If you own a ps3 and like JRPGs, but haven't had the chance to play this game, go play it now!. TURN-BASE HEAVEN. It's not however a HD-remastered game, so be prepared for the good old SD ps2 goodness. The game is only going for $9.99 which is a steal for a game of this calibur. I you like it, I might even recommed the P3P for psp/psv which adds a lot of gameplay features while conpromizing other small gameplay tweaks and a lot of visual presentation.

I recommend the FES edition to the new-comers because it is a better starting point of the re-introduction of the persona franchise. It's true that overall the added gameplay features of P3P adds more depth and flexibility in the gameplay aspects of the game, however you can't ignore the stripped down presentation elements of the original ps2 version. It's the overall best package for new-commers.

Part 4 is a ps2 game only as of now. But we know that the psv version tittled "golden" is going to be released soon. This version adds new things to 4 the same way FES and P3P added to the original 3. Gelden may even come to the ps3 at some point, so wait for that.

Only get it if you can't get the PSP version for some reason. Sure you miss out on anime cutscenes and the graphics are a little worse, but they're not fantastic to begin with, the art design still comes across, and you don't have to walk around tedious areas. Plus you can control your individual party members, which I can't imagine playing without. Well, I can, but it's not pleasant (Akihiko, this guy is weak to electricity I would not mind a Zionga right noWHY ARE YOU PUNCHING HIM HE'S IMMUNE TO THAT). And apparently the Answer dungeon is way too tedious.

But it's the game that got me into SMT. I'm going back to play Nocturne now before P4 so that I'm not one of those guys. :P

So get it if you don't have a PSP.

Apologies for doublepost, but seriously? I thought Atlus said they weren't doing a FES-ish version of 4 aside from on the Vita >:I

Dammit and I just bought P4 too.

Yeah, no kidding. Let us protect our children from Disney films as it blinds them from reality. They should just learn how to make future wars instead!(yeah I went there).

I wish they would put P4 on PSN, since getting a copy is pretty expensive right now. Still worth it, though.

It's very possible. psv can remote play games with some ps3 tittles, so a ps3 stand alone version can happen.

Play on the normal difficulty setting first. Also try to master the battle mechanics and flow of battle as well as aligment weaknesses first, before you actually get to the fundamental parts of the persona fusing part of the game. And try to avoid game guides for your first playthrough to get a good first experiense. Disclaimer though, if you don't like grinding in RPGs, you'll have some hard times with the game. Though the battle system is very fast paced compared to other turn-based games.

Play it then come back. It's not like most JRPGs are open-world in the first place anyways.

I formed my opinion after playing a solid 30 hours. I understand games in general are repetitive as a whole, but persona 3 takes it over board. Dungeon structure is far too repetitive for me to bother finishing

Most JRPGs are constrictive by nature in the first place. Not many of them have open worlds. Some of them give you big lush backgrounds, but you'll never be able to travel through them, except in narrow corridors spaces such as the dungeons in Persona 3. What this game is about, as most other JRPGs, is the combat and the story with its emphasis on characters. It's also packed with A LOT of sidequests and side content if you really want to go deep with it (no pund intended).

Yeah I know, this thread was more guided to the people who haven't played these games. Although in these games you really don't need a "party" especially in the default settings, however it only applies to experienced players.

DDS games are not on the PSN, and persona is somewhat differnt from those games even if they do share a lot of similarities. Story, setting, tone, some gameplay-spesific features, dungeon design, character progression, etc. Different game franchises, though both are excelent. SMT games in general, especially on the ps2, are all must plays for JRPG fans.

Persona 4 is a great game and better in every single way. 3 FES is a mediocre game that gets way too much praise because it's "Baby's First SMT".

Well, P3P is more for the fans. I'll always recommend the console version of P3 to any new-comer to the franchise. P3P does add a lot of gameplay changes in significant ways, and makes the overall game progression faster with less loading times and other hassels.

There's nothing "baby" about 3 or FES at all. If anything, P4 is the baby one fr simplifying a lot of the features in P3. Plus the art style in 3 is IMO superior, as well as the story and music.

lol is this a joke post? Have you played any other SMT games? Persona 3 FES and 4 are VERY dumbed down compared to past games and they're worse off for it.

I'm curious, what exactly did 4 simplify from 3? Adding full party control?

Almost all of the SMT games are dungeon crawlers. No scratch that, almost all ATLUS games are dungeon crawlers. It's an adquired taste, same reason why FF games are more popular than aything SMT. Even when, the SMT games have better, more engaging battle systems than most JRPGs.

The overall difficulty of 3 was toned downed in 4 as well as things like the "TIRED" systems were completely change. Things were more stream-lined like only introducing "one" physical attack type, and other things like skill cards, which made things that much easier. The dungeons themselves were much more simplified compare to the tower of P3 and FES. It seems you're unexperienced with these games.

Truth. As far as ease of use: P4>P3>DDS=Nocturne.

[QUOTE="edo-tensei"][QUOTE="Aljosa23"]Persona 4 is a great game and better in every single way. 3 FES is a mediocre game that gets way too much praise because it's "Baby's First SMT".skinny_man_69
There's nothing "baby" about 3 or FES at all. If anything, P4 is the baby one fr simplifying a lot of the features in P3. Plus the art style in 3 is IMO superior, as well as the story and music.

Ignore him, he just likes saying controversial things for the sake of it. Probably going to write for IGN one day

Yeah I noticed that already, but I don't want people who haven't played P3, FES, or any persona game for that matter, to get the wrong impression.

It seems you're unexperienced with these games.edo-tensei
None of that is simplification, it's simply change. :|

Arguing about the differences of 3/FES and 4 is a lesson in futility since it ultimately doesn't matter. Those games are hugely dumbed down from the god game SMT: Nocturne and its disciplies DDS 1 and 2. lol the Persona games even have a lame battle system that pales in comparison to the Press Turn system. Nevermind that the actual artstyle in Persona 3 and 4 is meant to appeal to Japanophiles and otakus and can't hold a handle to Kazuma Kaneko's amazing designs.

lol your last line is pretty funny. Questioning my credibility because I don't circle-jerk the Persona series like others, lol.

I too enjoy nocturne and DDS better than the persona games. However, it seems you have a personal thing against the persona games after 3 after reading your last post. You seem mad that the art-style of the SMT games have changed as well as the gamplay and flow of the games, which in a way is understandable. However, don't scream your ignorance and bias like a kid when I sucessfuly proved to you that P4 is simplified from P3, especially when you explode for no reason other than to troll my thread because of that personal bias.

Everybody should grab this its like the best video game ever, don't get thedowngraded PSP version first, it really hurts the experience and is inferior in every possible way

Once you finish this get Persona 4, don't bother with crap like DDS or nocturne they are mediocre games
