such as Steam only and you need to be connected to their servers at all time to play or use sony's idea of having a 1000 gb blu ray disk.

considering as soon as someone gets a hold of the data it can be cracked, this is 90% of the problem with pc games and piracy, the only types of games that will never be pirated much are MMO's. You can play on private servers but they are always going to be far worse then the 15/month counter part. Steam doesn't stop anything, i know people that play, but don't own half life 2, its just much much more convenient for the people that do buy games, and they don't have to worry about anti pirating measures that break their system. I'm looking at you scrapland and that god awful cd destorying check.

+1 for you, good sir.
I myself realized this this morning when Will Wright stated in a CES teleconference that Sims expansion packs are no longer a viable cash cow, and that he has decided to spend more time with his family, and with his pasttime of tweeking Sim City 2, making the underlying mechanics of it to be the worlds most perfect humanoid interaction simulation, rivaling those of NASA, CERN, and Disney.
After hearing this, I quickly ordered a used Wii off of Ebay, so that I will have a system to replace my PC for all of my first person shooter needs.

That's why I like sony's idea, if you have 1000 gb that are needed to play the game, no one in their right mind would download that.

PC gaming isn't going anywhere, but it's a misnomer to quote video card shipments as an indicator of the popularity of PC gaming. ALL PCs have a video card of some sort, whether it's ATI, Nvidia, on-board, or what have you. And obviously not everyone who buys a PC, builds a PC, or buys a new video card is a serious gamer.

and who is going to spend $300 on a graphics card just to browse the web when they can have an intel one for next to nothing? highend radeon and geforce sales are pretty much for gaming.

there are few other things highend gefore and radeon cards are bought for. you buy a much cooler and quieter 4650 for hd videos, you use onboard for your office pc and you buy the firegl/quadro cards for highend workstations. radeon 4770+ and geforce gts250+ are pretty much bought for gaming of some sort. Might be in a family pc but there will still be the kids that game on it sometimes. no professional workstation has a gefore or radeon card.

I think PC gaming is doing ok. Its just not as prevelant as it use to be with the "hardcore" gamers. Consoles have always been the real money makers. Well except when gaming crashed in the 80s.

In the long run...gaming will all come together. One console will eventually play all games. It will have access to full m/k support along with gamepad support FULLY..

This is just my feelings. Will it be in 10 years? I dont know, might be in 20? BUT it will happen eventually.

You're forgetting that this doesn't include any NVIDIA cards, or any of the directx 9, 10, etc. cards that people have. I sure as hell don't have a DirectX 11 card but I still play PC games.

You are probably right I totally over looked workstation cards, but I have always heard that simply hacking Graphic cards is more cost effective then purchasing workstation, but I wouldn't know due to the fact that I don't work with workstation cards. Their is also some multimedia programs that are already trying to take advantage of directX 11, and I dont think current workstation cards support directX 11.

I also think that many people are still waiting for the new NVidia cards before buying a DX11 card. The fact that it was almost impossible to get a 5800 for a long time didn't help either.

To be fair he did specify DX11 cards. That means the 5xxx series which you don't install to browse the internet and watch movies. You buy these cards to game.

Mitjastiskovski

Refer to http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3711

"That of course doesn't tell the full story, and in speaking with ATI we were informed that 70% of sales have been 4300/4500 parts - the lowest performing, least expensive offerings. 15% of sales are from the 4600 series, which is where reasonable gaming can finally enter the picture. As for the 4800 series, it's still sitting at less than 5% (with the remainder of ATI's sales apparently coming from older 3000 series parts). As far as high-end laptop graphics is concerned, NVIDIA has had a clear lead for a while, for a couple of reasons."

http://www.techspot.com/news/35607-amd-intel-gain-gpu-market-share-in-q2-2009.html

Raw numbers Q1 2009(74.8M) and Q2 2009(98.3M).

Let's do some estimates. AMD has 18.4 percent of PC GPU sales i.e. 31.8504 million for Q1 and Q2. If we apply 15 percent for Radeon HD 4600 series we get 4.77 million for Q1 and Q2 2009. We can estimated that Radeon HD 4600 series annual sales to be around 10 million i.e. Q4 sales are ussually higher.

In 3 years, ATI Radeon HD 4600(RV730) series alone can reach about 30 million i.e. uptake is faster than PS3. Like Radeon HD 2900/3800 series, ATI Radeon HD 4600 series includes 320 SPs and RV730 an entry level "Fat" GpGPU.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4600 series was renamed as ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5165. In another words, RV730 is not end of life (EOL).

Other numbers to consider, Refer tohttp://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/amd-takes-market-share-2009aug18.aspx

By the end of Q2 2009,AMD overall takes 53% mobile discrete market share. My estimates for RV730 2009 sales would be higher.

We're not even factoring NVIDIA's counterpart to ATI Radeon HD 4600 (RV730) series. NVIDIA's side can cover PS3. ATI RV730 side can easily cover Xbox 360.

In the future, please keep things in proportion.10 percent of minority in PC world kills Xbox360/PS3 in yearly unit sales.

Please note ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 has 8 ROPs (like ATI Xenos and NVIDIA RSX)and It's 3DMark06 scores similar to NVIDIA Geforce 9500M GS(G84M)/Geforce 8600M GT(G84M). ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 was renamedas Radeon HD 5145. Again, not end of life.

You need atleast NVIDIA Geforce 9500M GS to match Xbox 360 and PS3 in running Unreal Engine 3 type games.

PC 3D game engines (e.g. Unreal Engine 3, CryEngine2) are also used for real time architectural (e.g. buildings), real time CE products designs visualisation, real time interior design, education and training.PC world plays games with real life money.

PC > Consoles If you're willing to pay the money and spend the time learning how to get your machine to work, a gaming PC is extremely rewarding. Plus you get to show off how much better the latest game looks running in 2560x1600 with super-advanced DirectX features like uber-textures, shaders, post-processing, physics and full-screen anti-aliasing all running smoothly at over 60FPS compared to the measly PS3 version ;)

[QUOTE="Mitjastiskovski"]

DracuIa68
PS3 sold double that amount in the same time, so good points TC

There are alot more video cards to choose from than consoles. Not to mention the fact that DX11 isn't being used enough yet to make people want to upgrade...

In professional graphics market, drivers must certified i.e. drivers for FireGL and Quadro.
