You can use a packet sniffer to see what files are being downloaded, spoof a download, and store them in a local Disk image. Then you can intercept the port call and feed it the files without connecting to the server.Ok have an idea, controversial, but it will work.
You install your game on the PC as usual, but it doesn't have all the files. certain key files (dll files) are on a server. So in order to play the game needs to load the files from a server on the internet. You can't pirate the game as pirates won't get their hands on these files.
However it does mean you have to always be online to play the game, and can not play it offline. But considering the broadband penetration you'll still have a fair chunk of people who can play your game.
What they could do is a year after release, release a patch so you can play offline.
What do ya think.

It wouldn't be hard to crack that either. You could probably just download the needed files and "connect" to the "main" server.
I don't think there is a solution fo Piracy, at all..
maybe death penalty if you get caught? that'll teach em! lol
You cannot stop piracy.
It will always be there.
Instead dont cater to the people who are going to pirate your game, give people reasons to buy your game.
All games are pirated, on all systems. Even things like Steam are completely futile at stopping pirates.

Piracy will always be a problem. It has been proven that there has never been a single piece of code without a backdoor or bug. Everything has a backdoor. It doesn't matter what system you use ; replication of files is easy, and hackers will spread real information and duplicate it virtually exponentially.
There are measures you can take to reduce piracy, but none to complete eradicate it.
