PC gaming is dieing guys, AMD just shipped 2 million DirectX 11 GPU in the last three months. Yup PC gaming is officially dead.

AMD released their new DirectX 11 GPU in October last year and in three months they managed to ship 2 million graphics cards. Not bad considoring PC gaming is dead and that they had MASSIVE production problems which meant for the first month or two there were hardly any available to sell to customers.

PC Gaming is DEAD:lol:

Wow thats INCREDIBLE. I mean really lets remember no matter what peeps say this is an expensive hobby when you keep up with the latest Tech. I mean im running a 8800GTX / 4800 AMD setup and i can run everything apart from DirectX 10 exclusive games. But to ship so many GPUS....Right let me see the price. On overclockers one of the series is going for 347 Quid. Wow mega sales man.

PC gaming isn't going anywhere, but it's a misnomer to quote video card shipments as an indicator of the popularity of PC gaming. ALL PCs have a video card of some sort, whether it's ATI, Nvidia, on-board, or what have you. And obviously not everyone who buys a PC, builds a PC, or buys a new video card is a serious gamer.savebattery
Like people who buy the PS3 as a BR player?

[QUOTE="Screamteam411"][QUOTE="Nerkcon"]Only two million? PC gaming is a lot less popular than I thought. :(G-Lord
You're forgetting that this doesn't include any NVIDIA cards, or any of the directx 9, 10, etc. cards that people have. I sure as hell don't have a DirectX 11 card but I still play PC games.

I also think that many people are still waiting for the new NVidia cards before buying a DX11 card. The fact that it was almost impossible to get a 5800 for a long time didn't help either.

TSMC is having yield issues. Note why 55nm Radeon HD 4570 and 4650 was moved to 5100 series.

They make cards just for commercial modeling, you know?

In professional graphics market, drivers must certified i.e. drivers for FireGL and Quadro.

On top of that, they also use a lot of extra precision that can slow things down. In a game, the reduced precision is unnoticable, but in a CAD drawing, you'll be shutting down a very expensive production line while people call upstairs to ask if you really meant for that airplane blueprint to have a tiny gap between the wing and fuselage. ;)
