[QUOTE="Merex760"][QUOTE="ProjectNatalFan"]

they delay for the PC because the console ports are their first prority.

ProjectNatalFan

Exactly. Because they sell more. But in the end the quality is better on the PC platform. I'll wait for quality. Most of these devs that do console development first started out as PC developers, and that's where their true passion lies. Without PC they would be nowhere, which is why a lot developers feel the need to do the platform justice instead of giving it a crap consolized port.

are you joking? GTA4 sold more on PS3 and 360 my friend.

Cause it had an initial 6 month head start? Is that seriously your counter argument? Is that all you care about is sales for companies for which you have nothing to do with? Do you care about quality at all? Plus, lets just completely forget the fact that the Grand Theft Auto franchise started on PC.

Hes talking about Europe as a whole and used Germany as an example:|

MGS Europe business boss Peter Zetterberg

"But in Germany for example,

:|

"If we launched a Halo game on PC and 360 in Germany simultaneously, 80 per cent of sales would be on the PC," he added.

[QUOTE="Mograine"]

[QUOTE="ProjectNatalFan"]has proven in the last 10 years to be in decline

ProjectNatalFan

Fine.

Prove it.

http://www.industrygamers.com/galleries/opinion-who-killed-pc-gaming/

arcs technica is very reputable, this isnt PCGA here, want more?

Then crap like this happens and it ruins your entire argument...

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starcraft2/news.html?sid=6274863&mode=news

Let us also not forget that digital distribution sales are not counted in any NDA numbers or really any sales numbers what-so-ever.

The "decline" in sales has actually been a decline in retail sales with a massive increase of digitial distribution sales. The most played game in the world happens to be on the PC (World of Warcraft). I'm not counting web games because that's not really gaming.

Sales numbers alone lie. Console gamers need to keep buying new games to satisfy their gaming needs because their old games start getting boring or the communities dry out. This isn't the case for PC gaming. Many PC games made 10+ years ago still have active communities. The people who really dedicated time to these communities aren't rushing out to buy the newest games, they are sticking to what they have.

If you actually spend time in the PC world you would know that the mentality is completely different. This is something I cannot prove to you with a link. The simple fact is you post without knowing what PC gaming really is. You take gaming on face value. Sales and numbers doesn't tell the entire story for the PC like it does on the consoles. Hell even on the consoles, sales numbers don't count the many retro gamers out there who stick to the older stuff.

If you truely love a PC game, you play it for many years. You don't just throw it away when the next greatest thing comes along. This is why there are MMO communities still playing Ultima and the first version of Everquest. Tell me... can you play Halo 2 online on the Xbox? Nope. Community died. Microsoft shut it down.

Different world. One that you continually fight for no reason.

That explains the terrible draw distance, abundance of glitches and PC Gamer claiming the best way to play is by 360. Frikkin PC Gamer.

I'm just responding to this one post, I have nothing against the rest.

Terrible draw distance, gilitches? I guess PC gamer hasn't played it since the latest patches. Works fine on my rig at max settings.

Well I never played the PC version, but thats their initial review. I chuckled a bit when they made a list of fun things to do, one was to lower the draw settings to play in a foggy Superman 64 world and another was to take out the guts of your system and put a 360 inside it and just play the 360 version.

At least his argument stirred up more people now. I was dealing with he/she for a while on my own and it was getting tiresome.

He/she often spouts things and rarely backs up anything. The most recent being PCGA is not a viable source. Even though the outsource research to individual firms such as JonPeddie (who build reputations on accurate/viable information).

I got a better FPS when I increased the draw distance. It would be good to actually play a game before you form an opinion about it though.

PC is only superior in certain ways, but either way, GOTY's are simply decided via a vote between GS staff. Many may prefer console gaming.

Ehh. GoTY's often go in line with what is popular and sells more. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of console games, but there are some indie games out there that should of been GoTY, and are hardly ever considered. Steam has a brilliant indie section with so many fantastic games that trump big budget titles, but lack the press, and are therefore overlooked. Hardly is it ever some little known title that didn't sell well on PC because of the lack of retail presence or press.

The fact that so many consolites here hate on the PC makes me really lose faith in gaming. You're the real reason why motion controls are taking over, Microsoft can get away with charging more for XBL, and game prices keep going even though variety decrease.

Why do we have Call of Duty number 7 on the way? Simple, console gamers. Console gamers never want anything new, they just want a revison of something that has already been made. Why do we have 13+ Final Fantasies, 4 Halos, 7 Call of Duties, 4 MGS, 4 DMCs, to many Mario games to count... The answer is just the console gamer.

That's fine. If you want to play Call of Duty 245 and Final Fantasy 9001, go ahead. It's threads and statements about PC gaming which really get my blood boiling. There is no just reason to HATE PC gaming. PC gaming is the last place any real innovation is happening. You name your favorite game, it can be derived from an early PC title by some small studio who had a good idea and had the means to turn that into a game.

The PC is where the new stuff happens, it's where the real changes are made to gaming. The PC is where the hardware is pushed to the limits and programmers strive to constantly program better and better stuff. The PC is the platform where indie developers can take a game like Team Fortress, a mod for Quake, and turn it into what we know it as today. It's the place where a single map can turn into an entire game genre that even is making its way onto the consoles (DotA, tower defense maps). It's the platform where the small sub-genres can live and thrive.

Why would anybody hate on this platform? It's the reason we have Halo, Call of Duty (which started on the PC no doubt), Gran Truismo, GTA... everything. The PC is the last free place to make games. The console really don't support any sort of indie game development. Companies charge tons of money just to get the development kits and licence games onto their platforms. Without the little guy, how can new ideas be put into games that really change a genre for the best?

All we got from console gaming is matchmaking and regenerating health. What we got from PC gaming and what we continue to get from PC gaming is changing what we play. The hate for the center of innovation and revolutions in gaming is alarming. This hate of PC gaming is what is stagnating gaming and turning companies onto things like motion controls and social networking in video games.

Holy crap. What an awesome post. One of the best things I've read on this board, and I couldn't of said it better myself. What you wrote is THE definition of PC gaming, and how people can hate it, I'll never understand. Console gaming also ushered in paid DLC, and the trend of $15 map packs, instead of custom community driven maps. Mafia 2 is a shining example of what console DLC has become. Two weeks after release, and there is paid content. Ridiculous.

[QUOTE="mystervj"] I don't recognize a lot of the titles, but torchlight is in there. lundy86_4

Yup, all full releases.

Shouldn't Torchlight be there?

That's more like a DLC, it's $20 on steam.

Torchlight? More like DLC? It's a fantastic game and would be worth $60. $20 for Torchlight is such a steal it's not even funny. It's one of those games that should of been considered for GotY but wasn't. Cause you know, MW2 etc. Torchlight is one of those games that deserved the attention far more than the bigger guy.

Torchlight is a full game :?

How does price dictate what is a full game and what is not? Especially when prices are reduced regularly, or for sales.

A $20 game should be compared with XBLA/PSN titles.

We should make this post a framework to use whenever this mindless bashing happens again.

It's too bad that it will be ignored and missed again :\

By the way, now that I notice it...

Review standard change according to the price of the game, limbo wouldn't get a 9 if it's priced at $60.

Wrong. This game had more playtime than most big budget console titles. It's pretty much Diablo. Why you classify games on price-point alone is completely beyond me. Review standard is not based on price, it's based on platform and other titles to be released on that platform.

This is a full release game. If you have a problem ask a mod.

Can you show me GS' review standard that states it changes dependant upon price?

Torchlight is an action role-playing game developed by Runic Games, released for Windows in October 2009.[7] The fantasy-themed game is set in the fictional town of Torchlight and the expansive caverns and dungeons nearby, which adventurers explore to collect valuable loot and battle hordes of monsters.[8] Following the October 2009 digital distribution release, a Windows retail box version was released in the U.S. in January 2010 by Encore, Inc,[9] and JoWood Entertainment published a retail box in Europe in April 2010.[1] A port for Mac OS X was developed by World Domination Industries and released through Steam[10] on May 12th, 2010.Development of the game is led by Travis Baldree, designer of Fate, and Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, co-designers of Diablo and Diablo II, joined by the team that developed Mythos.

That is not an independent title to the liking of Limbo and other XBLA/Indie Steam releases. It was published, boxed and had a retail presence. It was not an independent download only release.

It's just a spread sheet, there's obviously no forum rule restriction on such comparisons. If spread sheet draw the line between full release and XBLA/PSN games, then a similar implementation should be applied to PC games. As it stands, the information is rather skewed.
