The PC can do many great things.

Very nice graphics.

Immersive play experience.

Great online play.

Cheaper games!

But overall, it just isn't very worthy to be entrusted with the task of playing games full-time.

Because of MAJOR design problems.

The biggest one is that new games won't work on older models.

I just got the latest DS game called Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. But not a DS Lite.

All I had was an old ugly DS from 2004 (ugh).

And to my suprise....I could play it!!!!!!

Same thing with mah new PSP game Star Wars: Battlefront Renegade Squadron. It worked on my old PSP!!!!!

But look what happens....

I bought a copy of World in Conflict. It did not work on mah PC!!!

WHY!?!

WHY!?!

THIS CAN'T GO ON LIKE THIS!!!

If you think buying a $500 video game console is too much, imagine buying a $500 graphics card every eight months!!!!

SOMEONE IS GONNA PAY!!!!!!!

This is just one of the reasons PC gaming should be fixed.

My video card was $250, I bought it in 2005. It still runs everything well at 1280x1024, even TF2, Supreme Commander, and WiC. I can also play games over a decade old, like Duke Nukem 3D, Fallout, and so on.

The 360 doesn't last long at all, that is why I am scared of buying one.

The type of unreliability TC mentioned is completely different than the RRoD. Did he ever say that PCs breakdown alot?

Try running Dark Messiah (buggiest game ever created) on Vista 64 bit, via steam.

I cringe at the very thought of it, it's the stuff nightmares are made of.

I got the point, but it has nothing to do with this.

PS1 and PS2 are two different gens.

A PC game from 1999 is the same gen as a PC game from 2009. Because they are still a PC game.

The custom gaming PC I bought for over 1k three years ago can't run BioShock and the same settings as Xbox. I think consoles have a lifespan much longer than three years.

World in Conflict not working is a problem with the game, not the computer. It's a known problem.

In fact, it's usually always an error on the game side.

PC's are more reliable than people give them credit for. The only reason you hear about so many problems is because there's such a large userbase. Of course you're going to hear about a lot of people having problems when there's such a vast amount of users. There's never a problem you can't fix unless it's faulty hardware.

I think the PC is a very reliable gaming platform..especially when I started building them myself..Doing research first and choosing the best combination of components you can afford is crucial to the longevity of your system..A little knowledge goes a long way with PC's..

so like xp =/= win 98, you know, cause one is running on the NT platform and the other isn't, right?

No, not like XP =/= 98.

Those are just OS. Not a system.

You change a DS operating system, the DS can still play the game, just a different way to get to it.

right now you can define pc by generations as well, but pc's get their genarations difned by games and not hardware while console genaration is defined only by hardware.

once a pc cant play a game anymore even on low resolution its dated, if it can its still on par with this generation, your DS can play DS games because it meets the requirements.

a 3-4 year old pc can run WiC, if it meets the requirements, its pretty much the same thing, if you own a GBA you will ned to upgrade to a ds in order to play phantom hourglass, so its the same thing

Not completely,it depends on the operating system they runon, and those operatings systems still have different structures, for example, Windows XP uses the NT kernel, while windows 98 didn't.

In my opinion, that isn't completely true, I think that you can define generations by the hardware, for example, dual core.

lol so games for pc should evolve its graphics without requiring a better hardware???, then pc gaming would be miles away from consoles since it would be basicly free, you would need to buy 1 pc for you entire life

But the DS is like the "operating system" in itself, but it's a physical one instead of a software one. If you made a game too powerful for that system to run, you'd have to design a better system. EG, playstation to playstation 2, just as an example.

i would agree but dual core hasnt affected gamming enough to be considered a gen, gpus>>>>processors for games these days.

you could consider DX as a generation but they dont happen as often as consoles are released and consoles some times goes trough 2 genarations using the same DX (or equivalent) as do pc's

GPU's are always ahead of games so they shoudnt be considered as genarations aswell, the best way i could think of is using Games since they are the ones that require gamers to upgrade their pc's.

if u cant afford to upgrade a PC then stay with your outdated console hardware for the next 5 years

This thread has more fail all over it then that cat in the picture.

You were surprised that your old DS could play Zelda? If you had any suspision then why did you buy it before finding out? Really?

But then again, you also bought World in Conflict before trying to find out if it would work or not. Those darn system requirements labels are just SO hard to find on the box.

$500 every 8 months? Sheer lunacy. Not even close.

The major problem with pc games I see is the bugs, although they get updated through patches, it makes me sick when a new game comes out I buy it and bam thousands of bugs need to be fixed, incompability and so on. At the moment, Vista pisses me really off with some incompability problems, sometimes even my games simply wont work in full screen the game launches goes to desktop (wont close) and I cant go to the game alt+tab... But I guess patience is the key, once the service pack arrives I'll be ok for a few years.

That's because... well... they are the SAME SYSTEMS! They are just re designs. and of course you can't play a old game on a new system. Are you going play a SNES game on the N64? The real problem is older game snot working after a new graphics card and OS update. Mods are great but when you MUST mod to get games to work well... that's just cruddy.

i can play many new games, not at high settings of course but if i go get myself a 8600 i can. currently i have a quad core and 2 gigs of ram. with a Geforce 8 series card, i assume i can run for another 2 years at medium settings at least. if necessary, maybe get a 2 gig ram card and make it 3 gigs.

I think the TC wasn't thinking when he was posting. So older PCs can't play newer games, why don't you try playing Gears of War on the original Xbox, let's see if that technology can keep up.

My main complaint about PC games is how it seems to be exceptable to fill them with invasive and anoyingcopy protection programs, some of them even cause issues with the game or confolic with other software and hardware. That and installshield. I hate the newer version of installshield. Every time I buy a game and wack it in and installshield comes up I say to myselft. Oh No, whats it goin to do this time. Youv'e got No idea what legnths of trouble I had to go to get Titan Quest Immortal throne installed.

Who the dickens buys a graphics card every 8 months?

Check the recommended requirements before buying a game, an upgrade every 3-4 years is all anyone needs to stay on top.

Just like how console games won't work on older models. Try playing Halo 3 on the original Xbox, MP3 on the GC, or Heavenly Sword on the PS2. I bet it didn't work, did it?

You don't have to buy one that often, and PCs do a bajillion times more things than a console so a PC is well worth the money.

SOMEONE IS GONNA PAY!!!!!!!

This is just one of the reasons PC gaming should be fixed. What are the rest? You said the PC had major design problems which is plural, which to me means you should give more reasons. Or CAN you?

That's why people build "overkill" PC's, so you wont have to upgrade for 6 years or so.

Overkill PC= Quad Core, 2x 8800 Ultras, 4GB dominator RAM.

My video card was $250, I bought it in 2005. It still runs everything well at 1280x1024, even TF2, Supreme Commander, and WiC. I can also play games over a decade old, like Duke Nukem 3D, Fallout, and so on.br0kenrabbit

do you mind if i ask what your whole system is? i'm thinking of buying the orange box for my pc but i'm not sure if it'll run it good.

i also have supcom and bought my video card in 2005 for about $250.

dude i bought my video card for 50 bucks and it can run world in conflict.

though i agree that the specs actually needed in pc's are far greater than they say, especially with vista.

i have 3 gigs of ram, and everything is still so slow it's bad

True, unless you're rich, PC gaming is only good for about a month.

Yeah I agree.

Whatever Pc I buy, it just seems that games are always buging.

Hell,it took me 4 month to finish half life 2 and all the Source games are glitching on my pc.
