but yeah, isn't a Mac a PC also? just with a different (less compatible with gaming) OS??

That's perfectly understandable. I go to college, and I bring my laptop everywhere, I need it to be durable. I don't really care about the .50 GHz or the extra 2GB of RAM. The MacBook Pro is an incredibly powerful laptop configuration. People have different needs when it comes to computers. You want power, and I want power+durability/dependability.
amen to that and I leave it at that and say that, you can have an extremely fast computer, but what about the other major flaws all Pcs have.

I am sure if we took both of those labtops listed in the later posts and tried breaking them, either one could break first. I don't see any special durability design on the mac. I would also rather trust the dependability of the other computer since it's pretty much made by ASUS and they've made millions of boards rather than just Apple boards. Experience=power+durability/dependability-This is where ASUS shines, I also forgot to add price into it.
[QUOTE="Guybrush_3"]Because macs are insanely overpirced.Bentham
Not really.
Yes really. Here in Australia, the 15" MacBook Pro costs $4000, while a Toshiba or Lenovo laptop with similar specs would cost $1600. This is just laptops, for desktops its even worse.

No it's not just a PC, it's evolution, pay for a PC 3 years old and it can still be capable of running the nextgen hardware. Buy a mac and it's like limited evolution in which ends up costing you more as well. When you state PCs have their flaws, you seem to fail to realize that MACs have greater flaws. Limiting the ability of expansion almost makes them no different than labtops. Once you actually build a PC and learn more about hardware you'll understand everything.

Id rather that than Apple marketing campaign generalisations ;)
don't get me started on macs
1 they cost waaaay to much, you have to buy a power mac to get a mac comparable to a average desktop pc, imacs are laptops with faster hard drives
2 you can't easily upgrade macs and that is a big problem
3 if you buy a imac you waste the monitor when you buy a new one
4 you have to use pc mouse to make a mac fully useable
5 they crash just as much as a windows based pc
6 the imacs have crappy monitors
7 windows has way more software support
8 have to pay stupied amount of money just to put more ram in
I could go on all day about why macs aren't anything special Until you can buy a imac for under $500 they wont become mainstream and until you can get a mac pro for a reasonable amount of money they will remain a niche market.
A average gaming pc blows the fastet imac away in every way, imacs are laptops that want to be desktops, A gaming pc is most comareable to the mac pro
problems with consoles
1 they are trying to be a pc
2 you need a hdtv to fully enjoy them now
3 games are stupiedly expencive (fallout 3 pc $100nzd ps3 $130-$140nzd)
4 you are charged for downloading additional content (look at valve all free)
5 they lack many of the advatages they used to have (great local mp etc)

It won't be long until you can play all the same games on a mac. They are already selling some very decent games for mac like Call of duty 4. I also can't see how not understanding some of you are. It's like you've been brainwashed your whole life to think Pcs are the way to go. So what If they can be customized. You can do whatever you like to try to cover up the truth that it's a PC. Current Macs get it right the first time and don't need a lot of customization.PlayaInDaHood
so? that just makes pc gaming stronger. until macs have decent gpu options they wont touch a windows based pc for gaming. I want to pick the cpu, gpu mob etc mac forces me to buy stuff I don't want. macs are pretty slow boxes that lock the user out of doing what they want.
[QUOTE="Bentham"]350 isn't insanely overpriced--and the MBP you linked me to is the older model. You definitely have to pay premium for it, but it's worth it for some.A lot of good laptops cost the same as Macbooks to be honest, Thinkpads for example are priced on similiar level and yet millions of people pick THinkpads over Macbooks. Price isn't the only reason why some people prefer PCs over Macs and vice versa

Thinkpads are a different class of PC's. They aren't for consumers, rather businesses. They are rugged machines built with the best keyboard in the business. Macbooks are made for consumers, NOT businesses despite what people think. Mac's aren't leased nor are they financially viable for a product which battery life drops down to 30 minutes after a year and a half of use.

Ok let me try this way "macs are insanely expencive for hardware they offer"
In other words, you can get same or bether hardware on pc for cheaper price

Apple pc's are toys for consumers, I was speaking with the editors of CBC live and they laughed at the idea of using FCP for editing. aVID, and self-written programs are what they use, and PCs only (Not just windows).

This man speaks the truth. Apple charges people an arm and a leg just for their brandname. When you buy a Mac, most of your money goes towards the Apple logo, and NOT build quality. Here in Australia, Apple charges $4000 for the MacBook Pro which has the same specs as a PC Laptop for $1600! How Apple can charge $4000 for a laptop with only 2 USB ports and standard hardware is beyond me.

What? The only thing that I can think macs are limited to is speed. Macs are more efficient. Listen to this: "Yes, PCs run at a faster clock speed than Macs, but they have 20 clock cycles per operation, meaning it will take longer to do an operation than a Mac running at 7 clock cycles per operation. PC makers have used this tactic for years, they thought that if they blotted the PC with gigahertz that the consumerwould be so dazzeled that they would forget every other factor."

PCs are cheaper.
And an open architecture. I can do whatever I want to my PC. I need to go through Apple to do the same thing to a Mac.
If PC's are on the way out I wonder why then all the console manufacturers are trying to turn their gaming consoles, those plug-n-play machines of fun, into PC's by adding updates, downloadable content, harddisk installs and other PC-like features?foxhound_fox

Consoles as we used to know them are dead, and this is just further proof that the Term "Console" is on its way out, and everything else from now on will just be computers.

No argument here, but the fact the PC CPUs are now as efficient makes this argument moot.

First of all, since when did Macs become the superior computer? I will take Vista over Leopard any day, not to mention the compatability I get with my PC laptop. More colleges and businesses are becoming Mac friendly every day, but there are still many that aren't.
Also, some games are much better on PCs than their console counterparts. FPS and RTS games are almost always superior on a computer because of the greatest game controller of all time: the mouse.
Finally, pricing is an issue with Macs. If I am a travelling salesperson, I will take a light, efficient, $600 PC laptop over a $1200 laptop with features that aren't even useful to me. Macs have their advantages over PCs, but, in my opinion, unless you are in graphic design, video/sound editing, or website entrepreneurship, most of the advantages to owning a Mac are useless to you.
Both PCs and Macs will become obsolete, probably within the next 20 years. Technology is improving so quickly that the next breakthrough idea is literally right around the corner.

Which is why adobe dropped the bombshell on mac for CS4? LOL
Good freaking luck getting the linux community to use Macs buddy, Mac OS may be a *nix based system, but that doesn't stop them from being a pile of.....well I think you get my point.
And Windows has been at the very core of the corporate buisness IT world for to many years to be dethroned by Mac of all things now.
Many major PC selling stores such as bestbuy don't even sell MACs.zaku101You might want to check with Best Buy before saying that. That's where I bought the Mac I'm typing this on right now.
And I have to say, my Mac feels way more like "my machine" than does my PC. There's not a lot of individuality in "oh, just grab the fastest Core 2 Duo I can afford, pair that with an 8800 GT, and shove it all in one of any number of hideous boxes on sale at Fry's". In contrast, my Mac just seems set up to work the way I think - stuff like the unified menu bar, Expose, Spaces, etc..

DynafromI find it hard to feel sorry for Adobe. Apple's been warning everyone that Carbon is a transitional API for some time. If they weren't putting in the work to port their front end to Cocoa, then too bad.
