I don't think most PC gamers care about music games. Would've sold poorly.
True, but Rock Band is kinda awesome. I would've liked to see a PC version where mods allowed for 'unsupported' songs.
Cloud_Imperium is missing the mark on why PC gamers wont buy this. Which is usually the case for him. Anyone who actually keeps up with the platform beyond just Star Citizen and AA games with 3D graphics would know how popular Osu! is, Stepmania has been going strong for quite awhile now as well. Both are heavily supported by a dedicated community, delivering custom content as well as a thriving competitive scene. Some of the best highlights from AGDQ were from PC rhythm games.
There's definitely people that would play rhythm games on PC, but for Rock Band? I love Rock Band, but it's just not the right game for the platform. Rock Band is played as a multi-user living room party game played on a shared TV. It's also a game that uses a dedicated perhiperal; on console, this is easy to distribute as you can easily package them with the software, but when you transition to a platform where everything is digital, there's going to be a problem actually getting these dedicated peripherals to people. This isnt just a Gaming Mouse, a HOTAS Joystick or steering wheel that have multiple uses - this is a dedicated perhiperal that you need as requisite to play a specific game.
Rocksmith works and is very popular on PC because it's more of an educational tool for personal use and just requires a cable plugged into any modern electric guitar. Audiosurf, Crypt of the Necrodancer and similar 'wave' based games work because its gameplay is dependent on digital audio files/data that you have and uses a keyboard just to play. Osu! uses a mouse and tablets have grown in popularity. Stepmania just uses arrow keys, i dont think anyone plays this with a dance mat even if you can.
