It's fact that there is going to be a next gen Persona :Paaronmullanespecially since its on both sony's cell site and sonys japanese site.
No that would be Suikoden. Correction: Suikoden is first. If so, congrats sony. This is the 2nd best rpg besides final fantasy series. Argurably have been better recently. BUt this isn't what I call confirmed. Still a huge rumor

Suikoden could be, but there was that awkward number jump they went straight from Suikoden 3 to Suikoden 5, I wonder why there was never a 4.If so, congrats sony. Suikoden isn't really that great.
Suikoden isn't really that great.hakanakumonoBased on what standards? Originality? Story? Unique gameplay? Music? I doubt any rational person could make a case that the music in that game was bad.

Yes it is. First 2 might be outdated for most people, but 3 and 5 are both exceptional.I've played them both. Yes, they're great games. But they're far from "the best" imo. III is by far the highlight of the series though. And yes, I own 2.

Story, gameplay, music. They're all "good." But they're not beyond"good" imo, except for III. The story in III is great.
Story, gameplay, music. They're all "good." But they're not beyond"good" imo, except for III. The story in III is great.hakanakumonoThe story of Suikoden is probably one of the deepest video game stories, next to Silent Hill, that we've ever seen. It has some of the most varied side stories with many of the most compelling character interactions that you're bound to find in games. The whole decentralized plot is probably one of the most unique methods of story telling that we've seen in video games as well. Far too often do we see games focus primarily on a centralized evil character. The Suikoden story is both deep, enriching, based on a solid foundation (The Water Margin), and employs a wide variety of literary techniques which are above and beyond most other games. As far as gameplay goes, it added many different types of styles including strategy, tactics and the traditional turn based elements with more depth. The trinity and buddy systems in the game added depth to character layout and the sheer ammount of characters that you could choose from created a significant ammount of choice. The sheer ammount of creativity in the gameplay is unrivaled by any other JRPG on the market, and the new elements that it added are above and beyond. As far as music goes, it borrows from an ecclectic mix of traditions; celtic, persian, mongolian, nationalist, etc. It is also composed by one of the greatest composers in the video game world. The music isn't as good as the stuff that takes place in Silent Hill, but it is definitely the definitive music of the JRPG genre. About the only JRPG that comes close in music is Wild Arms.
I'm surprised they're not taking the Wii route. Persona was never about the graphics, and the Wii has a huge install base. Not that I'm complaining. I can't wait for the next one, and if it's any game that'll convince me to buy a system, this is it. (Should the rare event be that it'll be exclusive to Wii or 360)
I'd rather not have the Wii route, Persona 3/4 graphics were sub-par for the most part, I'd like a big jump going from 4 to 5, its true that it isn't really about graphics, but its not like I'd mind getting it on PS3 in HD over Wii with obvious but minor improvements to the previous ones.I'm surprised they're not taking the Wii route. I think releasing like 3 titles a month, even if mostly niche, means they can't be too poorly off, localizing is a lot cheaper then making a game from scratch, so i'm sure the profits build up over time.[QUOTE="ActicEdge"][QUOTE="bubbleboyii"]

This isn't a hard thing to figure out though, give me a minute and I will just check their financial statements.
EDIT: So what I have gathered is they had some massive loss from 2005-2007, then profited a bit in 2008 and they are back down again in 2009 so far. This is rough though.
My gut is telling me Persona 5 will be announced for the PSP. I mean seriously Persona 1 and 3 have both got remakes on it so It seems to me that the they're becoming testing grounds. :P

Its not listed in an official Atlus report which is why I said it was rough(which is strange since I normally can find these easily, I thought they were suspose to be openly public???) but if you just type in Atlus Financial reports in google and search all the links in the first page you should be able to piece it together. One of them had a little chart as well.

If this is true then I think Demon's souls got something with this like sony gave atlus the game to publish it in the west as a way to to pay for atlus to make Persona 5 PS3 exclusive.
What a horrible and unlikely trade.

Sony is the one who completely funded this game and the asian version of the game is completely english so Atlus wont even bother modifying anything in the game they just need to publish it in the west and every unit sold will be pure profit for them why do you think Sony didnt publish it in the west if its already got english voices and everything is translated, And I didnt say its a trade its just a part of the payment well thats just my guess.

I totally agree.
Suikoden is first, then the Digital Devil Saga, which persists of Persona, Devil Summoner etc.. Final Fantasy doesn't even come close to these 2 JRPG franchises IMO.

Despite the fact that Wii has a large install base, it seems niche games don't sell very well on it at all. Look at the sales of some of the recent more interesting but quirky games. They've been pretty poor.

Its rather simple, Demon Souls audience and buyers were set in stone since it stated getting exposure in the west. Why would Sony waste the coin publishing it when they will only sell so many units? I see why they let Atlus have it but Persona 5 will be Atlus' big game and Demon souls is hardly a worthy exchange for it. (and you posed the question as a trade regardless of whether or not you meant that) Really I could see it as a favour but not as any sort of payment, not with how Atlus is run with all the minimal copies printed and small and multiple budgeted games.

Persona is fairly popular, it gained exposure with 3. Anyway, niche games always sell poorly, they're niche for that exact reason :| Its not niche gaming if half a million other people are enjoying the game.

I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer Persona 5 on the PS3, but I would honestly take it for any system/handheld. I love the Persona series, so I'll take it anyway I can get it.

No way, I really want one on the PS3. High def graphics would make the already beautiful PS2 games look infinitely better. I'm getting kinda tired of the PS2 graphics.
