A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there were these two games called Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark that defined FPS on consoles. You should look into it.
Guess what buddy, we're no longer living in a 'long time ago' and I've played Goldeneye on the N64.I didn't think the GameCube controller was that bad when it comes to shooters. My time with stuff like TimeSplitters 2 and Star Fox Assault (on-foot) was alright. If there was any genre that had it worse, it was traditional fighters (like Bloody Roar, Soul Calibur II, or Dragon Ball Z: Budokai) as it can get confusing with the button layout, but even then it still wasn't that bad because you can get used to it. I thought Soul Calibur II played perfectly with the GC controller. The button placement made it so much easier to pull off moves that required pressing two buttons at the same time.[QUOTE="D1zzyCriminal"]
The Gamecube controler was fantastic, ergonomic and light. It was just terrible for shooters. Luckily the Gamecube had plenty of other games.
I hope the Wii U tablet is comfortable like the Gamecube pad and good for shooters, that will make it the ultimate joypad.

Good for you. *Waits to hear b!tching on how Metroid Prime is a FPA, not FPS*
[QUOTE="C_Rule"]Soo... Includes nothing but posting shooters released on Gamecube and Wii? Haha wow, please make it stop.RavensmashSo, I'm tryna guess your angle here.... You're against Nintendo ever having any 'hardcore' shooters (despite being shown that the shooter genre has had plenty of life on their systems), but also don't want them to have any in the future? Dude, I respect that you may not like the genre - but please respect the wishes of others, we can all share. why bother?
Haha nice. Gaming journalism is the worst. It's basically a blog industry. Ya gotta sort through the BS to find the real "news".The full quote "Wow, this is the best controller I?ve ever had from Nintendo for a hardcore first-person shooter,"
You a journalist?
I'll probably disagree. The Wii Mote is the best thing outside a mouse.
AmayaPapaya
EDIT: But holy crap do I disagree about the Wii Mote being the best for a shooter besides a mouse.

have you tried out the new Wii-U controller, or will you continue to be a closed minded individual?Agreed. I really loved the GC controller. Fit in your hand perfectly. Just incredibly bad for shooters. And pretty awkward for sports games as well. Well, awkward for most things that weren't 1st party games, honestly. Still loved it though and how it fit.The Gamecube controler was fantastic, ergonomic and light. It was just terrible for shooters. Luckily the Gamecube had plenty of other games.

from a nintendo system... U forgot to add that part... And thats not saying much considering the joke of controllers nintendo has released in the past. At least they have made an effort with this controller FINALLY. Dual analog sticks are industry standard because they are pretty much perfect for consoles so ofcourse he would say this now.campzor
GC was dual analog.

what defined FPS on consoles was Halo.
gamecubepad
Wrong. Halo defined the Xbox. FPS was limited to crusty ports of Doom before Nintendo came around with the analog stick and trigger. Most kiddies probably wouldn't know this, but N64 was the first-person shooter console. Goldeneye 64 was a social phenomenom and sold around 8 million copies.
Hell, I remember playing Quake III on DC online, even cross-platform. Only Xbots think Halo defined anything.
goldeneye was clunky when it came to aiming and i mean clunky when you compare it to halo and the fact it was the first to bring the viable dual stick setup and a system more akin to what we seen on PC combining the use of twoo analogue sticks sure its a build upon the formula but honestly it was a bigger leap than goldeneye.
Not to mention halo 2 pretty much set the standard on how console online shooting games shoud be done.
Halo will be remmebered because it was a bigger phenomenon than both, and revolutionised a pretty niche thing (online) at the time into a social phenomenon.Credit where credits due halo probably has done a lot more than goldeneye which in this day and age is a relic but its a pretty bad playing relic.
If the Wii U controller had clickable circle pads (or clickable analgue sticks if the rumoured changes are true) and one set of the triggers was analogue then it would be thee best dual analogue controller for fps games bar none, on any platform, ever.
Without those it's still a great dual analogue controller for fps games but developers might need to map a couple of functions to the touch screen if they want to port their games to the system.
In terms of being the best controller for fps games outright, exluding PC, then the Wiimote takes that crown easily. The pointer funtionality made it as close to a mouse as any gaming controller has ever been and the analogue stick meant movment was superior to a keyboard, so all in all it was the best all-round solution for fps games imo.
Normal pads however...the Wii U controller still has the potential to be the absolute best of the best, if Nintendo listens to feedback and makes a couple of tiny little tweaks to the aforementioned areas.

Epic was doing both dual-analog and console online before bungie. Halo is a great series, but it didn't define anything.
So, solid online console FPS was done years before Halo 2, and dual-analog on consoles was done before Halo.

Why would you want analog triggers for a shooter? You want digital for shooters since its fire or don't fire. There's no inbetween.
