You can turn those off...other than the little scrolling text on the top of the XMB which only mentions games, I haven't seen an ad on my XMB for anything in 2 years...

Manatee? Anyway, I never have a problem with ads as long as they dont get in the way. Some ads are interesting. Keeps me up with DLC and games and that kind of stuff coming out. You hate them? But the fact of the matter is that you're paying for something and still getting ads, while there are tons of services out there that remove advertisements as soon as you get the premium version of the product in question. And that's because a lot of people (very logically so) do not like ads. Not at least having the option to turn the ads off in a relatively expensive service such as Xbox Live is blatantly disrespectful towards the people who paid for it.
