If I had to guess... I'd say someone was either doing renovations to the house or sanding down the walls of the room it was in... and they forgot to cover it up with a sheet.

Well if there would be more AAA games the PS3 wouldn't gather dust.

Where is the pics of the PS3, I only see dust and dirt?

When I first heard this story I was sideing with the guy, but seeing those pics, Sony is in the right for saying the warranty is void, Even without touching the PS3 for a year the amount of dust and dirt shouldn't be that bad. I feel that I need to take a shower just looking at it.

Sony should of just showed the pictures in the first place and that would of stopped this story before it got so big.

How can a PS3 clean your house? Don't be stupid. You're better than that.

If you bought a 360 Elite and a PS3 and let it sit on your shelve, the PS3 would collect more dust for some reason. Go try it. There's just something about the PS3 exterior that attracts dust more than other consoles.

He said the ps3 is literally collecting dust...so he may want to sit it in his home so it will attract all the dust.Get it?:P

sony has a right to reject that. chances are, it's broken because it's too dirty. not sony's fault.

Did everyone see this comment a guy left on IGN. It had me cracking up for a good 10 minutes.

"The plane that was carrying this thing crashed in a junkyard for 3 days, was found by a Hobo, buried, dug up, and was catapulted through a sandstorm to the Sony HQ. Now THATS an excuse."

lol:

"Today, Sony finally agreed to release pictures of the dusty PS3 to validate its claims that the amount of dust on and in the console posed a health threat to the repair technician."

tut tut. typical sony and their poor customer servi.....ohh.

what the hell happened to it? ive never seen a console that dusty....ever. hell the inside of my old PC wasnt that bad. if its that bad on the outside, the fans on the inside must be veey gunked up. was the owener playing it while it was in a bucket of ash or something?

good on sony for even considering fixing it under warranty. that PS3 has clearly been badly treated.

Sony can be a pain with their warranties though. They don't consider burned out pixels to justify fixing lcd screens....unless theres 5 or more pixels in a string or clump.

Well that is filthy, and the black case only makes the dust even more apparent. Still I kinda feel the "health risk" comment was unnecessary from Sony especially if they were even half serious. If the problem was caused by the dust they should had just voided the warranty because the console was handled improperly, and if not they should had just fixed it and sent back as dirty as it was.

haha i laugh at people who actually think this is from a ps3 collecting dust. This guy must keep it outside of his house in the desert. Sully28

Yeah...and with the memory card compartment wide open. That photo is clearly BS. It looks like he intentionally shot dirt AT the machine. If his PS3 is that unbelievably dirty, then what does the rest of his house look like? Does he NEVER clean? That's just gross.

How would he explain all the dirt inside the memory card and USB slots? There is no logical or realistic reason for that and it would be difficult to properly clean.

That PS3 looks like it went to Iraq and back.

I've had mine since January, sitting idle most of the time, and it still looks super clean in comparison to that one.

Actually there is a good explanation. The fans inside suck air in through any place that air passes through. The USB ports being one of them. I get a little dust in mine too. Nothing a quick shot with a vacuum doesn't fix though.

I dont get how you can get that dusty unless you thorw it into a sand box.ni6htmare01

That looks like exactly what he did. Who would buy a $600 console then let it get that much dust on it?
