While Japanese games tend to be very niche I think it's great that Phil is looking to diversify the platform. Japanese developers make some quality games, so it'd be great to see them on the most powerful console.
What do people want to see Phil Spencer bring to Xbox?
ROFL...this guy lives in an alternate reality. I wonder if MS has exclusives in that reality? Scorpio is not going to be native 4K btw.
Omg this again... some games will be (especially 1st party).
As for more Japanese games on Xbox, I personally don't really care since I'm not in to those type of games... but it would be nice to broaden the portfolio a bit.
You're a little off the map in terms of what's going on here, just a wee bit... He's probably going around trying to build relationships, give developers/publishers reasons to work with them. The biggest issue Xbox has with the Japanese market is not the Japanese game market itself, it's the lack of continued Japanese support on the platform. If Xbox had a continued stream of Japanese games similar to PlayStation it would become normalized and the games would sell. The reason Japanese games don't do that well on Xbox is because they are so sparsely released that people which are a fan of these games do not buy the platform as it's not currently viable for it, PlayStation is much more viable.
If he can get a bevy of releases in the works and keeps focusing on it, he could greatly open the scope of the system to other demographics.

Nioh at 4k 60 fps on Scorpio
Nier Automata 4k 60 fps
Ninja Gaiden 4 Xbox exclusive
Talk to Platinum games
Mistwalker Xbox exclusive
Sci-fi souls game from From Software
FF7 Remake
Ni no Kuni 2
Persona 5
Might as well have them on Xbox. The PS has no games.

Well you just proved my comment true. MS has no first party HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Its a game by game thing. I don't care if Xbox doesn't get Tales of Ballbagia and shit like that, but some great action games? Of course, who wouldn't? LMAO at the pussies rooting for the Japanese to treat him unkind for PD. Sure, like 3 1/2 years wasn't long enough to have your fukin game engine working. Weab pole smokers, dude.

Well that's one opinion. Doesn't coincide with the latest from Platinum on why no Nier for Xbox. They say it is very much about Japanese market for Xbox not being strong.

What does the localized Japanese market have anything to do with the rest of the world where the bulk of sales come from? Just because a system is not doing well there has no bearing on how software would do outside of their bubble, that's a pretty terrible scapegoat rationalization.

Preaching to the choir, dude. That's my argument. I discussed it with someone yesterday. I say it has something to do with Platinum being butt hurt about MS telling them fuk off for not having at the very least, a smooth running game engine for Scalebound after 3 1/2 years. But also, the fierce loyalty of the Japanese to their own. Another user posted an article from the Japan Times talking about the bigotry against not just foreigners, but Japanese that don't look Japanese. Hard road for an American to penetrate these days.
It wont ever happen because its a dead platform in Japan. They tried extremely hard in the beginning of the 360 generation funding several exclusive JRPGS. The fact is it never caught on.
You may see games go multiplat but you wont see any major Japanese titles stay exclusive as the PS4 version is going to make up the vast majority of sales.

They're a 'racist' culture if that makes any sense, they're extremely nationalistic and damn all else to look out for themselves even when they're in the wrong or being illogical. Their 14th century ideology still holds true to this day, in the back of their minds still lives the kamikaze and seppuku way of life, they're not backwards as a society but they're overtly harsh to differences.
Very ignorant thing to say seeing as how Apple products sell really well in Japan and both COD and GTA has enjoyed success. As well as other Western games. Xbox just sucks and Japan sees it.
There is Sony/Nintendo also who don't seem to mind selling or making things for non Japanese in the same darn industry.
I'm not saying they're wrong. I just don't see anything that concretely backs up this assertion that Japanese devs avoid Xbox because of some kind of racism on their part.

Why does he need to go to japan can't he use his cell phone and make some deals through phone?
Were living in a global economy he doesn't need to physically be in japan for them to build games for their system just give them a dev kit and pay some cash for publishing.

Its such a cop out response and completely contradicts their statement and goals mentioned in this interview:
"We have to think a lot about what resonates with consumers globally and find that secret sauce and make sure that goes into our games," he says. "And there's a lot of places we need to look for that: it's not just in art, it's also in game design, it's also in music ... I think the one thing that we want more than anything in the immediate future — and it's something we continue to work hard on — is we definitely want people to understand that we're making games here in Japan, but we're making games for everybody."

@spitfire-six: LOL that was before they couldn't meet deadlines or get their Scalebound game engine running smoothly 3 1/2 years into dev time. If I took that long on fitting an HVAC unit and duct work into a building after agreeing on terms, I'd get fired also.
The thing I don't understand about your argument as we have gone around about this already is why you believe they are only this way to Xbox owners when it comes to games.
Non Japanese own PlayStation's and nintendos as well. I mean they don't mind making games on and selling games to those non Japanese people around the globe. PC as well.

As someone just reminded me that this is completely on Square japans shoulders not Platinum. So all spite should be forwarded to Square Japan. My gut tells me, that Square didnt want to pay for more dev time, to get the game running on Xbox. UWP pipeline needs to hurry up.

What does this have to do with Japanese people not buying the crappy Xbox? Why would they? I am sure they use MS Office and probably buy Surface Tablets though.
Seems like a very trivial battle to pursue, as the Xbox 360 attempted to garner support from the Japanese market - with all of its niche games, shootemups, jrpgs, etc -- and it was hardly a decent seller in Japan.
R9-290X (5.6TFLOPS) runs Killer Instinct at 4k at 55 fps average while XBO version runs at 1600x900p at 60 fps for Killer Instinct Second Season. R9-290X's effectiveness is more than 4X over XBO i.e. 5.46X effective.
Both FLOPS and memory bandwidth impacts render's frame time.
Memory write bandwidth is dependant on FLOPS's result being available. Higher memory write bandwidth without calculated results is useless. This is the processing order.
If PS4 was running Killer Instinct, it would have run it at 1920x1080 near 60 fps average i.e. look at 7850's results.
When higher TFLOPS + higher memory bandwidth combines, R9-290X (5.6 TFLOPS) is 3.5X effective over 7850 (1.76 TFLOPS).
5.6 TFLOPS R9-290X delivered 4K at 31.7 fps while XBO has 1600x900/30 fps. R9-290X is 5.76X effective over XBO.

Yeah, sounds about right. Japanese games are 1 advantage Sony is always going to have... nothing Xbox does will change that (except a few games here and there).
I don't even think that's all of them. I really wish the did a Blue Dragon 2 and Lost Odyssey 2. Microsoft needs to get a lot more then FF XV and Kingdom Hearts 3.
? Picture of Phil found in Japan begging for games....
They didn't beg last gen. Why would they start now? Probaby going to find a dev to finish that Scalebound game. They need Mystwalker to do a Blue Dragon sequel.
