Well yea, if you go into them with that mindset and constantly try to remove yourself from the experience.

I think games have much more potential to be scary than film and books for the same reasons games have more potential thatn those two in basically any other category, they are interactive, not a static/consistent experience for every person. Since one of the biggest aspects to horror and fear is the unknown, games can really shine in horror.

Downloading Cry of Fear. Can't freaking wait. Half Life rocks when it comes to Horror mods.

most definitely. hidden-source was one of the best horror multiplayer games ever imo. It's too bad the game pretty much died after 5-6 years. I also downloaded cry of fear last night, but probably won't get around to checking it out for awhile due to a huge backlog. The PC indie horror project SCP-087 seemed pretty interesting too - I have that downloaded but have yet to get to that too :( anyways...consoles still have some pretty awesome horror titles too, but the best ones tend to be import titles - like Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (fatal frame 4) and Ikenie no Yoru (night of the sacrifice).

I hated Hidden Source. Play as the Hidden was a pain in a ass, and when the rest of the players in a match insulted me that pretty much when I stopped playing. Loved Zombie Panic Source through and Nightmare House 2, Dear Esther, and Korsakovia were very good. Half Life 1 is even better IMO with Afraid of Monsters, Mistake-1, Paranoia,They Hunger, and now Cry of Fear.

Does anyone recommends Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting? I'm quite interested in this horror adventure game that was recently released. But unfortunatelly there isn't much information about it.

Slideshow interface... Meh, I'll pass on that one. I hate those slideshow type games.

I didn't think it was a pain in the ass at all...but then again, I was one of the better players at the game and I took the time to learn how to play as subject 617 over the course of a year or two. After you put some effort into learning how to play, being the hidden was actually kind of unfair - especially if you knew how to one shot phys kill with items. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the game.

Horror games are a dying breed from large developers. Horror games like resident evil series have long turned into action thrillers.

video games are not scary at all sorry.
