So many people here didn't read the OP.... Will there be a huge difference BETWEEN THE CONSOLES not between this gen and the next... Anyway, no I don't think so.

So should people expect a much more powerful console than that of thus far the Wii-U?!

joojtzu
I can't think of any reason why they would. Development costs will be high enough as is.

I expect noticeably better but not drastically. I expect True HD 1080p on every game and no less then 60 FPS. Period Also the BEST thing most of you can do is buy a good TV. I went from my DLP to a new Plasma and OMFG games look 2x better. The colors are so much better. Plasmas are the best, period

I don't know what to expect. My guess is that all three will be able to share multiplats and I am guessing the Nextbox will be the strongest. I am hoping that I will only have to buy one console next gen but that doesn't seem likely. Most of my friends are on xbox live and I have to play the next Pikmin.

1080p @ 60fps is the expectation and pretty much the plateau.

Beyond that, you would need large numbers of people throwing out their TV's and monitors, and I don't see that happening.

current consoles can do 1080p at 60fps. The plateau is realistic graphics which are probably 5 console gens from now

I responded to someo ne who speaks as if all that matters is res and framerate. They can do 1080p with low res textures, weak shadows etc. Are you saying the 360 couldnt do the original halo at 1080p?

The graphics this gen are impressive already. What more can they do? You'd have to increase the resolution beyond 1080p on a 50" monitor to notice any improvements.

You want photo-realistic games now?

So going from 720p on a 50" monitor to 1080p isnt going to be a noticable an improvement? Even a game that doesnt take advantage of pc's power like MW 3 looks miles better than console. The first wave of games on next gen consoles will wow all the consolers without any need for going beyond what pc gamers have now.

It depends on what you mean by "large". The current generation of consoles is the first HD console generation, the next generation will mark the second generation of HD consoles so we can expect first of all that the consoles will be more developer friendly(considering how much money is spent on the R&D each and every year and how much the gaming industry has grown since 2005/2006) and much like with this generation, at the time of release, the consoles will be quite impressive even compared to the highest end PCs due to having direct access to the hardware rather than having to deal with hardware abstraction caused by having millions of possible system configurations which eats up some of the power. But even then, 1-2 years into the console generation, we'll have PC exclusives launched that will far out pace what the consoles could demonstrate(and what would likely be made with future PCs in mind) since technology advances very quickly, and in the span of 2 years, consoles can go from being twice as powerful as high end PCs to twice as weak as mid-end PCs and then people will start complaining again that consoles are holding games back, but hopefully this is all drivel, and the next console generation will be developer friendly enough to allow them to also properly develop games for the PC platform which advances on a monthly basis rather than every 8 years.

They could do 1080p but the games would be very poor.

No not just graphics, scale, scope, having all the graphics in HD would result in little memory left over for the rest of the game elements.
