Almost every game I have gotten this gen was 20-35 bucks and I have 23 games, I just got Uncharted 2 for 20 bucks ffs, I only paid 60 for 3 games (demons souls, Mirrors Edge, Soul caliber (regret that one)) and I think 40 for 2-4 the rest no more then 35, all you have to do is be patient and keep your eyes open

I think $60 is a reasonable price for a lot of games, though sometimes games are so crap that I think they should charge according to quality. lol. Personally, I'll give it a couple months and pay half price. The prices drop so fast there's no reason not to wait.

The problem is when games that cost $60 don't have the content to back up that price tag. And some people don't want to wait months for the price to drop.

Wii games and PC games usually retail at 50 dollars. But as you say, prices on games go down fast. Compared to many hobbies out there gaming is actually quite cheap.

Just like you I seldomly buy day one Not because they are too expensive, but rather because I have no need to buy them day one.

As long as the game is quality and has plenty of content I don't mind paying £40 ($60) on release day.

I don't buy a lot of games at full price, either, but it still annoys me that developers are content to release a game that you can finish in ten hours, with little or nothing to do outside the main campaign, and expect us to pay $60 for it.

I haven't purchased a game at full retail in several years.

I understand why people complain about the price, but I also have learned a bit of self control. I wait months to years to get the games I want at a massive discount. If you know there is a game/s coming out in the future, save your money, and get them. If you can wait, then do so.

I rarely buy games full-price; partly because most games I run into aren't even close to being worth their price tag.

Well it depends on what the game offers. I didn't mind buying BC2, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, LBP2, GT5 and a handful of other games full price.

The ones I did regret buying for $60 (Killzone 3, MW2 and a few others) I still got 35-50 bucks selling them, so it wasn't all bad.

Your so right, I'll only pay full price for a game I'm really excited for now

I just picked up De Blob 2 for 12.99, Sonic Color 22.99 and LBP2 for 34.99

I bought Dragon Age 2 at full price, its now 22.99, and it not even out that long games go down in price so fast I'll be doing alot more waiting from now on

I have bought almost every game I own this gen (48 games) Day 1 for $60. I don't know why it took me so long to realize that I can wait 2 weeks post launch and get it off Amazon for about $10 cheaper. I have all 3 of the Assassin's Creed games and have learned that their prices depreciates pretty fast. I got AC: Brotherhood back in December for $35 and I had only been out for a month.

Now that I'm switching to PC Gaming, I have tons of games that I can go back and play super cheap. So far I've bought 7 full games and it has only costed me $85

Unless it's a game I must have, and I know I'm going to play it immediately, I just wait for a price drop or for a deal to show up on Amazon.

That works for single player games.

But in a highly competitive MP environment, you need to get the game day 1 to be successful, or you're going to be seriously behind the curve.

That doesn't excuse developers giving less than 10 hrs of game time on game that is $60.

And the only time I really see people complaining is when the game was too short or didn't feature enough content.

I'm going to pick out Alan Wake for example, it is a good game, but the campaign is only 8ish hrs. And other than replaying the campaign again, there is no other content. Do you think it is alright for a developer to charge $60 for only a 8 hr singleplayer?

Or on the same day someone could have picked up Red Dead Redemption for the same price and get 10-12 hr campaign, plus multiplayer. And the fact that it is open world means there is more to do than just the story.

I do however get your point, I think some of that though is just for the sake of complaining. Or it could be a legitiment complaint.

For once I kind of agree with you, but that's mainly because it takes months usually for a game to get to $60 here.

Yeah, physical copies go cheep quick... usually in a year they drop $20-$30 for bigger named games and up to $40 for lesser titles.

But here's the catch DLC for these games almost never budge and if you check on line (PSN, XBL) your going to see full version game down loads higher then physical copies 90% of the time.

Doesn't change the fact they are 60 at launch. I mean I've started holding off on buying day 1 now, but still doesn't excuse the fact that the games are overpriced.

I don't have a problem with the $60 pricetag. Neither from my side (I find it's a good value if it's a game I like) nor from the publisher's side (games have become very expensive to make and even more expensive to advertise). As the OP said, if I think a game is not worth the 60 bucks, I just wait for a pricedrop.

With the exception of games with a heavy online following (Halo, Killzone, COD, etc.) it's much better to come years late to the game and play $20 each game. I've been doing that for years and am able to game for much cheaper. I do occasionally buy new games on impulse though.

After many day one purchases, I decided to wait since I can get games cheaper on amazon and ebay within a week.

Even though I got Mortal Kombat on day one, I paid 52.99 thanks to getting 10 bucks off.

That's what I do with other systems and games. Stick with one main console then when the time comes get the other plus the plethora of games available at a nice cheap price :) I was laid off not to long ago so when I get a job again I will be on my way to getting a 360 and a Wii. Would have had a Wii but the day I was going to get one I found out I was laid off.

I really do get your point but the less people that think it's worth it the sooner it goes down, so the market evens itself out that way I mean uncharted 2 is still like 40 everywhere after a year and a half I only got it for 20 because it was in the clearance bin by mistake at future shop (I think they automatically put it in after a certain time or something but then it got taken off) and the guy actually went and got all of them out of the bin and ripped off the stickers while waiting for the manger so he could sell it to me, so again consumers just need to be more aware in that regard

Actually the price goes down, and the games might go down a bit, games are more likely to go down hill if people swarm out to buy half assed call of duty like games or you know call of duty itself

Yup, and the sad thing is they don't make many of them... Some times they even sell DLC on a separate disc. Physical will almost all ways been cheaper.

It's really the only time I buy DLC... If it's on a disc.

I always think it is funny when this topic comes up. Those here that bought games like Chrono Trigger or Phantasy Star III know all to well that games have always been expensive. If you think spending $60 on a game now is spendy try buying games in the early 90's at upwards of $100 when reviews were not as easily found. Back when I was getting NES games you based what you bought off of how cool the box art was and not what a review or others opinions could help you with. I don't know how many crappy NES games I got at full price that were so worthless.Think of how much $100 from 1992 would be compared to now. When I think about how may cars I washed or lawns I mowed as a kid to buy games it is nuts.

I do agree that there are games that are not worth the money but again that's what the internet and magazines help with now and let you know of a games positives and negatives before you buy.

Most of the people who complain about prices weren't around during the 8 and 16 bit days or did not buy their own games then and do not realize that the inflation of video games and consoles really has not been that bad.

1986- NES realeased at $250 and $199 depending on the set you bought.

$250 in 1985 is equivalent to $490 in 2010.

So when I paid $100 for Phantasy Starit was like spending about $150 today.

$60 for a game in 2011 is not too bad if you do your research on said game.
