Really? Is it even that big of a deal? Ive been playing my XBox a lot lately and I always kind of liked the ads. I like being kept up to date with movies/bands/TV/games etc... They dont really get in the way, I mean, Its not like it stops you from playing your game to show a 15 second video or anything. They are just kind of.... there. Some people really try to make some dumb arguments as to why PS3's online is better. Dont get me wrong, I do like the PS3 overall more just because of some of the exclusives I love but the online is just not as good. XBox's party chat makes a big difference, for me at least. And just the set of everything is just better. I guess that would be an opinion though since some people seem to like PS3's dashboard better but okay. The only thing PS3 has with its online is that its free, but honestly, I wouldnt pay for PS3's online if it made you lol. Well I might have to just to play littlebigplanet but thats it.

I think it is as much the principle as it is the fact they are there. MS are charging you for a service that pays for itself from Ad revenue (well, perhaps) They are earning add money, while you pay to view them..... That is pretty, fkn, sh1tty.

and i don't get how people seem to obsess over Live's chat. i talk to my friends over the phone or in person, and they don't play video games that much. PS3 is indeed for the older crowd, not some 12-year-olds who, after school, go to play CoD with their playmates from the school bus.

Basically the ads themselves are easy to pass over, they are not intrusive. But the fact that they are there and your paying for XBL, you really shouldn't be seeing them, especially considering MS makes money from the ads anyway.

I know for me personally the last thing I want to do when I come home from a long day and turn on a game console, is to see a bunch of ads for Old Spice or stupid tv shows like Jersey Shore or an ad for Katey Perry new albulm. All of which I have seen on my friends Xbox dashboard.

My dashboard is MY dashboard, I don't want stupid crap on there.

I talk to my friends a LOT on the phone, and I mean a LOT. I used to have 3-way but my new phone doesnt. I have a lot of friends from my highschool that have XBox live and we are always in a big party just chatting with eachother. Its fun lol. PS3 is for the older crowd because it doesnt have party chat? So you are saying old people dont like to talk to eachother? lol

"Is 60 bucks a year for something thats free everywhere else that big of a deal?

"Is having to pay a premium for something thats free everywhere else and getting ads that big of a deal?"

"Are those ridiculously overrated M$ proprietary accessories that big of a deal?"

"Is M$ not allowing devs to post free DLC over Live that big of a deal?"

"Is having next to no core game support that big of a deal?"

"Was M$ switching all support to Kinect that big of a deal?"

"Was RROD that big of a deal?"

Well well well lems, I guess not eh? It's not that big of a deal. For everyone else it's a pretty fkin big deal.

Some people have problems with concentration (like me). I get very distracted by advertisements and fear that they influence my mind with their nonsense. Do you have any idea how often you get lied to by ads? It can't be very healthy for society. So for me the cons outweigh the pros.

He was mostly generalising, however the PlayStation brand is older than the Xbox one so most of it's fanbase is safe to assume older. Also keep in mind the PS3 was more expensive than the 360, which is something that only an adult with a stable good stable income could have afforded in the first place.

Most 360 owners also had a PS2, but the only reason they went with 360 this gen was because they were either an adult on a fixed income, or a kid whose mommy and daddy wouldn't pay for the PS3 and got them the cheaper console instead.

On average, I would say there are more kids on 360 than PS3. Just go into an Xbox Live session and you'll see what I'm talking about. On PSN you come across more adults on average as well as people from different countries, which is cool because it's fun to talk to people from different parts.

The problem is that every other service in the world is either ad-funded, or paid by the user. Only microsoft are shameless enough to do both.

Well to each their own I guess, most 360 owners in SW will say it doesn't bother them, but if you talk to them in real life they seem disappointed because they have to pay for something and they still get ads, they feel that the ads should cover the cost or if they are paying then they shouldn't be getting ads at all.

It's not a big deal. In some cases, I'm glad they're out because they tell us when new games/dlc come out or when they have sales.

If it wasn't for advertisements, I wouldn't have even known magic 2013 came out.

If it's up to advertising companies they would love to be able to stream advertisements to your subconscious without it being a direct hindrance to your experience. Would you be ok with that happening automatically for future generations?

Yes, it is. And I'm not defending. I'm just pointing out that its a weak argument. Ads are absolutely everywhere. Its fine if someone finds XBL to be a rip off, but there is way better fodder to use against. Mainly, other services provide online play for free. Even then, the XBL argument is beat to death.

Well they would be in a way, but your consciousness would hardly notice. They just influence what you want and what you pick, and your consciousness would rationalize it like it's what you wanted all along. If you're not of principles I don't see why that would matter.

[QUOTE="clone01"][QUOTE="KungfuKitten"][QUOTE="clone01"] Hmmm. I paid to go to a concert last week. There were ads everywhere. Paid for a baseball game. Had to look at tons of ads.

Which is equally ridiculous though.

Yes, it is. And I'm not defending. I'm just pointing out that its a weak argument. Ads are absolutely everywhere. Its fine if someone finds XBL to be a rip off, but there is way better fodder to use against. Mainly, other services provide online play for free. Even then, the XBL argument is beat to death.

PSN is free, and yet it has no adds.

You're paying for XBL just to get ads. It's hilarious what Microsoft gets away with.

Interestingly, this is only true if you live outside the US. PS3 has a 'whats new' section and a news ticker. These have adverts on them, and is the first things shown when booting the console. You can turn this off in the settings, unless you live in the US. For some reason, US folk cannot remove the ticker. I have no idea why. Edit: Of course you are not paying for PSN, but they are still showing forced ads.

XBL is a better service overall IMO. The ads make very little difference for me. I dont mind paying for XBL nearly as much as I would for PSN.

Yep, it is. I'm not saying I agree with XBL use of ads, But a lot of things you have to pay for and sit through ads. I think its a weak argument. Oh, and.

How are those adds? They are all relevant to the ps3/psn.

[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"][QUOTE="IcyFlamez96"] Now THATS intrusive.IcyFlamez96
Well they would be in a way, but your consciousness would hardly notice. They just influence what you want and what you pick, and your consciousness would rationalize it like it's what you wanted all along. If you're not of principles I don't see why that would matter.

Thats completely different! lol

It is! I won't deny that. I was just interested and getting carried away. It got me thinking about the purpose of newborns, to feed the economic system. If their view deviates from reality that is not a big deal. Look at the shift of education; first the world view was the central point, and now landing a job is the drive behind everything a school does. Schools will say "philosophy is dead. It has been replaced by the scientific method." Your world view doesn't matter, the truth doesn't matter. What matters is the exact view presented to you. Any deviations from that view are punished by scores and social stigma.

It's like a modern American dream, to be fully subjugated to the whim of corporations, that are already placed above the people in law, politics and school material. If you frequent the forums, you will find western people to increasingly side with corporations, allow them to influence law and politics, but exempt them from ethics or knowing right from wrong. Corporations are the gods of the new generations. They don't have to make sense and people will obey.

:P I like just thinking about those things and see where the mind takes you even if you may miss like half the arguments that could be made. It's nice to challenge your normal way of thinking like that. Maybe something like Deus Ex is closer to our time than we think. Then I should really buy myself a cool leather coat.

It's principles. If I pay for a service why it must have ads?

Manatee? Anyway, I never have a problem with ads as long as they dont get in the way. Some ads are interesting. Keeps me up with DLC and games and that kind of stuff coming out. You hate them? Your problem, its not a problem for me.

XBL gold is a rip-off.

To get to Netflix, you need to pay an editional $60 just to get to it, which adds up to the netflix fee of $8 per month.
