In november 2005 the Xbox360 was launched at £280...

Now lets say someone got a similarly powered PC:

X1900XT-the first GPU VERY similar to the 360 that could do HDR and AA at the same time.... and it was at £300

AMD 3800 x2-One of the reasonably priced dual core CPUs....started at £120

2gb DDR2 RAM- while still inits begginning the 553 version was decent...at £80

Now ill lump Mobo/Case/HDD/DVD/PSU/M-K/OS in one part since their price doesnt flunctuate that much....at £200

PS: The display is out of question since the 360 doesnt come with an HDTV...

The above machine started at £850 including assembly....

Now lets see what happened in the following nearly 3 years...

Lets say that in 2006 both the PC user and the console user BOUGHT 6 NON RENTABLE games (I mean games that have more than 5 hours of gameplay/a rarity in the console world) these costed the PC user £150...while the console user forked £300 plus £30 on XBL ....

In 2007 same story again £150 for the PC and £330 for the console...

By 2008 the console user had spent nearly £990 on games while the PC user spent £450....Lets see in total:

PC: £850+£450= £1300

Xbox360: £280+£990= £1270

In the above the console is assumed to be bought at DAY OF RELEASE amongst INSANE SHORTAGES and HUGE EBAY SCAMS....The RROD is NOT CALCULATED as NOT calculated are all the rip offs that take place in XBL as DLC....

Last I DARE any lemming to find a game that runs on the 360 THAT will not run on the SAME settings as the 360 on the above PC....

Not really. Easier access, but that's it.

And the wii is the easiest of them all!

i agree

plus how any games could that pc have installed on it before it started to slow down, plus all the install times and balla ache

cost isnt the only reason that makes console gaming better

Cost and ease of access.

I've already said that.

omg good point. srsly those calculations are bull. because a) who buys EVERY SINGLE GAME full price? no-one. B) a 2005 PC is not all it's cracked up to be... c) who on earth DOESN'T HAVE A TV?

I refuse to believe people who say console gaming is better have even played a pc game. Quite frankly, it is an amazing experience, but definately shouldnt be compared to console gaming imo(unless we're talking about franchises that have been "consolized") as they are both equally good.

Who on earth doesn't have a computer?

From this point, we can forget certain costs such as disc drive, HDD and monitor, and speakers and modens etc. And PSU, if you're lucky. And possibly motherboard if it's one without an integrated graphics card.

I disagree with a lot of what you said. I have a similar GPU and it doesn't run games nearly as good as my 360. Not to mention the prices for games are off. PC gaming is cheaper though, since you can just pirate all the games for completely free. And 5 hours of gameplay is not a rarity, every game has more than that. After I read that I basically disregarded the rest of your argument. Why would the RROD be calculated ever anyway? Its repaired for free. I also enjoy console gaming more, especially with xbox live because all my friends have it, and most people have a microphone to communicate with eachother. 10 hours of gameplay is definately a rentable game. Not to mention you can't rent games on the pc, although you can pirate every game, but then you can't play online.

Overall, I perrsonally enjoy playing console games better, but PC games are still very good.

Maybe even CPU if it's one of them newer 'Home/Office' ones as they're easier to overclock if you get some extra cooling.

1. Ever heard of unistall?

2. Installation takes like 5 minutes for most games with a x16 DVD drive like most people have. I have a x18 DVD drive.

your point A is moot because games on PC go on sale LONG before consoles games do... Company of Heroes a 2006 game which is a must buy is like $15 now. And Circuit City has sales on PC games every week... Infact, I don't know of a single PC gaming over 6 months old that is not $30 or less.

The only flaw is that each gamer buys a different amount of games. You have some that buy a lot of games in a year and some that don't. You have some gamers that get marginally new games used on Ebay or Gamestop, and some that buy them new. Some just get there games from Gamefly or just rent games, and rarely ever buy games.
Also,TV's are standard now...if you buy a console than there a 99.9% chance you have a TV...you can't say the same for a PC. You may say "Well, you can just hook your TV up to the TV." :| You tell me who in the world games on pc,or even just surf the net in 480p. You'll get lucky to find someone still using a computer with a res of 800x600,and HDTV's are not standard. I do believe less than 2% of the world has HDTV's (that was some years ago, maybe a bit higher now.).

I played 100% of my games on a standard def telvision while I was saving up the money to transition between a monitor and an HDTV. Its not like it degrades the picture quality too bad to the point of non-recognition.

If only we had statistics of how many people actually buy a monitor when buying a PC...or how many use a TV as a monitor.

Yeah, good luck with that. Even if you were able to find that a porportionally larger percentage use monitors, the TV would still be just as viable an option.

40% of the US has a HDTV, 30% in Europe.

Also, most people have a computer. Seriously, so they already have a monitor. It's not hard to keep the monitor, and upgrade your computer.

600p? Is that "BETTER"? Please get off the M$ PR BS....

Off what? £50 retail price....To shop online you need a COMPUTER....and if you have one then you just upgrade...

eonape

Oh and you cant pirate 360 games? hahahahaha..... Its much safer you dont even need an internet connection....As for game leght....OMG 6 hours gameplay!!!!! 8 hours WAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! PC games like M2TW have 700hours of SINGLE player gameplay....

Why would the RROD be calculated ever anyway? Its repaired for free. I also enjoy console gaming more, especially with xbox live because all my friends have it, and most people have a microphone to communicate with eachother. eonape

Because while its RROD you dont play anything....

I also enjoy PC gaming more, especially with Xfire because all my friends have it, and most people have a microphone to communicate with eachother. See?

10 hours of gameplay is definately a rentable game. Not to mention you can't rent games on the pc, although you can pirate every game, but then you can't play online.

eonape

10 hours? Is Oblivion 10 hours? Sports games that one plays? Racing games? GTAIV? There are at least 6 games per year that are UNRENTABLE....

You know you can pick up a 360 premium for £190 don't you?

PC gaming is more expensive, but there's a lot more a PC can do. I don't see why you keep trying to twist it.

Still more expensive on PC. I'm talking from experience here, check the sig.

Oh and GoW already has some antialiasing in so it's not necessary at all.

Just looking back I love how you twist every single thing.

You just ROUNDED UP to £990.

And that's assuming people paid £50 for every game. You're having a joke.

everyone has a monitor,
not everyone has an hdtv

so some might want to take the hdtv price into consideration

You know you can pick up a 360 premium for £190 don't you?

PC gaming is more expensive, but there's a lot more a PC can do. I don't see why you keep trying to twist it.

Just looking back I love how you twist every single thing.

You just ROUNDED UP to £990.

And that's assuming people paid £50 for every game. You're having a joke.

People without computers and people that dont steal from devs by buying used games....

Oh wait millions of dorks are being milked harshly in stores...

[QUOTE="mingo123"]BUT console gaming is bettervilla4europe

i agree

plus how any games could that pc have installed on it before it started to slow down, plus all the install times and balla ache

cost isnt the only reason that makes console gaming better

5-10min max for install times. games being installed don't slow the pc down unless the hdd has under 5gb free, and even in 2005 250-320gb hdds were common. installing the game is done once and takes 75%-90% off the loading times

I can pick up a pc with 8600gt, 4600x2, 2gb ram for $600nzd while x360 is $550 and then you save $30 per game

£40 is the cheapest retail price ( 1st hand, newish game ).

PC is anything between £17 - 24.

99% or the time its £40, sometimes £45 max. But £50? Maybe limited editions.
