After reading the "best FPS thread" and seeing Golden Eye nominated instead of Perfect Dark is a disgrace.

Everything about PD is better (except being a james bond game)

Even the other titles that didn't live up to their originals (PDZ >>>>> GE Rouge Agent)

Please, vote for your prefered game!

PD. If I had a choice to be stuck on an island for the rest of my life with either PD or Halo 3, I would choose Pd in a heartbeat and without looking back.

To be honest, PD was a better game then Goldeneye, but Goldeneye was the original, and it has a nostalgia factor with it that alot of people cant forget.

And to the person that said they'd play PD over Halo, well.... I dont know when the last time you played PD or Goldeneye was. I popped in Goldeneye in my 64 a month or so back, and let me tell you... the control set-up in those games is just painful. Back in the day, we didnt know any better and loved it, but by todays standards..... its just pretty painful.. :P

Perfect Dark is spiritual sequel to Goldeneye.

Of course it will be better. Take same gameplay engine and improve it.

However because Goldeneye came out first I see Goldeneye as more significant game.

yesterday ;)

At this point in time. If xbox live were to allow PD for download, I would buy a 360 in a heartbeat. If I could play PD with updated controls, there would be no reason for me to play any other console FPS. Same goes for the Wii. If it were available for the VC, I would buy a Wii just for the game. Yes, it's really that good.

This is not even a debate. Perfect Dark is better than Goldeneye, Hands. ****ing. Down.

Perfect Dark had a better singleplayer campaign. A more diverse weapon loadout, bots in Multiplayer, bringing the total number of players allowed per game up to 12. ON THE N64. It had co op. It even had a mode that is perhaps the biggest twist on the Co op framework in a shooter (or any game for that matter) called the Counter Operative mode in which the second player assumes the role of all the enemies in the level, jumping from foe to foe, attempting to take down the first player (who assumes the role of Joanna) before they can complete their objectives. It was amazingly fun to play.

Perfect Dark should go down in history as one of the best FPS's ever created. Goldeneye gets more praise simply because it came first and had an iconic character in the form of James Bond that damn near everyone knows about. It's really a shame PD didn't go on to sell 8 million on the N64 like Goldeneye did.

Its a great game and a classic like Doom. Please dont say that the scripted enemys and the N64 FPS control set up is as good as modern console shooters. Without 007 and PD, there would prolly not be console games like Halo, Black, and Killzone, but console FPS have evolved quite a bit since those games blazed the trail.

The only reason either of those games were nominated was nostalgia. If you took an unbiased standpoint and broke down all FPS's into specific categories (graphics, story, gameplay, AI, Multiplayer etc.) only games released within about 1 year period of the poll would be able to win. Its a simple fact, new games are inherently going to be better than old games.

Goldeneye made me get a N64... Perfect Dark kept me playin it. In terms of overall quality, it is not even close. Perfect Dark smokes Goldeneye... it took what GE accomplished to the next level. In terms of originality, Goldeneye is the winner, but not by nearly as muchas the previous comparison. Goldeneye was for its time, the best FPS ever made.

it doesn't matter. we have distorted views of the issue. you will argue A and I will argue B. not one of us will actually listen to each other. I will say innovation and re-invention and you will say superiority. it will continue to go nowhere.

the onlyFPS that has had multiplayer that I like better than goldeneye or perfect dark is TimeSplitters 2's. there is something about those crazy weapons and clunky control scheme that I just love.

Perfect Dark wins some nostalgia points due to this minor crush I had on this girl in primary school who use to bring her N64 to our house several times a week for Perfect Dark Multiplayer.

Perfect Dark owns Goldeneye. It's the best spy game ever with Syphon Filter in behind.

I didn't know about a game mode like that :o

And i think that Goldeneye might have had moar weapons, alot more infact. PD64 was still better though.

please do not even bring halo into this debate, halo isnt even in the same league as pd and goldeneye. it cant even compare because itll never be as good as these games were.

fear and hl2 are fps for pc, they cant be in the argument, this is console fps. and before you say fear was on colnsole, fear was on pc 1st then came to 360.

Golden Eye was the definitive title of bringing FPSs to consoles. We really can't disgard that. It done it well too.

I honestly love PD far more than any FPS I've played sor far. Even though I get to mow down people with a Manta, Flak cannon people squarly in the eye and Spider Mine camp where ever possible in UT2004, it just doesn't give the same feelI get placing a timed mine on a non suspecting simulant entering a room full of other sims, FarSighting people from a consielded area, grinding guts with the raptor, being disamed by a high level PeaceSim, an tranquilizer here, an n-bomb effecting many if not all within a radius, Laying a hidden laptop gun and continuously combat knifing a firend to death until their vision can't tell between a wall and the ledge to impending doom.

... :)

Halo does better than combat than both games and offers more frantic & explosive firefights than both games.

Are the people here voting extremely young or just ignorant?

Goldeneye wipes the floor with PDZ, and then some. PDZ isn't even in the same league. PDZ was just okay; Goldeneye was revolutionary.

Golden Eye was for consoles at the time. It had a great single player campaign, 4-player multiplayer, well crafted levels and weapons to boot.

What PD did is was... Wait! WTF?!?!?!?

Did you... Did... You... HONESTLY think we were talking about Perfect Dark Zero?

From the words that you used to call Perfect Dark not frantic is quite laughable. I think my first post above covers how frantic it can get.

Its pretty goddamn sad that all we hear about is "Jump In" and "The next gen" from Lems but they resort to comparing their games to decade old N64 stuff. Don't get me wrong, I loved Golden Eye as much as the next man but for Christ's sake, time moves on and the FPS genre has evolved immensely! Compare PD:0 to Half Life2 and have a nice warm cup of STFU.

Ummm yes. The question is have YOU played them? :s

Yes. Yes I have.

From the words that you used to call Perfect Dark not frantic is quite laughable. I think my first post above covers how frantic it can get.

more=/=not I'm not bashing PD in anyway , I loved the game to death.

TBQH I was just comparing the SP component of Halo & PD. PD plays like a spy shooter with objectives

whereas Halo is just kill everything you see & survive. I just can't recall any moment in PD or GE where

half you have two enemies fighting each other with dozens of bodies flying over the screen from any direction left & right

as grenades detonate one after another. Actually truth be told, I only remember dual cyclones, farsight & a sluggish framerate on 4p.

[QUOTE="Ninpo_Osa"]Its pretty goddamn sad that all we hear about is "Jump In" and "The next gen" from Lems but they resort to comparing their games to decade old N64 stuff. Don't get me wrong, I loved Golden Eye as much as the next man but for Christ's sake, time moves on and the FPS genre has evolved immensely!

Compare PD:0 to Half Life2 and have a nice warm cup of STFU.Teh_Stevz

Ah! I see you're another one not on the ball. Perfect Dark. Not Perfect Dark Zero.

My bad... I quote for my own self ownage.

people didnt play PD and golden eye for single playr any more than people played halo2 for single player. Its all about the multiplayer, and I think that 007 had the better multiplayer.

it's not much much better .. just a natural progression .. better graphics (better blood), better AI (kung-fu!), better multiplayer and better overall presentation (cinematics, voice acting etc)

but i still can't decide a winner .. i love goldeneye for being the original, for being a good example of a game based on a film, and i like the realism better than the sci-fi world of PD

I loved both but Perfect Dark is better. Bots and running around as an alien FTW!

Perfect Dark Multiplayer has....

  1. More weapons
  2. Bots
  3. More levels
  4. Better weapon change system
  5. Ability to order bots
  6. More game modes
  7. Actually customizable ability
  8. Create a character
  9. Secondary Gun Functions
  10. Disarming
  11. More innovative weaponry besides points and shoot.

Perfect Dark Campaign had...

  1. Co-Op
  2. Counter-Op
  3. and an original Story

Perfect Dark was everything Golden Eye was but better and more fleshed out. Its not even a contest. I don't know how anyone could like Golden Eye better. Perfect Dark is superior in every way possible from a gameplay standpoint, its not even a contest. Sure Golden Eye was more popular but it was not a better game. What arguement can you make that Golden Eye was better other then you like it better?
