People have seriously mixed-up views about "hardcore" and "casual

Core gamer actually just means the main fanbase of a system or game, core does not mean "hardcore". "Hardcore" is just a joke term that super nerdy D-bags use to look down on others so they can try and justify the lack of sex in their lives. Core simply means main fanbase, like 360 core audience are Halo fans, PS3 core audience are Uncharted fans, Wii core audience are Mario and Zelda fans ect...

Core does not mean hardcore. People get that confused. Hardcore doens't exist, core just main fanbase. No one in real life cares about wether a game is main stream or not.

Hardcore who knows a lot of about games and casual is someone who doesn't know much and just plays the mainstream stuff like Halo, COD or Angry Birds.

Casual - don't think of games as a hobby.
Hardcore - Does not exist.

My definition:

Core- Someone who cares about gaming, what is happening in it, and what is upcoming. Will not be scared off from playing good games because they have gimmicks or not-so-positive professional reviews.

Casual- Pretty much the opposite of core when it comes to what is happening in gaming, and trusting professional reviews for deciding if they will buy a game. On a side note, this is why I feel reviewers should be more objective and/or honest and display games that are not-so-well-known better. Casuals are also prone to buying flashy stuff, like PS3, and the Wii-mote. No, I'm not taking a shot at PS3/Wii owners, I'm speaking from experience.

"Core" and "casual" are industry terms used to separate two different demographics, they are quite useful in describing those demographics. That is how I see it.

Casual gamers are the guys who likes Nintendogs, Barbie games, and enjoy jumping and waving in front of their Kinect like an idiot.

Hardcore gamers are the guys who likes Uncharted, Killzone, God of War and sit on their ass with a controller in their hands and game like a real man.

I don't consider "core" and "hardcore" to be the same thing. Core means the core audience, you know? The people developers are out to impress, not just draw in. I picture hardcore as people who are just off-the-walls, bat-sh**, insanely skilled at games, those people who master fighters, and other difficult games, like Japanese arcade games, and bullet-hells.

yup, anyone who calls themselves a "hardcore" gamer is lame, i can't take them seriously. a true gamer is someone who looks at videogames as a serious hobby, invests in it and puts proper time and effort into it.

I said it.

"Hardcore gaming" doesn't mean "best graphics and M-rated", it means good skill at playing games.

One could be playing Angry Birds and if he were great at it he would be a "hardcore player".

Likewise, "casual gaming" doesn't mean "easy to pick up and play".

It means that you game for no real challange or achievement (i.e. for fun).

People should really stop using these terms all the time if they have zero clue about what either stands for (my opinion).
