Heck you wanna know about broken promises, Try owning a system for ONLY ONE YEAR before they call it quits and abondon you, thats broken promises. Sony not delivering in the online capabilities game developers didnt wanna support last gen. is nothing. How many games actually took full advantage of online capabilities, last gen. Very few, most games focused on single player mode which I appreciate.
This gen. things are flip flopping and devs are paying close attention to multiplayer, maybe too much abondoning a good single player story mode. I am sorry but Peter needs to stop crying about Killzone 2, it looks amazing maybe not exactly like the CGI but extremely close according to the media who have hands on experience.
The only system that truly UNDERDELIVERED last gen. and BROKE PROMISES was the Dreamcast.

The dreamcast delivered everything it was supposed to. And how can you possibly say going bankrupt = abandoning gamers? What else where they going to do?
The simple fact was that they lost a lot of money on failures like the SEGA CD, and sold the Dreamcast at a loss. They needed to get as much money as possible through game sales, but made the mistake of not including any copy protection, and as such piracy was as easy as sticking a disc in your computer and copying the files.
Their final mistake was spending $70million on Shenmue, only to have the sales be terrible, again due to piracy.
he forgot to metion that not one game ever used the motion egeine not one ecept god of war.
we all now how that looked for a ps 2 game.
it is not sony falt that the dev's did not want to use the engine. this is why sony is making sure they use the cell this time around.
I could see how that would have been very frustrating for him. Here they are, trying to actually launch system and show real games, and Sony is out there spreading all kinds of FUD and showing pre-rendered CGI videos. The fallout from that stuff continues into today.
But to be entirely fair, Guerilla's done a pretty bang-up job in terms of delivering the real that game has the same feel as that original trailer. Dunno if the actual game will be good, but it looks very impressive so far.
Teufelhuhn
I agree with this. Sony has exaggerated things to try and hurt the compeition but the one example of Kill Zone 2 isn't really one of them anymore. So far they have delivered almost nearly what they promised. No one expect the exact CGI graphics but then again no one expected Guerilla to hit so close to he target render. We won't really know unitl the game comes out next year but everything I've seen and read shows they didn't lie too much with that target render.
[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"][QUOTE="MonkeyStyle5389"]And now Killzone 2 gameplay looks shockingly similar to the video. :lol:skektek
No, not really...
KZ'08 look better than the E3 target video, get over it.Nice try, but no. Try watching the 05 trailer in HD, and then go watch a gameplay video in HD. Theres a big difference.

At least Sony is actually bringing Killzone 2... I thought that was a moot point. But yeah, all the stuff about the PS2 was valid. Good grief, I'm glad I wasnt that in touch with the gaming world to get excited over that stuff when I was a kid.

I think the Killzone 2 screens do look pretty dang close to the KZ2 2005 footage... but seriously I think the game would have done better without trying to be a graphics king.
I think Guerilla really worries about making the game match the 2005 target render and that's why they've delayed it so much. Can you imagine having to worry about that, when all you're trying to do is make a good game?

I think the visuals are great, but not 2005 target trailer great.
Btw, thanks for the heads up, Teufelhuhn.

i think its about sony forcing GG to live up to sony's own ego, im sure GG didnt want to spend this much time and money on making ONE game, but sony handed them (basically) a blank check just so sony as a company can say "see told you this is how its going to look, we're not liars" but yea i think GG is working hard on rectifying SONYS mistaken arogance

GARRYTH
What do you mean, didnt use the engine? :? It wasnt even an "engine" at all, "Emotion Engine" was just a fancy name they gave to the PS2's hardware, just like the "Cell". Every developer who ever released a game on the PS2 used the emotion engine.

Nice post dude.I completely agree with you.Why would people even listen to a person working for Microsoft bashing sony ? Thats stupid enough already.
I really wish people would stop using that image comparison as a basis to form any opinion off. It's from talkplaystation.com, and is the most biased and doctored thing i've seen in ages. They took the worst shots from the CGI trailer, compressed to as low as resolution as they possibly could, and then set them up against normal shots from the gameplay trailer.
Simply put, the game does not look like this:
Nor does it look like this:
And those are official Sony screens, not doctored low-res screen caps from a fanboy.
And now Killzone 2 gameplay looks shockingly similar to the video. :lol:MonkeyStyle5389
Hhhmmm.. no it doesn't. It still doesn't look at good as the video they showed for the PS2 Killzone. That's what so funny about Killzone and all that phony PR hype. lol!! Sony bit off more then they could chew. Maybe the PS4 will have actually game play that looks that good.

Dude are you kidding me ? The E3 05 footage is completely empty...There arent any proper details.Like everything is gray and dull. The E3 08 footage which i have heard is still yet to be polished is looking GREAT ! I mean the details are exciting...etc...Check out the colours dude !

while i cant disagree, the media seems to think otherwise

How on earth is the E305 footage empty? Go watch the video. The buildings are all greek in design and have an amazing amount of detail to them, as does the ground and floor textures. All of that has been replaced with grey panels and boxes for the game's structures.
Honestly, i cannot believe people are saying the game, in its current form, looks better than the original trailer. It just doesnt. I have no idea how the game will turn out; it could be the best game ever made, and if is, fantastic. But come on, let's get a grip on reality here.
Question is, does KZ2 NEED to look as good as the teaser trailer??? and why is there an issue with a game taking 3 years to make??? POJO_MOFO
All Sony PS3 games seem to take 3 years to make.
No, Killzone 2 doesn't need to look like the CGI Trailer from the E3, but it doesn't need to play incredibly well, with awesome environments, excellent animation and great online modes. I'm getting Resistance 2 first, but I'm interested and seeing how Killzone 2 turns out. Hopefully it'll be worth a purchase.

Yeah, those screens were pretty messed up, lol
Here's the Gameplay footage vs. 2005 Trailer that is pretty valid. I would actually have to say the gameplay looks better than the targer render. The targert render intro movies looks better with more colors, but I think the actual gameplay footage looks better with more colors.

 Thank you for responding, because I was simply too amazed with that quote to even give it a proper response. The E3 '05 trailer has better textures, stuff going on all around, a Helghast grabbing onto a ledge or rail (can't remember), so that he doesn't fall. It's much more impressive in just about every single way. All of a sudden the game is Okami in 2008, really?

Oh yeah, I agree about the more action going on. I posted the link of the comparison video.

It does have more going on that will never make it into the game, but other than that I was kind of surprised to notice that for the most part, the gameplay footage actually sported more "color". So instead of just grey, it was grey and charcoal grey...

Exactly what you described was ALOT of poor planning done by SEGA which eventually left the owners stuck with a console that would not be supported. The mistakes with SEGA CD, 32X, and SEGA Saturn were already well known to SEGA and instead of going all out with the Dreamcast or saying, you know what, lets stop at the Saturn and focus on software, they decided to continue on to the next gen. poorly prepared. Do I have sympathy for a company going bankrupt, no, not this one, one with resources to analyze the chances they had at success. Piracy was known before they got in and underestimated how bad it would be, they could have easily included piracy protection but chose not to. And as for Shenmue, they are not the only company to spend alot of money on a flop.
The truth is SEGA went into that Gen. unprepared and with very few resources to whether the storm. They gave it a shot with the unrealistic expectation that NOTHING would go wrong because they had no money for a plan B, and of course their many mistakes hurt them and they jumped ship early in the gen. leaving gamers with a useless console they convinced many people to spend a decent penny on at the time.
The Dreamcast delivered less then two years of gaming, I wouldnt say thats "everything it was supposed to".
You keep saying "jumped ship" however like they had a choice in the matter. Did they screw up? Yes. But they went bankrupt. They didnt want to pull out of the industry at all, they didnt have a choice.
You could argue that Sega made a series of fundamental errors with the dreamcast, sure, but i dont think it's fair to say they abandoned gamers.

They led gamers to believe they were prepared for gaming for at least 5 years by releasing a console like the majority of consoles have done yet the truth which nobody knew at the time was that they needed BIG success to survive and of course they underperformed and left gamers with a useless console.
They made a poor buisness decision to jump into the gaming industry with such poor planning and no back up plan which led to alot of dissappointed gamers. The truth is it was unrealistic for SEGA to have survived that gen. yet they fooled everyone into thinking they were ready and they werent.
