I hope a lot of people did listen to it and that it keeps going. I kind of wish that GameSpot would acknowledge and feature this content, but I don't know if that would put too much pressure or unwanted exposure.

Much appreciated. Thanks for your kind words. When P2m was rocking we had a much larger community and podcasts would feature several community members on each cast sometimes! It really was an expression of love from the community. Heil and I had a rukebthat anyone on the board wanting to be on the show was in. Some people we reached out to and they didn't want in, others seeked us out.... Our goal was to be authentically system wars.

Fast forward to today and we're a fraction of the size... Things move a little slower and honestly the industry has nerfrd the spirit of the system wars as well... The spirit is still here and I still genuinely love looking at the front page of system wars.

We're gonna podcast once a month... Low key. I'm definitely still gonna mention system wars and talk topics on our front page, but it'll be something less board specific going forward.

@girlusocrazy: If GS acknowledged the existence of SW they would probably close this down after a couple of weeks.

It's amazing how we forum users care more for this website instead of the current owners of Gamespot.

From the constant closing down of comments section on the front-page, they seem to hate the gaming community in general. Viewing them as toxic and anti-proggresive.

Which, to be fair, we are.

On the plus side most of us will never breed thanks to a lack of social skills and sheer unattractiveness.

@uninspiredcup: they don't close down comments because they hate the gaming community. GameSpot itself is part of the gaming community, otherwise they wouldn't exist. They just don't want to let those toxic abusers spread their vile in places that can be seen, which is the responsible thing to do when you have a platform.

Yeah. On one hand leaks suck but on the other hand it's kind of an injection into the veins of SW and all the speculation is fun to watch. NDAs and managed messaging keep a lot of juicy stuff out of the regular game news. I don't know if the industry moves slower but a lot of interviews lack candid insight and behind the scenes stuff out of the discussion, and that's a big letdown for me. There's rarely any honest post-mortems on games too.

It's also true that corporate executives have kind of shamed "console wars" and promoted fake idealism that doesn't even align with their own realistic corporate goals. Console wars just used to be kind of "fun sport" and nothing malicious, so it's lame that kind of unnecessary party pooping came along. Everyone just loved games and that discussion was more enthusiastic, I'd say.

There are real dicks out there that took things to a whole 'nother level like swatting people you don't like, doxxing them, targeting specific game journalists and devs with threats, but that seems to be a general culture thing and not limited to games. People need to find better ways to deal with things.

I think that's the result of people taking things too far and actually hating each other over differences.

There's a real lack of being able to respect differences and still see each other as human beings. Instead of promoting that message, there's a lot of soapboxing that promotes an idea that somehow people are threatened and that will come down to some sort of eradication one way or the other, which is impossible and a logical fallacy. People will always have differences. Even if you somehow get rid of those differences, people will find other differences.

People want to live their daily lives, they have no time or, when it comes down to it, no will to exact plans to eradicate each other. But that talk definitely triggers the 0.001% of people out there who are insane enough to carry out that type of bulls***. And average trolls who would never do it are still ignorant enough to love cheering and amplifying that type of talk.

What a s***show.

Finally got around to listening. There was only one point where I really disagreed with the discussion. And it's surrounding the PC/open platform discussion. I really feel like the PC space was being misrepresented here. PC gaming is a Battle Royale, MOBA, MMO, FPS heavy space that otherwise has that mobile game saturation that you all were discussing. If the game isn't COD, CS, Fortnite, League etc it's gonna get lost in the crowd. Look at the PlayStation PC game sales. Look at the 3rd party breakdowns when they provide them. PC games dont sell very well at all compared to the consoles. So when @Pedro was discussing the port issues with bringing console games to PC he was only partially there. Of course PlayStation is going to port their games in-house instead of paying a 3rd party to port their games when they sell the way they do. And since PlayStation doesn't have their own store where they can keep all the revenue it makes no sense at all. PlayStation is only doing the bare minimum just in case the market moves in the way you all are discussing. Same with Nintendo on mobile.

Then there's the point @Heil68 was making regarding ease of use of consoles. There continues to be a record number of consoles sold. Games sell the most on consoles. This isn't a "old man wants things to be the way they were in the 90's" thing. We have no market indication that what you all are saying here is actually happening. Digital games have taken over. The market has indicated that. But gamers are spending record numbers on hardware to play games natively for the best visuals and performance. Spitting directly in the face of this "Roku for games" that was discussed.

Ah yea inject that nostalgia for better days of system wars into my veins.

The ease of use, convenience and cost of a console is always going to be attractive to a segment of the gaming space. Of course the PC is going to have the performance, mods and choice of accessories that consoles will never have.

Didn't even know there used to be a podcast, listening to it it's pretty good. I hope this becomes a thing! 👍

I was a bit bored and then I remembered this existed. I didn't really listen the first time around, so I thought it might be interesting to check this out and see how it aged. It's kind of unlistenable though, so I still haven't heard it. Needs audio compression, some people are really loud and others really quiet.

Anyway, any chance for an episode 2?
