its the only example :lol:You can use mods on the PS3. For example- Unreal tournament 3.

Assuming you do care about mods to begin with. Right?siLVURcrossNo. Assuming you care about free videogames. I mean, if you don't like free videogames, fine. But you probably shouldn't be on this forum. Maybe you should pick up a hobby more in line with your interests.....do you like golf? Tennis? Shopping? This is a forum for videogamers.
Assuming you do care about mods to begin with. Right?siLVURcrossNo reason not to care. We are all gamers looking for good games right?? Mods like Forgotten Hope 2 are incredible and more indepth then even the original game.
[QUOTE="DJ_Headshot"][QUOTE="RadecSupreme"]its the only example  I'm very ignorant when it comes to mods, how do they work on the Ps3 and does Sony block it at all? On Unreal Tournament 3, the only PS3 game with mod support, you basically download the mods online, say off moddb.com and load it up on a flash drive or some other transfer medium that can be detected by the PS3, load it up and presumably play it. On every other game your mods are a waste of time because no other PS3 game detects them. Sony doesn't manually block them, the software presumably just doesn't support modded content. You can use mods on the PS3. For example- Unreal tournament 3.

Don't forget TEH ALMIGHTY LBP and Halo 3's Forge (or how was it called?).
No seriously, no offense. But there's just no contest.
I wish I could show off some videos of Starcraft/Warcraft maps or some random Source mod. Console players thinking those are mods makes me feel weird.
[QUOTE="siLVURcross"]Assuming you do care about mods to begin with. Right?AdamPA1006No reason not to care. We are all gamers looking for good games right?? Mods like Forgotten Hope 2 are incredible and more indepth then even the original game. You know, really, I don't know about this free game thing. I prefer spending $10 for three maps on World at War. It's how we console gamers do things, and we LIKE it that way, damn it! Keep your content to yourself, I don't want any of this stuff some Jr. Software programmers spent 12 months building just for my amusement, I prefer buying Guitar Hero Van Halen and Call of Duty MIlkage for the DS.
Some of us care about certain franchises and games that appear on the consoles but not on the PC, that's also a reason we play console games.
You can't get Zelda on a PC.
You can get Final Fantasy on a PC (ff7), but you have to play it with a keyboard mouse unless you install a console-like controller but then why not just play it on the PS1 to begin with?
You can't play Jak and Daxter on a PC. Kingdom Hearts. Ninja Gaiden. Metroid. Star Fox.
There are pros and cons to each one. Why can't they just "coexist?"

Oh, leave them alone.
People who has never played Cats 'n' Mices on Starcraft or most major Half-Life/Unreal Tournament mods will never understand.

Not only that, but since when is the pc considered a console? TC you so silly...:)
Can you name any major mods that the PS3 version does have?WRONG. urt3 on the ps3 as mods. Sure its only one game but what it means is never again can Hermits say that PC is the only platform with mods
13C
except pc is not a console... But yeah mods are part of the reason pc gaming is so great console users will come in and tell you "I'll play the game the way its meant to be played and pay money for DLC isntead" The concept of free user made content is foreign to them.DJ_HeadshotWhere do you get this assumption that it's completely foreign to us? Is it really that hard to comprehend that someone would have some knowledge of mods and still have a preference for the game as the developer created it? "You don't think like I do, so you must not know" is passed off as an argument waaaaay too often around here.

Given the arguments that most consolites use, "completely foreign" isn't exactly right.
"Transcendental reality" fits much better.
It's not a matter of "still prefere to play the game how the developer made it", it's a matter of people saying that they don't care or make it ludicrously obvious they have -never- even tried one.
No offense to any hermits, but I like playing the game a developer wanted me to as without wasting more time to mod and play again just to make it look different93soccer
This is what I was talking about, lowe. What you called mere assumption and generalization has now been proved.
No offense to any hermits, but I like playing the game a developer wanted me to as without wasting more time to mod and play again just to make it look different93soccerSo your basically saying you have no idea what you are talking about...
No offense to any hermits, but I like playing the game a developer wanted me to as without wasting more time to mod and play again just to make it look different93soccer
Mods can greatly extend the life of a game though... some are good enough to be legitimate games themselves.
No offense to any hermits, but I like playing the game a developer wanted me to as without wasting more time to mod and play again just to make it look different93soccerHere is a shocker mod makers are *developers* and they are using the *toolsets* dervived from what original developers used. You don't need to waste any time, let the creative people make something interesting, download it and judge for yourself. As there is no financial risk you dont have to expect the same drivel publishers have developers push out for releases. Now lets go spend some MS points on a map pack woo! VALUE.
FH2 sucks, project reality all the way man.... i mean a mod of a 2007 game that owns crysis graphically? how can i say no?12345678ewPR has great visuals, but I think FH2's are better. I would check it out if you havent already

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feature lists for my favorite mods.
Europa Barbarorum for Rome: Total War
Gray Wolves Expansion for SH3
Rise of Mankind for Civilization IV
Project Reality for Battlefield 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extended list of Project Reality features not in BF2
Multiple Crewed tanks and APCs of all types.
Effective, shoulder fired anti-air (stinger, SA-7)
Craploads of new weapons like the RPG, M240, SA80(L85), SKS, Mosin Nagant, stinger, SA-7
4x4 km maps (largest BF maps are 1x1 km and actually only use something like 60% of the map area.
Constructable fortifications (MG nests, foxholes, firebase that allows spawning, tank traps, barbed wire, anti-air launchers, etc)
Destroyable buildings.
Russian, Taliban, Iraqi Insurgent, Chechen, and UK factions all with correct weapons, vehicles and aircraft(For Russia and UK).
Remote laser targeting for guided bombs.
Deployable grenade traps and IEDs for Chechnya, Insurgent, and the Taliban and drivable suicide cars for the Iraqi Insurgent faction.
Randomly placed capture points to make the game more dynamic.
Bayonets
Incendiary grenades and Molotov cocktails.
Civilian kit for the Taliban and Iraqi Insurgents. Very useful for scouting as they cannot be shot without penalties. They can be arrested though.
3d Aimpoint optic for the M4/M16
Dozens of awesome maps
Supply trucks that can deploy supply crates.
There's loads more but I can't remember all of it.
Edit: Oh and game play changes and weapon balances are incredibly important too.
No more horribly inaccurate guns, no more bunny-hopping like toads on the moon, no more grenade spam, no more claymore spam, no more ****spam.
Limited kit selection(No longer are half your team playing sniper). Some kits must be requested from a supply crate.
Vehicles have a much longer re-spawn timer so there's a penalty for using them in retarded, wasteful ways.
Because of limited kits and kits that are required for doing certain things, there is much less griefing and teamkilling over vehicles. (Airplanes and Choppers require the Pilot kit, All armored vehicles require a minimum of 2 crewmen equipped with crewman kits.
it's easier to mod existing game than to build one from ground up. Especiallu since engines are expensive to make and license (altough UDK might change that). That said a lot of mod teams do go commercial eventually. Tripwire is the best example of that.why cant they get there own full verison game
gamer-adam1
Also..Project Reality (best mod for BF2 by far) team is working on stand alone game too

I was recently reminded of what a ****load of Source mods I've been missing out on over the years. I just kind of forgot there was such a thing as mods.

That's like saying console gamers only care about getting milked for map packs and gimped online.
Forgotten Hope is a shining example of why PC gaming is better than console gaming. It's massive, it's had years of effort put into it, it sports gigabytes of customs sounds, textures, animations, terrain, models etc., and it's free. Oh, and it continuously updates with more content, too (2.2 added a whole new theater of operations). It's easy to dismiss these kind of things if you've never really experienced them, but for those of us that have...we know what it's all about.
